I often see establishment Democrats claim that other Dems refusing to vote for Harris were out to punish her. It was not primarily about punishment. Millions of Dem voters decided that, as terrible as Trump is, it would be disastrous if a Democrat like Harris was elected, further normalizing actions such as genocide & Biden's attacks on civil liberties & public health. At least when Trump does the same as Biden & Harris, his actions are seen as an aberration to norms which must be stopped.

There may be some real world stories where an all white cast makes sense (depending on place, time, & subject matter), but if you're in a fantastical world where the limit is your imagination, and you don't imagine people of color in it...that tells me that *at best* you have a very narrow & weak imagination (or maybe you are just a bigot).
Once you get used to seeing diversity, it's just fucking *boring* to go back from that. It really is. I'm not virtue signaling, because I don't think it's a virtue to prefer stories to contain people of various races, ethnicities, backgrounds, genders, abilities, etc.
That's not some fucking noble, enlightened stance: diversity adds more flavor to stories. It adds different tensions & perspectives.
Sure, I believe in diversity on principle, but I also just don't want to be fucking bored.

I was just posting in another thread about how right-wing culture is based on might makes right. No absolute (if that's even remotely the right word) ideas of good or bad, morality defined entirely by power and punishment.
In that world, anything new or strange operates by rules you don't understand-- so you have no clue what you might get punished for. There is no sense of trust, that there might be some idea of goodness in the universe that other beings are likely to believe or recognize. So of course they're afraid!
It gets me thinking about a lot of the old mythologies, gods made of nothing but power and caprice. Their will is incomprehensible, yanking mere mortals around on sheer whim-- the only lessons, at bottom, seem to be about how you can't ever REALLY understand the intentions or logic of things bigger than you and all you can really do at the end of the day is try to eke out what power you can for yourself while trying not to piss off anyone who's big enough to squash you. That's it.
Me, I grew up with this deep belief that any deeply intelligent entity who understands shit in a big way will come to understand that it only makes sense to be cool. So there's gotta be some underlying pattern of goodness out there, beings wanting to do interesting stuff with other beings in positive ways that don't cause suffering if it can be helped. So I want to hurry and get out there and meet them. I always figured it was only logical that destructive, sadistic cultures would tend to spiral out and so whatever transcends time and space has gotta be essentially good-- although it's pretty clear right now our corner of the universe is running in a truly fucked up way, and I'm willing to believe MAYBE whatever higher power is in charge has a way to make up for that in the long run (in the meantime I'm seriously pissed off and if I meet anyone driving this I'm gonna give em a piece of my mind but if they're actually cool they'll be like hey I get it, and if they're not cool I'm going to spit in their eye on my way down) but I still have that Star Trek ideal in my soul.
But yeah. People defined by fear don't like to use imagination. Crawl back into the bliss of ignorance, regret taking the fruit of knowledge from that tree, cringe and lick the boots you must while kicking anyone you can get away with kicking because that's as good as things ever get... Ugh. What a way to live. How does love make its way into a heart that was intentionally broken that way from infancy? It does happen, thank heavens, but wow.
There are a lot of TV shows that remind me of old myths; soap operas I just can't get into, because it seems like ALL of the characters are basically bad human beings. Whole shows that revolve around nothing but people trying to screw each other over. There might be happy bursts of falling in love or whatever but sooner or later they all betray each other. Power games. Head games. Revenge.
Example, I had a really tough time finishing Breaking Bad, despite the truly excellent writing and acting, because there was almost nobody left that I could relate to whatsoever after the main character went too far off the ethical rails.
Some people seem to really just love watching assholes be assholes to each other-- I mean, see practically the entire Reality TV catalogue... I don't get it.
Then sometimes there's shows where you get ONE or two genuinely good guys, where it's clear the writers actually understand the concept of conscience to some degree, but sometimes it's just an empty caricature and too often it's a Ned Stark thing where they're there basically to show how trying to do the right thing is just never sustainable or realistic or some crap. Or it's just pollyanna fluffy cartoon crap, goodness that's all fantasy sparkle no spine or substance.
It's rare to see stories that really dig in to what it means to strive to be truly good, in a satisfying way.
Having just recently been diagnosed with autism and reading around, I'm scratching my head seeing some folks saying that a fixation on, like, basic decency may actually be an autism thing? And honestly that's spooking me a bit because if having a moral compass isn't neurotypical... erm, we're in trouble. I guess it would explain a lot but GAH you guys.

