@beta orbiter Problem with copper mines is at some point they are abandoned, then you stop pumping the water out, the water leaches metals and becomes ultra-acidic and incapable of supporting life. Since the pumps are stopped, and there is no outlet for this toxic water, it continues to rise until eventually it overflows into streams and kills all life in them.
