A medium youtuber Language Jones posted a video yesterday where he briefly posted photos and stills of pro-Palestine protests at Columbia while describing the protestors as violent, book-burning "islamic jihadists" and I am squinting trying to see if he was making a point about fact-checking or if he is actually trying to mischaracterize the protests. The section read ambiguous to me: either very dry sarcasm/satire or a malicious intent to undermine anti-genocide protestors.
I can't find anything about him pro- or anti- the genocide, but it was such a startling detour in his video that otherwise had nothing to do with Palestine at all that I'm just gonna unsubscribe from him, which is a shame, but I hope I misunderstand his intent.
His comment section is a mess - folks like me legitimately concerned and other folks saying "well, both sides, and you anti-genocide people are too exclusionary", so I have to assume he's a Zionist if he's not keeping tabs on it.
I'm just gonna block him, because he looks basically identical to another Youtuber I like who *has* been on the right side of history.

Comencé a leer de nuevo el libro de Jenny Odell How to do Nothing. Hace tiempo que leí este libro y no recordaba mucho del contenido, aunque sí de la temática. Cuando recién reiniciábamos actividades después de la pandemia, recuerdo que hubo una oleada de reflexiones sobre el tema de la productividad y el cansancio que nos produjo no tener límites claros entre nuestro trabajo y nuestra vida personal.
Ahora yo he vuelto a reflexionar sobre este tema porque empecé a autoexigirme mucho otra vez. Y no es que realmente fuera necesario. El ritmo de vida que requiero para satisfacer mis necesidades materiales es lento, pero a veces me remuerde esa culpa de no “estar haciendo suficiente”. Con este libro vuelvo a recordarme que no es necesario realmente hacer demasiado; esa idea suele estar aparejada de un deber ser anclado al Capital y no tanto a nuestra vida. Aquí entiendo vida más como el proceso orgánico natural de nuestra mente-cuerpo.
Hay cosas que a veces me pongo a pensar:
Jenny me recuerda un poco que esas dinámicas son producidas y fomentadas. No solamente en el mundo físico, sino también en el mundo digital. Hace tiempo que yo no tengo redes sociales, a excepción de Mastodon, y vaya que el ritmo al que mi mente va, sobre todo buscando información, ha sido decreciendo. Creo que siempre nos quedará un poco esa sensación de que podríamos estar haciendo más: por las personas que amamos, por lograr un cambio social, por nuestro crecimiento personal, etc. Al final del día es absurdo pensar la vida como si fuéramos una compañía que necesita acelerar todos sus procesos y objetivos para mantenerse “competitiva”. No somos eso, y la vida es mucho más que eso.
Hay días que basta con existir, respirar, contemplar el mundo que nos rodea, ser conscientes de nuestro cuerpo, de nuestras emociones, de las personas humanas y no-humanas que cohabitan con nosotrxs; trabajar a ritmo pausado, hacer lo que sentimos que tenemos que hacer y no perder el sentido de lo que amamos hacer.