I think that's a really interesting perspective, and I agree; I'm just kind of done with the stories about how the worst, most morally-bankrupt people deal with power. That's just exactly the same as what I see in real life everyday. It's time for more stories that imagine something different: the world and people as they could be.
Also, as corporations are getting more interested in pacifying white supremacists, I just don't want to show up for anything that is all white. Not now. I don't want them to believe we won't notice if they cut out diversity to appeal to "all audiences".

TL;DR Met someone from the food charity that I speak from time to time and she tried to give her handicaped daughter (19yo) for me to take care of. I told her I couldn't, she invited and I invited her at my home to speak about it around a cup of coffee. It went well after that and she did not insist as she understood my situation was worse than hers. She also did not know the difference between a dictionary and an encyclopedia.

İnkârın Sol Yüzü: Kemalist Aklın Devrimcilik Kılığındaki Kürt Düşmanlığı – YAKUP EMRAH
Kemalizm, yalnızca devletin ideolojik aygıtlarına değil, aynı zamanda devletin dışında gelişen siyasal hareketlerin çoğuna da sirayet etmiş, sol siyaseti kurucu bir zemin olarak şekillendirmiştir. Türkiye solunun neredeyse bütün tarihsel biçimlenişi bu Kemalist zeminle ya doğrudan uzlaşmış ya da ona göre kendini konumlandırmıştır. Bu durum, Türkiye solunun en başta ulus-devlet paradigmasına içkin olduğunu, tarihsel olarak devletin üniter yapısına sadakat gösterdiğini ve en önemlisi Kürt meselesini bir “taktik mesele” olarak görmeye meyilli olduğunu göstermiştir.
Bu bağlamda 1971 devrimci kopuşuna atfedilen “anti-kapitalist”, “devrimci” ve “halkçı” kimlik, yapısal olarak Kemalist modernleşmenin ideolojik aparatlarından bağımsız değildir. 71 kopuşunun önder kadroları –her ne kadar sistemle çatışmış olsalar da– Türk ulusalcılığının sınırlarını aşamayan bir siyasal tahayyül içinde kalmışlardır. Kürt meselesi, bu kopuşun zihinsel haritasında ya hiç yer almamış ya da proletarya enternasyonalizmi adı altında askıya alınmıştır.
Oysa Kürt halkı için mesele, yalnızca sınıfsal sömürü meselesi değil; doğrudan varoluşsal bir sorundur. Kürtlerin inkârı, bir ekonomik eşitsizlik meselesinden çok daha derin, çok daha yapısal bir ideolojik imhadır. Kemalizmin laik-modernist söylemi, bu imhayı seküler bir maske altında gerçekleştirmiş; Şeyh Said’den Seyid Rıza’ya kadar Kürt önderliklerini “gerici” olarak kodlayarak imha etmiştir. Bu zihniyet, Türkiye solunun ana damarında da güçlü biçimde mevcuttur.
Örneğin; Deniz Gezmiş’in liderliğindeki Türkiye Halk Kurtuluş Ordusu (THKO) Ankara Sıkıyönetim Mahkemesine verdiği Savunma’da Şeyh Said ile ilgili şunları söylemişti: “Eski güçleri zayıftı, tek başlarına iktidara gelecek güçte olmadıkları için, yine tek kurtuluş yolunu dış destekte buldular. Ve zamanın Ortadoğu’daki hâkim devleti İngiltere ile gizli anlaşmaya başladılar. Birinci ve İkinci Meclisteki üyelerin yapıları ve Meclis zabıtları incelendiği zaman bu takımın faaliyetlerini görürüz. Hilafetin tekke ve zaviyelerin kapatılmasına açıkça karşı koymuşlar, 1925 Şeyh Sait isyanı ile şanslarını denemişler, 1926’da İzmir’de Atatürk’e suikast düzenlemişler, fakat başaramamışlar, 1930’larda serbest fırka etrafında birleşmişler, fakat sonradan faaliyetleri yasaklanmıştır. Uzun yıllar devam eden birinci dünya savaşının ve Kurtuluş Savaşımızın ganimetleri ile yüklü oldukları cephede çarpışan yurtseverlerin namusuna kadar el attıkları için rahat durmamakta ve her fırsatı kullanmaktadırlar.”
