Finally got Matrix working again and learned a whole lot more about how Nginx works. God bless people who actually post their solutions in issues they start.
Now time for my notifications to absolutely explode. Everyone asking "where's Friendica" but no one asking "where's Ferret" ... ☹

I suppose you must have put thought into it, but as a recent friend who is unaware of the history of why you chose matrix, the question "why matrix?" popped into my head.
To me, the matrix+element family's explicit enthusiastic participation as a cog in the imperial machine is rage-inducing, and does not inspire confidence that they will remain even neutral, let alone friendly, to any anti-imperial groups.
Add to that the shitty nature of their code, and fundamentally broken design—all of them together sealed the deal for me and my friends.
We had our matrix.org accounts, had used Element for a while and then given up, but still had the accounts and the app on our devices for many years; all of us deactivated our accounts on July 31, and uninstalled Element from all our devices.
Not judging your choice, just sharing thoughts...

Like, do you not use Tor and wave your finger at anyone who does because it was created and funded by US intelligence?

My comment about matrix being a willing and enthusiastic cog in the imperial machine had nothing to do with Matrix's origins within Amdocs.
A bit tied up, will elaborate in a day or two.

Check out this post for a documentation of Matrix's willing and enthusiastic participation as a cog in the imperial machine.
For discussion, better reply under that post.
