I'm glad everyone had fun at the #nokings protect and they finally are getting out and doing at least something. I did not attend. I've been screaming about this issue for 2 decades now, and apathy was the name of the game for most people. I also worry its a bit of a check valve and wont convert into the boring tedious work essential to fix this, so it never happens again. Literally all of this could have been prevented. ALL OF THIS had people been paying attention!
The year after his second election as a convicted felon and sex offender, I'm still incredibly burnt out, exhausted, anxiety ridden and depressed about the American people in general. I marched in the women's march and the science march in 2017. I feel like nothing changed. No structures were built up for or by the citizenry to sustain any of the emotions we had at the marches.
Trump didn't lose by an organized effort, but more, people were sick of him, then had the memory of goldfish once things got better under Biden. Until we build things like sustainable community or political organizations that bring in the people using social events like the NRA and old democratic party, we are just going to see this cycle repeat every other election until there is none. Especially if we are able to vote Trump out without too much of a fight.
Once the election is over, the liberals and democrats go home and wait for 2-4 years. The right and powerful are ALWAYS being political. Unless we have that same level of continual urgency, in another 8 years many will be going, "hey how bad can it be?" and then the next year protesting the tyrant all over again after they realize they've seen this movie before they just memory holed it until it was too late.. #Trump

They leave it to parliaments to do the dirty work..
I also have the suspicion that the accusation of "authoritarianism" is only made when people disagree with the laws/decrees being made.
If no changes have been made to the constitution and other written-in-stone procedures, then surely Trump is just exposing weaknesses that have always been there but people didn't mind because they were generally used against people abroad and not domestically?
