A certain particularly terminal sector of online leftists obsess over language so much that it crosses the threshold from reasonable inclusivity to CIA level sabotage tactics at some points.
American hyper individualism has trumped actual praxis. Saying the right things is great and all, but serving the people and improving the actual lives of oppressed people should be the priority.
Personally, I don't care if you occasionally use an intelligence based insult, just as long as you actually do shit to help disabled people live better lives. Is it the nicest to call someone an idiot or a moron? No. But actions matter more. Saying this as someone with autism and ADHD who has suffered ableist abuse and harassment in the past.
I would rather have a country fried communist who doesn't know all the language, than an Oregon liberal.

I'm probably going to get pushback from this, but really this is something that is peculiar to leftists on micro blogging platforms.
This isn't really a feature of the New (1960s-1970s) or Old (1880s-1930s) Left.

Also, a culture of language policing is incredibly damaging to disabled people, working class folks, and newly educated socialists. It has the real potential to spawn real world abuse and destroy the organizational ability of the socialist left by encouraging the marginalization of already vulnerable people who would otherwise be firm advocates for left politics.
Punitive and vindictive language culture should be replaced with education and understanding if the online left wants to translate their clicks into action.

I also consider it a sign of retreat.
Organized left politics has been hollowed out and replaced with an online aesthetic that people can readily abuse for likes and shares.
The philosophy of praxis that Gramsci wrote of in his prison notebooks has given way to insular bickering that is increasingly detached from the very state of affairs we seek to abolish!

And no, this is not me agreeing with right wing complaints about cancel culture. To be clear.
"Cancel culture" is used by fascists who want to use slurs against Black, Latino and Jewish people.

When people attacked me in my labor Zionist phase, it just made me dig into my heels and get defensive about my views.
What actually changed my mind was watching documentaries and reading books and interacting with people online in good faith to have discussions.

Valid point.
However, one has to be open mined enough to learn. Not many are.

I had someone recently correct a reply where I joke-quoted a job recruiter saying that what they actually wanted was a slave, but they weren't allowed to actually say that in a job interview. Their reply was "*enslaved person".
A) doing that isn't helpful even when it isn't a joke post, it's not informing me of why that is the preferred term
B) even if I did know that that was now the preferred term, I *still* would have used "slave" in that context.
