Is it the radical left espousing otherwise though? Seems to me it's individuals of all walks of life who've understood how plutocrats/ the wealthy/ deluded republicans have twisted the theory of large numbers such that their ability to profit, in every instance, is priority ...
This is the opening if Democrats will only take it. Shapiro's own fans blasted him for the "leftist" narrative that Musk just expressed. This is a hard-hitting reality that affects everyone. It can bust political gamesmanship. You thought the eggheads were a surprising political force. The price of eggs has nothing on the price of health care. And the devastation and desperation it invokes.
If Democrats embrace this fully (they're half way there) and drive it as an ongoing theme for the next four years, it could become a rallying cry that could out-shout the "border security" bullshit. And unlike the wall and culture wars - actually have positive effect on people's lives.
The drug companies and other parts of the medical industry pay lobbyists to buy congress critters so that doesn't happen, but it'd be great if it did happen. We may have boiled that frog enough, but, after my whole lifetime of letting it get worse, I'll believe it when I see it.
@Jay Bryant fair point. But Biden did take opening shots on insulin among 50-odd additional common prescription drugs. Democrats are willing to move in this space. I honestly don't know what the political blowback is for that (we know money is the fuel of politics - Citizens United, etc, etc.). But if Centrist Democrats were already willing to dance on the edges then its unlikely to be THAT strong a headwind.
Profits over people is a policy choice, not a natural law. Plutocrats and politicians with the power to make that choice should make it wisely, with the full range of possibilities and consequences in mind.
a company that pays $50B to its ceo could GREATLY increase its dividends to shareholders if that ceo were to disappear from the records, so it should ruthlessly strive to achieve that. I bet they could figure out a way.

The possibility is there.