Bugün hâlâ Türkiye solunun büyük kısmı, Kürtlerin ulusal taleplerini tali bir mesele, hatta “emperyalizmin oyunu” olarak kodlamaya devam etmektedir. Sol adına yapılan bu yeni tahakküm biçimi, bir tür ideolojik asimilasyon çabasıdır. “Kürt sorunu”nu sadece “demokratikleşme”ye indirgemek ya da “emek eksenli” soyut bir evrensellik içerisinde eritmek, Kürt milletinin tarihsel deneyimini, isyan hafızasını ve kendi kaderini tayin hakkını fiilen yok saymaktır. Türkiye solu, hâlâ Kemalist modernitenin “medenileştirme misyonu”nu sol maskelerle sürdürmektedir. Bu maskeler bazen “sınıf”, bazen “laiklik”, bazen “anti-emperyalizm”, bazen de “devrimcilik” adını almaktadır. Ancak içerik değişmemektedir: Kürdü görmeyen, Kürdü duymayan, Kürdün hafızasını inkâr eden bir siyasal bakış…
O halde yapılması gereken şey, sadece Kemalizmle hesaplaşmak değil; onun sol içerisindeki izdüşümlerini de teşhir etmektir. Kürt ulusal hafızasının üzerini örten her söylem, ister sağdan gelsin ister soldan, bir sömürgeci bakış açısının ürünüdür. Kürt halkı, tarihsel hafızasını ancak bu çok katmanlı inkâr mekanizmalarına karşı bilinçli bir mücadeleyle inşa edebilir. Bu nedenle, Kürtler için Kemalizm bir ideoloji değil, bir yok oluş projesidir. Türkiye solu ise bu projenin gönüllü ya da farkında olmadan taşıyıcısı haline geldiği ölçüde, Kürtlerin özgürlük mücadelesine yoldaş değil, engel olmaktadır.
Kemalist modernleşmenin içinden konuşan bir sol hareket, kaçınılmaz olarak “tek millet, tek devlet” fikrinin tarihsel içeriğini koruyarak hareket eder. Mahir Çayan ve çevresinin anti-emperyalist perspektifi, “ikinci kurtuluş savaşı” söylemine oturtulurken, bu mücadelenin öznesi olarak yalnızca Türk halkı tahayyül edilmektedir. Kürtler, bu kurguda ya devrimci mücadelede görev alması gereken bir “yardımcı unsur” ya da “feodal yapılarla gerici ilişkileri olan” bir topluluk olarak tasavvur edilir. Burada karşımıza çıkan şey, Kürtleri özne olmaktan alıkoyan, onları bir “tarihsel yük” haline getiren, sol kisveye bürünmüş bir inkâr pratiğidir.
Bu çerçevede, Kürtlerin tarihsel mücadelesi, Türkiye solu tarafından ya görmezden gelinmiş ya da çarpıtılmıştır. 1925 Şeyh Said isyanı, 1930 Ağrı direnişi, 1937-38 Dersim katliamı ve sonrasındaki bütün Kürt başkaldırıları, solun tarih yazımında ya “gerici ayaklanmalar” olarak yer almış ya da “reaksiyoner feodal öznelerin provokasyonları” şeklinde değerlendirilmiştir. Bu yaklaşımın teorik arka planı, solun hala Kemalist aydınlanmacılıkla hesaplaşmamış olmasında yatmaktadır. Türk sol hareketi, aydınlanma ideolojisini, modernizmin ilerlemeci tarih anlayışını ve pozitivist devrimciliği sorgulamak yerine, onu “bilimsel sosyalizm” zannıyla sahiplenmiş; Kürt halkının direnişini ise bu çerçeveye uymadığı için dışlamıştır.
Bu noktada Türkiye solunun en büyük ideolojik krizi, kendi “devrimci” iddialarına rağmen, Kemalizmin kurduğu ulus-devletin temel varsayımlarını sorgulamaması, hatta yeniden üretmesidir. Devletin resmi ideolojisiyle sorunu olmayan bir devrimcilik, özü itibariyle sistem içi bir pozisyondur. Bu anlamda Mahir Çayan’ın ya da Deniz Gezmiş’in Kürt meselesine yönelik sessizliği ya da indirgemeci yaklaşımları, sadece dönemsel bir zaaf değil, yapısal bir körlüktür. Bu körlük, 1971’in ideolojik mirasını taşıdığını iddia eden pek çok bugünkü sol yapı tarafından da sürdürülmektedir.
