Netflix released a new documentary called "Buy Now!" and it is very very good.

I don't know how it got funded, because it actually tells the truth about a lot of controversial topics, such as: illegal dumping of hazardous waste, greenwashing fraud schemes, planned obsolescence, tech worker's personal responsibility to not help their employer cause harm in the world, & the importance of pushing through the pain of neoliberal cognitive dissonance.

Go watch it. Thanks.

I don't like Jeff Bezos as an individual, but I do like Amazon as a service. It IS efficient, saves me a lot of driving trips that otherwise would be dumping that much more CO2 into the air, and carries a large number of vendors so I can be very specific in finding something that meets my needs, and if something goes wrong they are very quick and easy to make it right.

For example, I tend to suffer a bit from what is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, basically a depression that comes on in the winter when the days are shorter, only for me it's not really so much emotion but physical, I sleep much longer hours, generally have less energy and motivation, and one of the LED bulbs in my office was already failing so I thought I will order some very bright bulbs and with a slightly bluer color to help me get through the winter better. Old lights were about 2800k color temperature and had kind of an orangy pink color, I really wanted more red in them but instead got a lot of orange. Ok, so this time I ordered some 4000k 2700 lumen bulbs.

Ordered a package of four from Amazon, two days later they arrived. Put the first three into service, excellent, really nice neutral white light and no flicker and brighter, I instantly felt an uplift in my energy level. But when I installed the fourth, disappointment, it was dim, produced an ugly blue-green light, and and flickered horribly.

Called Amazon, five minutes later a replacement is on the way. I'll probably take existing bulb apart to see what is wrong, but I kind of suspect the LEDs themselves did not get the proper phosphor coating because nothing else could really explain the aweful blue-green color, but also a defective ballast would cause the flicker. The ballast I might be able to repair but can't do much to fix the leds, but I can find some other use for them.

Also, I've never found any hint that Amazon is discouraging be fixing things, in fact, the server this Friendica is running on, is running on a USED motherboard I purchased off of Amazon.
