"Grinding" doesn't work when employers refuse to let you work enough hours to get health benefits, or when you get instantly replaced with a random illegal the instant you ask for a raise. Fast-food chains outside of Chick-Fil-A would rather hire stoners at minimum wage than pay slightly more for competent employees, and basically every other industry more or less adopts the same ethos, even in cases where paying a little extra for quality is worth it in the long run. Boomers love caping for the insane status quo and deflecting blame onto later generations than acknowledge any kind of shortcomings in their own. The handful of Boomers who don't do this are invariably not the kind who caused the problem to begin with.

See, I've seen this happen. She was at the grocery store, standing at the ice cream freezer just staring for a solid 15 minutes. And some guy just wanted to get his Bryers Reeses and get home because it was late. So he squeezed into that little air gap between her and the freezer and reached in to grab the gallon and go. That switched her ice cream fantasy into about him. Another 15 minutes later, she ran out to the car. That's when she realized her life is shit and made this video.

*Simplicity* is set in the not-so-distant future, in which the US has dissolved and its major centers have been refashioned as "Administrative and Security Territories" - a fancy way of saying "walled corporate autocracies." Lucius Pasternak is an anthropology grad student in the NYC AST, a trans-man getting by as best as he can, minimizing how much he sells out, which is not enough to make his bosses treat him with respect, but is more than his friends can stomach.
Pasternak's fortunes improve when he gets a big, juicy assignment: to embed with a Catskills community of weirdo sex-hippies who supply the most coveted organic produce in the NYC AST. They've been cloistered in an old summer camp since the 1970s, and when civilization collapsed, it barely touched them. Pasternak's mission is to chronicle the community and its strange ways for a billionaire's vanity-project museum of New York State.
The meat of the action is set in Simplicity, the Catskills home of the Spiritual Association of Peers, where Pasternak struggles to gain the support and trust of the community, working their gardens by day and, eventually, attending their orgy/free-for-all nightly rituals, where the community members work out their tension and aggression through a mix of wild sex and punch-ups.
But no matter how diligently Pasternak tries to fit in, he still finds himself at the community's margins, unable to win over their trust. Then, just as he starts to make some progress, members of the community start going missing, turning up horribly mutilated. The horror of this is compounded by the erotic, nightmarish visions that have haunted Pasternak since his arrival in Simplicity, of a many-tentacled, many-mawed, many-vulvaed monster.
Pasternak's bosses abruptly recall him to the NYC AST, and that's when he learns the *true* nature of his mission to Simplicity, and the story moves into a thrilling, action-packed final act with an *extremely* satisfying conclusion.
This is such a tight little tale, speedily told in that way of the best graphic novels, which cram so much expressivity and atmosphere into the visual storytelling.
This is post-cyberpunk, ecosexual revolutionary storytelling at its finest. I know Lubchansky mostly from her absolutely amazing podcast, *No Gods, No Mayors* (co-hosted with Trashfuture's November Kelly and Riley Quinn), where she is incredibly charming, funny, and incisive:

The Palestinians of Gaza have nothing. They are completely reliant on international aid in order to survive. They are literally some of the poorest people on the planet, and Israel has systematically destroyed their ability to produce their own necessities for themselves.
The Western coalition destroying Gaza has everything. They have high tech weapons, most of the worlds wealth, and leadership positions in the UN. And they have all of the political power associated with that.
This contrast is no accident. It is a mere microcosm of a fundamental feature of the capitalist world-system itself.

#BackToTheDawn ended up actually being quite a disappointment. I have a feeling I got the Bad Ending™, because even though I don't know if there even are alternate endings, it sure seemed so. If that is the case, though, I don't actually know what I was supposed to do in order to get a good ending. And while I guess it's implied, they don't tell you that the game actually does only last until election day; after that, it's over, no matter what you have left that you wanted to do. If I knew that...well, to be honest, I might not have picked up the game, because I really hate games that put you on a timer.
