I finished my sewing apron! It's pretty shoddily made from a discarded tablecloth, but I think the concept is brilliant. I feel like I spend 90% of my sewing time looking for misplaced tools. I made this so my seam ripper, measuring tape, chalk pencils and fabric shears have designated pockets on my body. There's also a pocket for my phone, to balance the weight of the fabric shears. 1/ #sewing
I still need to train myself to actually put my tools back in the pockets after using them. If this proves difficult, I intend to tie everything to the apron with elastic string until I learn. I may also add a ruffle to the bottom hem, or more pockets as needed.
I bounce between hobbies a lot, and I often want to sew, but don't want to spend the upfront energy cost of finding and setting everything up. This should hopefully make it easier to get into sewing mode. 🪡🧵 2/2

Actually yes. But they can be hard to find. Lots of places will take volunteers to help with grunt work on various projects. Sifting dirt for tiny bits of pottery and old buttons, carrying gear out to the middle of nowhere to count frogs. Look to your local museums and universities.
When I lived in Japan the first time, I taught English in the junior high schools (中学校), but my employer was the local board of ed. One year the municipal museum needed volunteers to look for bits of pottery in a certain area, so all the employees of the board of ed. were volunteered. I found less than almost everyone else. Not sure why.
As I recall, we didn't find any Yayoi pottery bits, but lots from later eras.
When I was a kid in the western US, other kids I knew found arrowheads. I never found any.
