Llevo siendo fan de Harry Potter desde los 9-10 años y en todo este tiempo he comprado y me han regalado todo tipo de merch de la saga, asi que cuando me enteré de que JK estaba financiando proyectos transfobos y en contra del colectivo LGBTIQ+ me sentí fatal por haber permitido que todo ese dinero fuese destinado a algo de lo que estoy completamente en contra. Me reconozco como persona queer desde los 13 años asi que me dolió especialmente por eso, asi que decidí que no volvería a comprar más cosas de Harry Potter e intento que no me las regalen.
Entonces, cuando hace poco J. K. Rowling financió con dinero obtenido de Harry Potter una campaña transfoba que llevó a la retirada de derechos de personas trans de Reino Unido, se me ocurrió que algo que podía hacer para aportar mi pequeño grano de arena era donar dinero a asociaciones trans, ¿y que mejor manera de hacerlo que vendiendo las cosas de Harry Potter que ya no quiera y donar todo el dinero que obtenga? A month ago, we were hiking in the Tetons. Waiting for a shuttle, chatting w/ folks in line. Guys in front of us were from PA & NJ, recently moved to CO. When they found out my partner was from Scranton PA, one asked "don't you miss the food!" We looked at each other in horror and said "No!" The guy went on to say that there is no good bread in CO and he just wishes he was back east. We couldn't even manage to voice the WTF.
It's true, there are great restaurants. And I cook for myself. In the aggregate, the normal appears to be boring and typical stuff you can get anywhere else.

I've tried ranch dressing. It's ... meh. Kinda bland. Not among my favorites. Yeah, it's got some tang, but lots of things are tangy. It's not a patch on a good blue cheese dressing, or Russian/Thousand Island. The only two I'd bother keeping in my fridge are blue cheese and Russian.
(Supposedly Russian and Thousand Island are distinct things, but honestly I doubt I could tell you which was which in a blind taste test.)

Yes, I’ve tried ranch dressing and have some in my fridge right now. I neither love it or hate it, but I don’t dislike it. I just didn’t grow up with it. I’m fine with it on a salad, but I think it’s better as a dip for raw carrots, cucumbers, etc.
For the typical salad/veggies purposes I'm not a fan. I like it when paired with savory and spicy, but at the same time if I'm, say, in the mood for ranch with wings (my favorite use for it), I'll actively try to get something a fair bit spicier than usual to make sure it's not lost in the sauce but appropriately contrasting.

PA, I grew up with it and like it, but also love blue cheese. They have very different uses though. If someone serves ranch dressing with buffalo wings I have a near heart attack, that needs to be blue cheese, as does a wedge salad with bacon. I'm from the Bay area, I grew up with hidden valley ranch as a staple in my diet and when I realized I was lactose intolerant, struggled to find a dairy free ranch I liked until I found hidden valley was making a plant based version of theirs.

"Mr. Tesla": Der Wechsel von Brandenburgs Ex-Wirtschaftsminister Steinbach zur Tesla-Kanzlei CMS ist schon an sich problematisch. Doch das Verhalten der Landesregierung in der Sache ist es mindestens ebenso. Gut, dass @fragdenstaat.de jetzt Klage eingereicht hat!
Hintergrund der Klage ist die Weigerung der Potsdamer Staatskanzlei, klare Auskünfte dazu zu geben, wie sie solche Seitenwechsel von ehemaligen Mitgliedern der Landesregierung prüft und warum sie im Fall Steinbach erst grünes Licht gab, dann aber doch eine vorläufige Untersagung aussprach.
Brandenburg hat ein Gesetz, das regelt, wie mit Interessenkonflikten umgegangen wird, die beim Wechsel aus Regierungsämtern zu Unternehmen und Verbänden bestehen könnten. Bis zu 2 Jahre kann die Landesregierung die Aufnahme neuer Tätigkeiten untersagen, wenn dies im Konflikt mit öffentlichen Interessen steht.
Doch die Anwendung dieses Gesetzes erscheint in Brandenburg äußerst merkwürdig. Das Gesetz sieht ein Extra-Gremium vor, das Wechsel prüfen und Empfehlungen aussprechen soll, ob der Wechsel OK ist, unter Auflagen genehmigt wird oder eine Abkühlphase gelten soll.
ieses Gremium gibt es auch, doch die Potsdamer Staatskanzlei scheint sich eine Art Vorprüfungs-Sonderrecht herauszunehmen, welche Fälle es dem Gremium überhaupt vorlegt. Das entkernt Sinn und Zweck der Regelung, so geht es nicht!

A New York appellate court threw out the half-billion-dollar penalty in the civil fraud case against President Trump and others on Thursday, ruling that the fine was "excessive."
One of the judges on the Appellate Division, First Judicial Department wrote that the penalty, known as a disgorgement, against Mr. Trump, two of his sons and other executives and their company was "an excessive fine barred by the Eighth Amendment."
A New York appellate court threw out the $527 million penalty in the civil fraud case against President Trump and others on Thursday, ruling that the fine was "excessive."
In February 2024, a New York judge ordered Mr. Trump and his codefendants to pay the state nearly $364 million in "ill-gotten gains" and millions more in interest dating back years, a total that has since ballooned to about $527 million. Judge Arthur Engoron's judgment left Mr. Trump on the hook for nearly 98% of the total.
The New York attorney general can appeal Thursday's decision to the state's highest court.
