@VD15 It's really weird because they announced the absolute minimum for the last direct. Then it seemed like they were holding out. It would make sense, launch would sell out anyways, as it always does (Even Wii U was hard to find at some point IIRC) and then they'll get Bananza out of the way and start announcing stuff. There's even a rumours that a lot of 3rd parties are holding on announcing stuff, which seems true. There was a massive lack of Switch 2 announcement at the Not E3 this year
Anyways, I predicted the expansion for some of these games. Hell, they're probably gonna be easy to make because of the Switch 2 power compared to Switch, to fill the schedule... But still, right now the schedule is filled with expansion and Switch 2 editions of Switch 1 games. Great, but not too exciting for a new console. We also don't have a completely clear release schedule until the holiday IIRC
Anyways, I get that Nintendo now wants to do the 3 months reveal to release, but that's not generally super great for a new console, we need some level of promises, of big games to come. While you could argue Bananza is Switch 2's BOTW (It's absolute peak), there's still some level of wow factor missing from stuff announced right now, and a launch is probably one of the best time to announce something even if it's a tad further away

Yeah, I'm not sure what the strategy is, maybe they just really wanted to sell people on the switch 2 as a device before announcing a bunch of games. They probably knew that people would buy it considering how long they'd been asking for it (even people who said they weren't going to buy it bought one). Which is why I think they were really ballsy with charging for the welcome tour and switch 2 upgrades.
My best guess is that they wanted to split buyers into two waves, first was the 30-year-olds with disposable income who care about the hardware, the next is the kids who care more about the games asking their parents for a christmas present. That way they can ensure everyone gets one and there's hopefully no shortages.
I mentioned this before launch, but I agree that the console is missing wow factor: there's no system seller that everyone's raving about. Maybe that'll be announced now, but it's why I haven't seen fit to buy one yet. Between mario kart and donkey kong, I'm maybe 25% of the way towards buying a switch 2. A new xeno game would bump that up to 125%, but we literally got one in March, so I think we'll still be waiting at least a year until monolith announce anything. Or maybe we'll have another project X situation where they'll announce early and keep us waiting a few years (Just please don't rush anything out again to meet a December deadline, I'm begging you).
@VD15 I mean if you are waiting might as well wait for the eventual monolith soft game switch 2 edition console that could be the refresh of the switch 2. Why buy the console now and deal with all the console teething issues.
but man if nintendo just runs home with this on selling product to normies it's just gonna be a real joke across the board. Raising the cost of the subscriptions, making switch 1 games cost more absolute cinema. Only hsving like 10% product sales. The death of the nintendo voucher.
@Spooke I mean, like I said, I'm waiting and seeing. I'm not really being strategic about my purchase, there's just not enough I want to play yet. If there's something I want to play badly enough, or enough things I sorta want to play, I'll get it.
I'm not necessarily opposed to the price hike on games, either. I understand why it's happening, but I do feel like nintendo is nickel-and-diming people with all the add-ons that should really be standard. Especially when the console already costs $500.
I would love it if they released a special edition console for xenoblade, though. Like they gave pokemon four switch 1 editions but xeno fans only get what? one pro controller? It really sucks, because so many of the fan-made mods or knockoffs I see look great. An official one would be gorgeous.
