If anything would disprove George Orwell's idea of Newspeak being an effective tool to prevent ideas from being expressed, it is the people on youtube using every annoying term to get around demonetization.

I find it annoying when I hear the term "unaliving" instead of suicide. Everyone knows what they mean, it just makes you have to jump through more hoops while everyone knows the real word they mean.

Annoying as it is, I am fine with less parts of 1984 being able to happen.

Newsspeak would eliminate jargon with alternative meanings until eventually only one word exists which is similar to the sound when a duck quacks

Repeating the same word out loud like a mantra would block other words from being verbally thought in the mind

Duck speak claim is shared in both George Orwell's 1984 & also Snapping Americas Epidemic of Personality Change by Conway and Flo if I remember the book title and author correctly but it is called Transcendental Meditation

Oh dear, activists cut either power or telecommunications to JP Morgan, Allianz and Barclays on Monday.

Still, those companies are key players in the $7,900,000,000,000 invested in the fossil fuel industry so Shut The System are justified in doing it.

That sounds like some serious USA soft power fuckery to me. The USA has chronic fuckery when it comes to Cuba and Venezuela.

I'm with the woman in green here.

And if a candidate is progressive you do not want them on a national Democrat ticket. They will get clobbered. Run them on congressional seat tickets where they have a chance of winning and doing some real good. AOC is a great example. Stop talking about her as a national ticket possibility. The only way she would have a chance there is if she changed significantly in ways we would dislike. I hope she stays where she is and continues as she is doing.

And besides, the Democrats do in fact work for many progressive measures that are vehemently opposed by the Republicans. There actually is a huge divide between the efforts of the two major parties.

I just asked my local AI to list some of the accomplishments during the Biden administration. Here is some of what I got. Compare this to what's happening now and tell me about how the GOP and the Democrats are indistinguishable.

The administration passed major legislative initiatives, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a $1.2 trillion investment in transportation, clean water, high-speed internet, and clean energy.
As of early 2025, nearly $600 billion in funding had been announced, supporting over 72,000 projects such as repairs to more than 200,000 miles of roads and 12,000 bridges, the replacement of nearly 500,000 lead pipes, and investments in rail, ports, and airports.

The CHIPS and Science Act aimed to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing and U.S. leadership in science and technology, reducing reliance on foreign supply chains.
Additionally, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) represented the largest national investment in combating climate change, allocating hundreds of billions in tax credits for clean energy and rebates for electric vehicles, solar panels, and energy-efficient appliances.
The IRA also extended Affordable Care Act subsidies through 2025, benefiting millions of enrollees.

On healthcare, the IRA lowered prescription drug costs for Medicare recipients, including a $35 monthly cap on insulin and a $2,000 annual cap on out-of-pocket drug spending starting in 2025.
The law also enables Medicare to negotiate prices for high-cost drugs beginning in 2026.

The administration advanced labor rights, being described as the most pro-union in history.
President Biden became the first sitting president to walk a picket line during the 2023 UAW strike.
His administration protected approximately 2 million workers’ pensions through the Butch Lewis Act and expanded overtime eligibility to millions of workers.
Federal contracting opportunities for small businesses reached a record $178.6 billion, with significant growth in Black, Latino, and women-owned businesses.

Other accomplishments include signing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant federal gun safety legislation in decades, which enhanced background checks and funded mental health and violence prevention programs.
The law also included $10 billion for mental healthcare, the largest such investment in U.S. history.
The Respect for Marriage Act was enacted to protect same-sex and interracial marriages, and President Biden appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to the Supreme Court.

The administration also prioritized racial equity, diversity in judicial appointments, and student debt relief, with approximately $127 billion in loan forgiveness approved across multiple rounds.
It reformed the student loan system through initiatives like the SAVE plan, making repayment more manageable for borrowers.
Additionally, the Postal Service Reform Act was signed to stabilize mail delivery, and a corporate minimum tax was implemented to ensure large companies pay a fair share.

Cody, this is not the DC we know, love. I worked for much of my day job within one or two blocks of the #whitehouse before and after 9/11. Changes hit us hard thereafter but we have never experienced this level of open warfare against out city, her citizens and those who work and visit here. It is shameful - actually there no adequate words or phrases for it. Please stay safe and may your family and neighbors be safe. Take care of one another and your community. We will prevail - w bikes!
