@greenzeta the morally corrupt in China tried to get rid of the morally corrupt. The only thing any culture should ever do is to be humble enough to realize they are not in charge and that they should always be trying to appease the One Almighty because He wants what we should all ultimately want and loves life. We have to trust in God because He has a perspective we cannot have. We may fail at our faith and people drift away from it, but that doesn’t mean we stop trying.

When I was looking around for support in customizing #Hubzilla ...well, I didn't get the support I needed, though I did figure it out in the end myself. What I did get was a rather interesting issue brought up in a forum: #^forum.statler.ws/display/?mid=…

Basically, a couple people comparing the existence of a public feed available to anyone, including people not logged in, to rape culture, because people are being exposed to content that they may not like or be offended by.

My instantaneous reaction was "dear god libs are still hung up on their 'safe spaces'", and, as a survivor myself, comparing seeing something you don't like on the internet to rape seems pretty tasteless. But that also seems like someone a lot of people would call me an asshole for, so I thought it might be worthwhile to do more thinking on it, and see what others think.

My reasoning is: All these posts are public anyway. Back before the internet was all consolidated by corporations, internet safety wasn't only about basic stranger danger, but also just knowing what sites not to click on to avoid offensive content — and also understanding that sometimes, you'll be exposed to that offensive content anyway.

Hubzilla admins also have regex-based control over blocking content from the public stream, along with more basic blocking of channels and instances.

I haven't done a lot of that, because my hub's public stream is mostly stuff that I follow, or political things that others follow; and I do have the public stream active and as my public homepage, because I feel it gives the best sense of the content someone will have if they join the hub. As #WotW grows, I may change the public feed to contain content originating only here, but for now, that would mainly be one person, which doesn't look awesome I don't think (as that one person).

But yeah, I wonder what people think: Is a generally unmoderated public feed rape culture? Should my new little hub use it on its front page, or is there a more attractive alternative?

I stumbled upon #Radicle, a decentralized #Git hosting/sharing solution: radicle.xyz. It provides a really good guide at radicle.xyz/guides/user.

Even as a hardcore fan of #Forgejo, I have to admit Radicle feels extremely well thought out. Might even be better than ForgeFed. Any thoughts? e.g. @Codeberg @jwildeboer

We had a foot-hold situation at my last job where a nation-state attacker had gained access to our tenant Azure AD infrastructure and was able to use the relative low-level access they were able to obtain to pivot and gain access to our internal network by exploiting several weaknesses in our policies and practices. We actually brought in Microsoft to help lock things down and they recommended a whole slew of changes to our internal and external architecture. Servers and apps were classified by their criticality. Tier 0, Tier 1, Tier 2, etc. New network segmentation was implemented. Jump boxes, and jump "laptops" were issued. Only some servers could be accessed by special laptops across special segmented VPN connections. There were no sharing of network resources allowed across domains. Took us about 6 months to recover from that incident. That was back in 2021. The fact that Microsoft wasn't "eating their own dogfood" is completely understandable, and every single one of us in IT has gone through this ourselves. ---

Microsoft openly admitting they have not(!) had MFA, network segmentation, least privilege, software lifecycle, jump-servers, asset- and software-inventory etc for Azure PROD for years and they are not there yet.

This whole report is just so scary. At the same time, good that they are finally working on it and making it transparent.

As one of those able to absorb that inflation, I'm still pissed about it, less for myself than for the people I know who can't afford this shit.

But too many people in my socio-economic strata have never experienced being broke, let alone actually poor, and are unable to understand how much closer we are from being financially shattered than being as rich as our bosses.

One of my children was explaining to me that they're just shrugging about their credit cards, and expecting to die with debt. And tells me everyone in their generation is accepting the same thing. Trying to explain that if they're living paycheck to paycheck, it's a recipe for ruin, but it's not a lecture since I don't blame them--everything is unaffordable. I can help them once their younger siblings are out of college, but that's not everyone's case.