Kürt ulusal mücadelesinin önünde iki temel görev vardır: İlki, Kemalizmle tüm biçim ve suretleriyle kopmak; ikincisi ise, Kemalizmin gölgesinde yeşermiş olan “devrimci” yapıların ideolojik kuşatmasını dağıtmak. Ancak bu şekilde, Kürtler kendi tarihsel hafızalarını özgürce kurabilir, kendi dilinde düşünmeye ve kendi kaderini tayin etmeye başlayabilir.
Deniz Gezmiş ve Mahir Çayan etrafında şekillenen 68 ve 71 kuşağı, Türkiye sol tarihinde “devrimci romantizm”in sembolleri olarak anıla gelmiştir. Ancak bu kuşağın ideolojik referansları, tarihsel zemini ve politik tahayyülü, görünürdeki radikal duruşlarının ötesinde, Kemalist paradigmanın gölgesinde şekillenmiştir. Onlar, devletle politik olarak karşı karşıya gelmiş olsalar da, zihinsel dünyaları ve tarihsel referansları bakımından devletin inşa ettiği Kemalist rejimin sınırlarını hiçbir zaman aşamamıştır.
Bu kadroların eğitim gördüğü kurumsal yapı, Kemalizmin “ilerlemeci”, “laik”, “ulusçu” öğretisinin doğrudan taşıyıcısıdır. Sol tahayyüllerini şekillendiren temel nosyonlar, Türk modernleşmesinin epistemik kodlarıyla iç içedir. En belirgin olanı ise “milletin birliği”, “anti-emperyalist ulusal kurtuluş” ve “ilerici-geri ikiliği” gibi Kemalist ideolojinin merkezi kavramlarıdır. Bu kavramlar etrafında şekillenen bir siyasal dilin içinde Kürt halkına, sadece marjinalleştirilmiş değil, aynı zamanda “gelişmesi gereken” bir halk gözüyle bakılmıştır. Kürtler bu bağlamda, ya sınıfsal kurtuluş uğruna “terk-i kimlik” etmesi beklenen bir unsur ya da devrimin başarıya ulaşması için “taşınması gereken yük” olarak görülmüştür.
Mahir Çayan’ın teorik metinlerinde veya Deniz Gezmiş’in eylemsel çıkışlarında Kürt meselesine dair herhangi bir yapısal değerlendirme bulunmaması bir eksiklikten ziyade, ideolojik bir yönelimdir. Çünkü Kürt meselesini tarihsel bir ulusal baskı sorunu olarak kabul etmek, doğrudan Kemalist ulus-devlet modelini ve onun kurucu şiddetini sorgulamayı gerektirirdi. Oysa bu kadrolar, Mustafa Kemal’i hâlâ “anti-emperyalist bir lider” olarak yücelten; Cumhuriyet’in kuruluş sürecini “ilerici bir devrim” olarak kodlayan bir anlayışın içerisindeydiler. Buradaki çelişki basit bir tarih bilmezlikten değil, doğrudan ideolojik aidiyetten kaynaklanmaktadır.
Deniz Gezmiş ve arkadaşları 29 Ekim 1969’de Samsun’dan Ankara’ya Mustafa Kemal Yürüyüşü düzenlemişti. Yürüyüşün çağrı metni şöyleydi:
“Büyük Türk Milleti!
Atatürk için toplanalım!
Mustafa Kemal’in Milli Kurtuluş idealini yaşatmak için,
Mustafa Kemal devrimine saldıran karanlık güçlere dur demek için,
Milletçe yabancı uşaklığına düşmekten kurtulmak için,
Tam bağımsız geçekten demokratik Türkiye için,
Gazi Mustafa Kemal’in Milli Kurtuluşçu saflarında toplanalım!
Yaşasın Türkiye!
Yaşasın yarının bağımsız Türkiyesi için mücadele!“
Yürüyüş, Atatürk’ün ölüm yıl dönümünde 10 Kasım 1968’de Ankara’da sona ermişti.
