2026 Celebrity Dead Pool Rules

1. Pick 13 celebrities (Lucky 13) plus 3 alternates, that you predict will die in the upcoming year, 2026. If any of your selections pass away, you score 100 points minus their age at death (see Rule #7 below). The only stipulation for your 13 selections is that a minimum of one MUST be 50 years old, or younger. Whoever has the most points at the end of the year…wins.

It’s rather simple.

2. Please check the spelling of your celebrity’s names, as editing takes up a lot of time. Also, please do not put spaces or periods between abbreviated letters. For example: “George HW Bush” instead of George H. W. Bush"

3. All picks must be made by 11:59PM CENTRAL TIME on December 31st, 2025 (that’s my time zone and since I’m doing it, that’s the limit… sorry). Late entries, i.e. ANY time after midnight of Jan 1st, will be turned away.

4. In order to maintain an air of mystery until the 2026 pool begins, I am asking that you DM me your list, and I will post a link to all lists after 1/1.

5. Valid picks CANNOT be:

a. already dead

b. fictional

c. under age 18

d. a registered member of the noauthority instance

e. hostages held by terrorist organizations

f. famous solely as a result of their illness or the events surrounding their death

7. “Age at Death” will be the celebrity’s age on Jan. 1st. If someone is 80 years old on 1/1/26, has a birthday during the year, but then dies sometime after, we will use 80 as their official age at death. If we are uncertain about the celebrity’s age at death due to conflicting sources’ birthdates, we will go by the higher age (lower score).

8. Prisoners held on death row count only if they die by means other than official execution.

9. If you kill anyone on your list to try to get ahead or cheat, then you will automatically be disqualified.

10. Editing your choices: In the past I have allowed editing of lists up to the deadline. However since I am verifying names, birthdays, and putting them into the official spreadsheet for the entire month of Dec. and into January, I am going to say that once a list is submitted it is final.

11. Alternates are important, in the case of a pick being deemed invalid, or a pick dying prior to January 1st. I will allow swapping of alternates to the final list of 13, but at Midnight on January 1st, it is locked. If one of your list passes away before January 1st and you do not have alternates listed, you forfeit that slot and will play with only 12 (and so on).

12. Questions may be raised about the appropriateness of a pick at any point after a list is posted, even after 1/1/26. Alternates picks play an important role, as “questionable” picks may be disqualified post-posting.

13. If a player changes their username at some point, post this news on the thread, or PM me, so I know who you are.

14. Tracking celebrity deaths is the job of each individual player. I will do my best but I cannot guarantee I will catch them all. Wikipedia maintains a page of deaths each month, and is an excellent reference for checking deaths. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_…

15. I create and share a Scorekeeper in the form of an Excel Spreadsheet. I am happy to share this with any and all participants. I generally post to Google Sheets, and update it after every death that I see reported, or if a player notifies me that one of their selections has passed, though the “official scoresheet” is kept on my computer.

17. Determination of who is a celebrity will remain a subjective matter, but generally defined as “the person has some known presence in the form of a Wikipedia Page and/or notoriety in the news or such” and their fame or celebrity cannot be based solely on their having a terminal illness". Sole possession of a Wikipedia page will not constitute “celebrity”. If questioned, the person who posted that individual may be required provide such evidence.

19. Scoring: When a celebrity dies you get 1 point for the correct selection, plus 100 points minus the age of the pick as of Jan. 1. Celebrities over 100 are allowed but will only count for 1 point (we will not go negative in terms of age points).
If anyone has any questions, post to the thread, or PM me.

That’s it… Have fun, everyone. Good luck!

I’m thinking about adding a new wrinkle into the mix. For those that are going to be playing in 2026, what would you think of a double indemnity clause… double the score for a “non-natural” death. And by non-natural, I mean a plane crash, car crash, murder, etc.

As an example, if we had this rule in place, those who selected Rob Reiner would have scored 46 instead of the regular 23 points.

I’m going to consider this, but if you have an opinion, feel free to let me know.
