I am manually re-following rather than transferring the account. I end up having to go through and "re-follow" anyway usually (having now done this 4 times). It was a good opportunity to trim my follows. I choosing only (mostly) people this time and dumping news and tech sites. I follow those on Bluesky and Mastodon. Don't need to repeat it on Friendica. Will clean up my "feed" considerably and let me see what I actually want to see - people!

So I've been planning to experiment with self hosting for a while. I mostly want to host my own Friendica (so I can have all the connectors I want), maybe Hubzilla, and probably Bonfire - a new modular platform under development. Realistically, I'm watching for the first/best Facebook alternative and getting to know it from the hosting side. I plan to start on a headless linux box in my basement. I think it will give me a sense of the bandwidth and storage needed for the average account. They will be closed servers (me only) for now. I may add a few close friends when I want to see how it scales.

Anyway, today I took the first step and payed for my domain name. I'm very happy with it. I think it can scale fine if I decide to switch to paid hosting and open up any platform(s) I decide to run. Probably won't get things up and public until April or May. I am excited to start experimenting!!!!
