My ebooks and audiobooks (from FSGxMCD, Tor Books, Head of Zeus, McSweeneys, Beacon, Verso and others) are for sale all over the net, but I sell 'em too, and when you buy 'em from me, I earn twice as much and you get books with no DRM and no license "agreements."

So if you write a book, you own it, and can extend permissions for use to others as you see fit, but they can never "own" it, you retain the capacity to retract those rights, extend them to others, etc. for the duration it's protected. (With death of the author(s) as a hard-limit on duration.)

in reply to V • • •My goodness, this is a terrible idea.
So if I license your book to make a movie, and spend ten years of my life making it, and then release it, you can make me destroy it?
We'd replace the system whereby any musician is allowed to record any song by paying a fixed fee with one where you have to track down and license every composition?
We'd kill the ability of musicians to perform live covers by paying a blanket license?
Authors could delete your ebooks from your Kindle?

"Retract those rights" was not the best way to phrase what I mean; I don't mean you can arbitrarily pull out of rights agreements, but that authors can't be locked out of their own creative works and have some authority to prevent things like their work going into some vault unused and unusable for 60 years.
