25.1.7 has updated just a few days ago


mesa major releases in the past 2 years have proven to be a big mess, there had been a few times we had to revert back to previous stable edition to avoid breaking graphic interface.
mesa is a rust heavy pkg which is key in nearly all graphical applications or their graphic layer underneath in both X and wayland/wlroots, breaking it means you are back to console.

Their release model has been such that resembles a beta -testing approach, "release see what breaks, attempt a fix, rerelease" and it takes a few minor versions before they get it right.
So we have decided to stay with stable 25.1.7 for a little while, and if there is a 25.1.8 release we will upgrade, we will let Arch beta-testing lab rats take the hit on this one.

What percentage of male humans are SRY+ve and SRY-ve? What percentage of female humans are SRY+ve or SRY-ve?

In simplest terms, the testes then produce hormones including testosterone, leading to male development.


Are zygotes sexed?

We know making testes or ovaries requires a complex network of many interacting genes and proteins.

Some genes promote testis development while others promote ovary development.

Other genes either suppress ovary formation or antagonise testis formation.

Even once ovaries or testes are fully formed, we require other genes to maintain them. These genes don’t always function as expected, affecting the development of these organs.


Yes, all these claims are obviously true.

If there is a change in the SRY gene so it does not function as usual, then a person can fail to develop testes and be biologically female. Yet they carry XY chromosomes and under the World Athletics tests they would be excluded from competition.


Correct. What percentage of humans have these SRY variants and develop female phenotypes? What percentage of those are high level athletes?

Other XY individuals may have a functioning SRY gene but are female – with breasts and female genitalia, for example – but have internal testes.


Wait. What? You said 'female' and 'testes'.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, eight of 3,387 women athletes had positive test results for a Y chromosome. Of these, seven were resistant to testosterone.


The author knows this isn't the same population with SRY variants he just mentioned.

He means males with androgen insensitivity, some of whom were deceived by doctors and parents.

World Athletics asserts the SRY gene is a reliable proxy for determining biological sex. But biological sex is much more complex, with chromosomal, gonadal (testis/ovary), hormonal and secondary sex characteristics all playing a role.


It's almost like you want to say "sex associated characteristics" but then the jig would be up, wouldn't it?

This may be easy enough in wealthy countries, but what is going to happen in poorer nations without these facilities?


You can send samples to rich countries where the testing can be done quite cheaply.

It is worth noting these tests are sensitive. If a male lab technician conducts the test he can inadvertently contaminate it with a single skin cell and produce a false positive SRY result.


What clinical test doesn't have to be performed carefully?

Nor does World Athletics recognise the impacts a positive test result would have on a person, which can be more profound than exclusion from sport alone.


Clinical tests have outcomes? You don't say. What percentage of high level male athletes do you suspect are unaware that they are actually male?

Given all the problems outlined above, the SRY gene should not be used to exclude women athletes from competition.

La Procura di Milano ha chiuso l'indagine contro quattro carabinieri accusati di aver cercato di manomettere le prove dell'incidente tra una gazzella dei CC e lo scooter che con a bordo Fares e Ramy. Incidente costato la vita a quest'ultimo. Tra le accuse quella di aver obbligato un testimone oculare a cancellare un video.

Here are my recommendations for Large Astronomy Binoculars. I dont really recommend the Nikons because they are too expensive.

Nikon Astroluxe 18x70 IF WP = $1700 new $900-1000 used
Fujinon 16x70 = $1200 new $500-600 used
Oberwerk 15x70 Deluxe = $330 new $230 used
Celestron Skymaster Pro ED = $275-350 new
Orion Mini Giant 15x70 = $125 used

You can find some older Fujinon 14x70 used as well. The previous iteration.

Dont bother with the 10x70 or 10x80 or the 80mm or 100mm binoculars. It's better to go with 10x50 for lighter weight. And the larger objectives dont gain much relative light to the 70mm, they weigh more and they also have more color fringing as they have to bend the light more in a similar sized frame.

There are some larger 80mm and 100mm binoculars with interchangable eyepieces and longer barrels that arent hand holdable that are good, but expensive and a much later purchase on your astronomy journey (if you even make it that far).

You really dont need big objectives like that to look at the moon. The moon is so bright that collecting that much light into your night time dialated pupils is painful and not recommended.

8x40s or 10x40s are much better for moon observation. Even 7x35s.