THKO 1. Davası duruşmalarında, Deniz Gezmiş; “Mustafa Kemal’e gerçekten sahip çıkanlar varsa onlar da bizleriz” demiştir. Toplu savunmada bu duruş şöyle ifadelendirilmiştir: “Biz Atatürk’ten Mustafa Kemal diye bahsediyorsak, onu kendimize yakın hissettiğimizden ve onun gibi büyük bir bağımsızlık savaşçısını kendimize silah arkadaşı kabul ettiğimizdendir.” Keza duruşmalarda, “ilga etmekle” suçlandıkları 61 Anayasasının asıl savunucuları olduklarını söylemiş, yürüttükleri mücadeleyi 2. Kurtuluş Savaşı olarak tanımlamışlardır.
Mahir Çayan şöyle söylemektedir: “Kemalizm, ülkemizde asker sivil aydın zümrenin geleceğini yansıtan, anti-emperyalist ve antifeodal bir tavır alıştır. Bu yüzden, Kemalizmin sağı solu olmaz. Kemalizm soldur, Milli Kurtuluşçuluktur, emperyalizme karşı bu zümrenin isyan bayrağıdır. Milli Kurtuluşçu bir tutum yansıtması açısından bizler sapına kadar Atatürkçüyüz. Onun Milli Kurtuluşçuluk bayrağını, hayatımız da dahil, her şeyimizi ortaya koyarak biz dalgalandırıyoruz.”
Mahir Çayan’ın çok kısa ele almış olduğu Kürt ulusal sorunundaki çözüm önerisi de şöyledir:
“Bilindiği gibi, devrimci proletarya, milli meseleyi ulusların kendi kaderlerini tayin hakkının ışığı altında ele alır. Biz, ulusların kendi kaderlerini tayin hakkı ışığı altında diyoruz ki; ‘Her şart altında her zaman meseleyi Misak-ı Milli sınırları içinde ele almak gerekir veya Kürt emekçi halkının çıkarlarıyla bağdaşan tek çözüm yolu ayrılma hakkının kullanılmasıdır,’ diyen görüşler yanlıştır. Bu görüşlerin sahipleri, her iki tarafın burjuva veya küçük burjuva milliyetçi unsurlarıdır. Oysa devrimci proletarya meseleyi diyalektik bir tarzda ele alır. Yani; ulusların kendi kaderini tayin etme hakkının öngörüldüğü, ayrılma, özerklik, federasyon vb. çözüm yollarının hangi şartlar altında ve ne zaman geçerli olabileceğini açıkça ortaya koyar.”
Mahir Çayan’ın önderliğindeki THKP-C savunması şu sözlerle bitiyordu:
“Seçtiğimiz yol, Gazi Mustafa Kemal’in açtığı yoldur,
Onun başlattığı Anadolu İhtilalinin yoludur.
Parolamız, “Ya istiklal, Ya Ölüm!”
Hedefimiz, “İstiklali Tam Türkiye”dir.
Gazi Mustafa Kemal’in yükselttiği tam bağımsız Türkiye bayrağı biz sosyalistlerin ellerinde dalgalanmaktadır”
1971 devrimci hareketi, bu tarihsel meşrulaştırma mekanizmasını devralmış, çoğaltmış ve yeniden üretmiştir. “Halk savaşı”, “anti-emperyalist mücadele”, “devrimci aydınlanma” gibi kavramlar, Kemalist devlet aklının devrimci bir jargonla yeniden ifadesinden başka bir şey değildir. Bu söylemde Kürt halkı, kendi tarihsel özneliğinden soyutlanmış; bir “Türkiye halkları” retoriği içinde eritilmiş; dolayısıyla ulusal benliği inkâr edilmiştir. Böylece hem Cumhuriyet’in kurucu şiddeti aklanmış, hem de Kürt ulusal talebi yapısal olarak susturulmuştur. Bu inkâr biçimi, çıplak şiddetten daha sofistike, daha içsel ve daha tehlikelidir. Çünkü bu kez inkâr, yoldaşlık maskesiyle, devrimcilik söylemiyle, halkçılık kisvesiyle gerçekleştirilir. Bu türden bir sol yaklaşım, Kürt halkının mücadelesini inkâr etmekle kalmamış uzun bir dönem onun devrimci potansiyelini, kendi ideolojik sınırlarına hapsederek denetim altına almaya çalışmıştır.
