According to CBS News Colorado, Orest Schur, 29, confronted two teenagers dressed in black who were attempting to break into his Hyundai Elantra outside his Aurora home in 2023. Prosecutors said Schur, then 27, retrieved a pistol and chased the suspects after they fled in another vehicle.
As he chased them, Schur fired 11 rounds, striking both teens, and their getaway car crashed into a backyard fence four blocks away from Schur’s home. Fourteen-year-old Xavier Kirk was shot in the head and back and died at a hospital [the wurl is a bettah place]. His 13-year-old accomplice, who was driving the car, was shot in the back but survived after reaching a relative’s home and was taken to a hospital. Investigators found no evidence that either teen was armed.
Schur was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. He was convicted in June of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder and faced a maximum sentence of 80 years in jail.
Last week, Judge Caryn Datz sentenced him to 54 years in prison. “This was vigilante violence at its worst, and now a young man is dead,” said Adams and Broomfield Counties District Attorney Brian Mason.

Regulatory oversight has been inadequate. There is, however, evidence that the system aids enforcement of laws against criminal enterprises. Despite the consensus that the system works poorly, there is almost no discussion of substantial reforms.

Find a small to medium sized business and ask for their boxes. In NC, ABC stores have a designated free box pile - the boxes for glass bottles are super strong and a great size. Plus the dividers are already there for packing glasses.
Also check craigslist and NextDoor.
You'll want to start collecting about a month before the move, but you can get more than enough boxes without paying a dime.
Liquor stores are the #1 place to get boxes, and also check your local UHaul as they have a spot where people drop off used moving boxes and you can take them free of charge.
A lot of dollar stores will let you grab a stack off their flattened box cart. They usually pay for someone to haul them, so giving away boxes saves them a buck or two. The problem is that a lot of the boxes are very thin cardboard and not sturdy at all. But good for putting things in a small box to put in a larger box, like food items.
BTW, the best day for boxes from the liquor store is Monday, after the weekend restock.

In a rural midcentury Pennsylvania farmhouse, a young woman named Marian is going into labor. Her mother is by her side, her father goes outside to find Marian's husband, Ray, who is outside, bitterly smoking a cigarette. Marian's mother tells Ray he's about to become a father. Ray snaps, "Can't I just finish my fucking cigarette?"
In just a few pages of economical storytelling, illustrated with simple ink-washes, Mendes sets in motion a story of cyclic abuse, unconditional love, redemption, and tragedy. "Economical" is a strange word to apply to Mendes's book, which is a fat 574 pages long.
(The book is a beautiful artifact, on thick paper that drinks the ink-wash illustrations and renders them in lush, mysterious gradients; the cover stock, embossing, and other features are all gorgeous, thoughtful and understated - this is a joy to hold.)
But the storytelling *is* economical, light on dialog, with panels that flow smoothly from one to the next, conveying a dynamic gestalt at the page level, and nuance in each panel.
This economy of storytelling - including some brilliantly handled jumps in the action that leap several years at the turn of a page - makes the book fly by, such that I read it all (really it feels like I *drank* it all) in one sitting. Marian and Ray end up on a military base where Marian works at the PX. Edie, the baby that was born in that opening scene, grows up in the shadow of vicious, relentless physical abuse, as Ray beats and torments Marian. Naturally, Edie spends a lot of time with her friends - and away from home - and we see how the rage within her ruptures under stress, sometimes hurting her, sometimes the children around her, and sometimes both.
But these scenes also paint a picture of tender, wild camaraderie, the uncomplicated and pure friendship of children, thoughtlessly intense. We see how Edie is both rooted in this place, and also anchored there, unable to imagine life away from these kids.
So when Marian finally leaves Ray, fearing for her life and Edie's, we feel Edie's pain at leaving - and then her heartbreak as her mother leaps off the train they are escaping on to intercept Ray and keep Edie safe.
Edie makes her way to the grandparents who haven't seen her since the day of her birth, and the second act begins.
This act is a long, beautiful coming of age story, as Edie heals, nurtured in the bosom of her loving, good grandparents; the bucolic life on the farm; the friends she surrounds herself with. Mendes gives us generous - but never drawn out - peeks into Edie's life as she matures from a child, to a teen, to a young woman.
The third act begins with Edie at 17, pregant by the boy next door, deciding to marry him and move out of state with him to a place where a relative can give them jobs and a trailer to live in and start their family.
And before long, the cycle of abuse has begun again.
*The Weight* is a ferocious read, the sweetness of the highs there to provide texture for the bitterness of the lows. Like a strip of white paper bisecting a sheet of black, the juxtaposition of the idyllic second act with the brutality of the beginning and end makes all three acts impossibly vivid.

Samsung’s One UI 8 update appears to block more users from unlocking their device’s bootloader, preventing them from installing custom software and making other changes to their Galaxy device.
Clarification for those that only read popular headlines. The EU Radio Lockdown Directive does not in any way specify that hardware makers should lock down their bootloaders. On the contrary, it specifically points out it should not be used as an excuse to do just that.
The baseband (radio) part of a mobile phone is protected by other means than the bootloader for the general OS, and has so been for many years.
