The end of free art. Everyone has probably noticed that these are sad times. I don't understand hip-hop, but a member of the Irish band Kneecap was charged with a terrorist offense for displaying a pro-Palestine flag.
It's not about how you feel about it. Do I have to be afraid now? Does every artist have to be afraid when they provoke? When they expose hypocrisy? Isn't that our job if we don't just want to make feel-good entertainment music?
My solidarity goes out to Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh! Whoever forbids you to speak freely also forbids me! KILL! KILL! KILL! #freeart #freespeech #freethougts #freedom #solidarity #freegaza #freepalestine #music #art

The vast majority of countries recognise Palestine (147 of 193) so what is wrong with supporting them? They are an Irish band and Ireland supports Palestine. It is far from a shocking stance and certainly within the realm of free speech. But then within my country there are those that see the St George's Cross (the English flag) as offensive so I am far from surprised.

@Reverend Elvis Thank you. So it was a Hezbollah flag who are a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party rather than a Palestine flag representing a country. Changes things a lot. I do not like calling political parties "terrorists" given that supporting the political ethics does not mean supporting violence. For example the man cleaning the street in Gaza works for Hamas as they are the political group that run Gaza. If he is the chief road cleaner he becomes a Hamas leader and Israel will use that as a reason to murder a road cleaner. It is an entirely racist way to justify murdering Arabs. Hezbollah is the same. They do a lot of legitimate work but are all seen as being terrorists because a section are. On the other side we are talking about a rebel rock band that want to shock. They are not supporting terrorists, they are trying to shock. To get noticed.

I think they should be allowed to shock. That's important. I love punk music. I wouldn't sign all the lyrics, but it's about crossing boundaries to find new paths. The discussion is old. But art, and that's what this is, must be allowed to do much more than, for example, a politician. It's important to be for freedom of art. One of my most popular songs is called “Kill Kill Kill” - but I've never wanted to kill anyone and I don't call for it.

Yes, Elvis, I absolutely agree with you. Provocation must be allowed. I know that the police have sometimes gone into demonstrations because Lenin, Stalin and Mao flags were displayed there, but I'm not aware that the mere portrait had such a consequence. What is happening in Europe now is reminiscent of very, very dark times. Although I don't think that even then the display of certain symbols had such consequences, but was more a question of belonging to a certain group.
Oh yes, wasn't the Anifa sign once such a forbidden symbol? Today it's a fashion accessory.

@Reverend Elvis I agree wholeheartedly. Art is about expressing concepts and hopefully making people think. Which is good. I do support Palestine but not Hamas but that is my opinion and anyone else is entitled to thir own opinion. Free speech is essential for democracy and to stop people from expressing what they believe is an end to democracy. It is actions that are illegal, not opinions. I speak to many people of many opinions each day and even get involved in discussions with both Russian and Ukrainians together and they have valid opinions and we leave as friends yet I seldom see that in the west now. Even in the wilds of China the students could logically support their opinions whereas in the US they could not. I hate to say it but I do blame the internet as people now think in sound bites rather than books.

I live in eastern Germany and have many friends from Ukraine and Russia. This has completely changed my view on this topic. I feel the same way; I don't think either side is right, but we need to watch and listen and realize that things are much more complex than they appear on the surface. That's what I've learned.
And that goes for all these topics. I appreciate Diaspora, for example, because I can talk to so many people with different opinions here. Do I hear the truth? Probably not. But it's better than everything the world supposedly explains.
So thank you all for the conversation. I learned something new again 😀

Last week I was in Gdansk (Dansig). We could have had a drink together 😀 I used to live there 5 years ago but had to return to Blighty after Brexit. Arrived back in time for Covid.

Truth is subjective so no, you will never hear the truth, only a truth. I have lived in many countries but as far as Ukraine goes, when living in Azerbaijan I did not really like it and I was there for 2 years so I spent all my time on holiday in neighbouring countries. Favoured Georgia but liked Ukraine. So I still have good Ukrainian friends with different opinions. My friend Bogdan is from Luhansk and his parents were bombed for years whereas my friend Yuri is from north of Kiev and thinks very differently but they do not shout at each other and we sometimes are with a friend Pavel from Belgorod who works with Bogdan. They are just ordinary people. Politicians like wars but people prefer friendship. I was in Georgia when Russia came to visit so I have no liking for the Russian government (I ran back to Azerbaijan) but I have many good friends who are Russian and that is the point. People and governments are very different things. We judge other countries by their governments but we judge our own by our friends. Other people are doing the same. I have lived in Arab countries and 95% of people are great people but just like everywhere there are 5% who create a negative impression and all governments are evil. Iranian people are wonderful but I agree that the government are evil. We are taught to believe a lot of lies but all governments lie... no exceptions. Most people are decent.

The evil 1% deep state zionists want to hide the truth from everyone. If everyone joined together and told the truth it would be a waste of time censoring anyone because everyone would react. The important thing is unity but there are too many "sheeple" who believe the lies on the idiot box and mainstream media and they don't unite with those who are aware of the truth. Those who are aware of the truth should unite and wake up the"sheeple" and get everyone to unite against the evil satanic zionist liars who manipulate everyone and block our freedom!!
