The body keeps the score, yes? The fear & desperation digs down deep into your flesh & never fully leaves.

in reply to Artemis • • •Many, many of us sought recovery & healing as we grew, but others stayed in those communities, never addressing the deep fear & sense of constant insecurity deep in their consciousness.
The abuse is the point. The abuse creates creatures of fear who don't know where it is coming from or how to direct or dissipate it.

in reply to Artemis • • •They say the most basic human bond is that of a child to its parents. Ideally, the tiny, helpless child learns trust: that they will be cared for when they need it & comforted when they are sad or afraid or angry.
What happens when that trust is broken? When the child is punished for having needs or crying out for help?
No wonder fear proliferates in communities where committing such abuse of your children is required as a condition of entry.

in reply to Artemis • • •Child abuse is one of the fundamentals of the fascist project: the damage to a person's sense of security & identity is more effective the younger it starts.
To liberate our world, we must liberate children. "Parents rights" are nothing: you do not have the right to abuse or neglect a child regardless of their relation to you.
And as long as infants & young children are raised in pain & fear, that pain & fear will reverberate through our world.

No comfort. No affection.
As if love is a disease, to be stamped out.
Cruelty is their religion.

in reply to Violet Madder • • •Yeah, this thread happened because on one of my previous posts, someone mentioned "blanket training", which is a practice repugnant enough that some people struggle to believe it when you explain it to them.

My spouse grew up in a "they are just doing x,y,z for attention" house, and it was a breakthrough for her that needing attention is not a bad thing. This line was used to dismiss all kinds of bullying and neglect.

in reply to Corvid Crone • • •My dad felt much better about it after he was told by a doctor that babies cry because it's their only way to get exercise, and so it's nothing to worry about and I should just be left to tire myself out.

1. never stick out or do anything unorthodox
2. keep the hate & beatings directed outward, away from yourself.
explains a lot.

The only way to achieve a sense of security or satisfaction in that culture is to have power, to be punching down on somebody else. Even when they're given actual affection, they view whoever is giving it to them with contempt and mistrust-- and any warm fuzzy feelings it gives them feel like a weakness.
Even at the top of their game, with riches and admiration, they constantly fear the envy of those who would take what they have and tear them down, so if anything the insecurity intensifies the higher they climb.
And so here we are, ruled by malignant narcissists that are totally miserable sacks of shit under all the bravado and shiny toys.
