People select text for a whole bunch of reasons: to highlight a passage that they want someone to read, as a bookmark when they are away for five minutes, to change the appearance of a piece of text, etc. And some people do it as others move their mouse for no reason.

And when they do all this, their computer systematically and silently make a copy to another hidden clipboard (even for those who use a clipboard manager, its content is not displayed, you have to paste it to know its nature).

Even with full knowledge of the facts, we can wonder if it’s reasonable to put this function in opt-out, but regarding new users, for the most part they don’t even have an idea that all this is happening.

If we consider that copying is a sensitive action, then by default it should only be done by a voluntary act, and at least be done with the knowledge of the user.

However, it is undeniable that the middle click paste is a very appreciated function, so it seems essential to me that it can be enabled/disabled graphically and simply, and not via the command line. I specify because this second option seems to be considered, and even if we can currently do it graphically, we must install an application other than the GNOME control panel.

My two cents.
