It would seem that because French is the language of the islands the connection to French is much more recent and direct than the Kouri-Vini language of fewer than 10,000 Creole folk in Louisiana. The dialect in the islands is said to be spoken by 13 million people. It provides a common language for populations that move freely among the French and English speaking islands in the Carribean.

Must be fascinating for a native French speaker to listen to it.
