uwu we’re just a smol group of frens who took millions in VC cash over multiple funding rounds so we HAVE to follow these no good bad laws sowwy 👉👈

Bluesky seems intent on being a worse version of twitter for some reason. Top to bottom it’s a completely useless organization that stands for nothing. At least Twitter has the whole “we’re Nazis now” going for it. Bluesky is too cowardly to consider choosing a side.

The Lunar Environment Structural Test Rig simulates the intense cold of the lunar night, ranging from 40 Kelvin (K) to 125 K while maintaining a vacuum environment. This creates a tool by which scientists and engineers can test materials, electronics, and flight hardware for future Moon and Mars missions, characterizing their behaviors at these temperatures while also validating their ability to meet design requirements.

stuff like fchannel and multichan were cool experiments, but they didn't really scale up very well since 'anonymous' and federation don't really mix, and its kind of hard to do a distributed message board without just reinventing usenet.
I think a fedi network in a similar spirit to IRC would work better for a more anonymous system, accounts don't really need to be a commodity and server ops can just tune anons out if they don't want to deal with spam and stupid shit. I'm open to the idea of running FBE in a way where people can freely link their own servers, get their names verified and be part of the namespace that way. I think it'd be fun and a better middle ground between being a private club and open season, once the right software for that exists I could probably do it.

It makes me feel insane to be able to remember a time when it was not normal for people to just blatantly camp in public and that's why when the Occupy Wall Street protests happened people were camping in tents in public because it was shocking and it was an extremely effective protest tactic "people are setting up tents at the park? WHAAAAT????" if people tried to do the same thing now, would anybody even notice?

big bird: Mr. Buddha? is it true there's no such thing as me?

the buddha: There is a you, Big Bird. but not the kind you can hold in your hand

big bird: but I have a name. and feathers. and friends. Isn’t that me?

the buddha:those are parts of you. But they are always changing, aren’t they?

big bird: I guess so. my feathers fall out, and I get taller, and sometimes I even feel different inside

the buddha: That’s right. You are like a song, Big Bird, not a thing, but something happening

big bird: But if I’m just a song, what keeps me from disappearing?

the buddha: The love you give. teh kindness you carry. The way you make others smile. That’s the part that echoes

big bird: So I don’t have to hold onto 'me' so tightly?

the buddha: No. You are still here, even when you let go

big bird: Like a feather on the wind?

the buddha: Exactly.

big bird: I think I’ll go sing with my friends now

the buddha: And the song will go on

"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people. "

what's even the deal with all these so-called "privacy" chat software being mobile-first? mobile devices are notoriously privacy disrespecting and using one as a main way to use your software seems silly.
signal, session, deltachat all have mobile clients where the effort goes and for computers there's a half-broken ugly electron client that's apparently only an afterthought.

Anyone who thinks #Putin is anything like #Stalin or that Stalin would have agreed with him on #Ukraine: Stalin fought tooth and nail for Ukraine to be viewed globally as an independent nation and is the reason it's in the UN as such to this day.

Putin idealizes the childish view of Stalin as a strongman. That's all. It's a view that Stalin himself fought against, and was championed mainly by the people like Khrushchev who would later use that strongman image to decry him as a brute in order to try to build their own cult. Putin cares about business, he cares about dividing people, he cares about imperial conquest; while Stalin cared about nation-building, unity, and national independence. (People will point to the Winter War, but need to recall #Russia and Karelia's history before Stalin; Stalin was also the one who announced Finland's independence from the USSR in 1917).

Anyone familiar with Soviet history must know that, beyond a shadow of a doubt, Stalin would have had Putin purged, and the only reason Putin wants to be connected to the image of Stalin is because, in contrast to how we in the west view him, Stalin has always enjoyed immense popularity throughout former Soviet nations. It's like modern American presidents comparing themselves to Lincoln, even though they probably would have in reality sided with the Confederates. It's pure propaganda.
