The Father Of Lies
“A righteous man hates lying,
but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame.”
Proverbs 13:5
When a person is born again, his nature is changed. He comes to love what God loves, and hate what God hates. Among the things God hates is lying. Throughout his Word God repeats again and again his hatred for lying.
“These six things the Lord hates,
yes, seven are an abomination to him:
a proud look, a lying tongue…”
Proverbs 6:16-17
Why is that so? Well one reason is that lying is the very character of the enemy of our souls. Jesus said of Satan:
“When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources,
FOR HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF IT.”
John 8:44
So when one lies, he can be sure that it is fostered by Satan himself, “the father of lies.”
That doesn’t mean that every person who has lied is going to hell. Everyone has lied. What it means is that the person whose NATURE is to lie – is of the devil and you can’t walk with Satan your whole life and then think that you’ll go with Jesus when you die.
The nature of Jesus is truth:
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life.'”
John 14:6
Truth is the very nature of God. He who is born again will love truth by nature because his nature has been changed.
If you see in yourself that there isn’t a love for truth, it might be an indication that though you might be religious, your nature hasn’t been changed, you have not been born again, truth is a dispensable commodity to you.
Examine your nature and see which one best describes you.
