This highlights how God often uses us as channels of His grace. Though He can act directly, He typically chooses to work through others.
Picture yourself as one of the disciples. You're hungry, and Jesus gives you bread--but instructs you to give it away. You might be tempted to eat it first. Similarly, when God blesses us, we often think we must care for ourselves before we can help others. But if the disciples had eaten first, the miracle wouldn't have unfolded as it did. Because they gave before receiving, they ended up with more than enough.
The same principle applies to spiritual gifts. When God gives us peace, joy, or insight, it's not meant to be hoarded. Grace is always given to be shared. And when we give it away, it multiplies. If you receive a spiritual insight, it's meant to be shared. If God gives you consolation or peace, offer it to someone in need. This is the pattern of divine generosity.
Reflect today on this miraculous feeding. See the bread as a symbol of every grace you've received. What has God given you that He wants you to share? Have you held onto certain gifts for yourself? True grace grows when given away. If you trust in this truth and give freely, you too will find yourself holding an overflowing basket.
