The last sentence above (and, I am realising now, the title picture itself too, of course) refers to this famous Gramsci quote

“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters”

Special shout-out too to @aral, whose great talk about the Small Web reminded me of forgotten older plans to do something Small Is Beautiful related in 2023 😊

My parents (of all people) just told me about this event they went to today - of course it's 50 year also since #LimitsToGrowth. My father was super enthusiastic about Weizsaecker's speech, on how we have to stop celebrating the Enlightenment, that it was really fundementally about colonial extraction and is a paradigm that has to end. Really quite amazing to hear my father tell me all this!

#ClimateDiary 4th March 2023. I think this year, 2023, may really be a #TurningPoint in both bad and good ways. #ClimateCrisis and #Drought may become really critical globally ⬇️ - much sooner than we anticipated. Deeply worrying and scary. But there is also, I feel, rapidly growing momentum towards real change - 50 years after #SmallIsBeautiful ⬆️ and #LimitsToGrowth 2/5

On the recommendation of a friend, I read this book for the first time last year. Much of the content made me realise that I wasn't the only person who could see there are flaws in current systems (economic and political); and that there are sensible alternatives. I went on to read "Doughnut Economics" (Prof. Kate Raworth) which provides further evidence of the need for change, and also suggests how we might make changes beneficial for all.
