Polish opposition proposes entry ban for migrants from Middle East and Africa
Poland’s main opposition party, the national-conservative Law and Justice (PiS), has proposed an entry ban for people from certain countries in the Middle East and Africa. It says this would help stop Germany’s practice of sending migrants who have illegally crossed the border back to Poland. The proposal comes amid renewed debate over how to tackle migration, with the Polish government on Tuesday announcing the reintroduction of controls on Poland’s borders with Germany and Lithuania in an effort to prevent the “uncontrolled flow of migrants”.
After Prime Minister Donald Tusk had announced the border controls, the head of PiS’s parliamentary caucus, Mariusz Błaszczak, said that the government’s actions were “too little, too late”.
“This crisis has been going on for months,” he continued. “This issue requires far-reaching action.”
Błaszczak said that PiS would submit a bill to parliament introducing a temporary ban on entry to Poland for third-country nationals from “specific countries outside Europe…whose citizens illegally cross borders”.
Previously, on Monday, PiS party leader Jarosław Kaczyński had called for an “immediate ban on entry to the territory of Poland for people from the Middle East and North Africa”.
PiS has not yet specified which Middle Eastern and African countries would be included in its proposed ban. It says they would be selected based on analysis of data showing which nationalities most often cross borders illegally or are transferred to Poland from Germany.
A government information campaign discouraging people from trying to illegally enter Poland was recently launched in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan and Egypt, countries from which Poland has identified the largest numbers of people crossing the border from Belarus.
Since 2021, tens of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers – mainly from Asia and Africa – have tried to enter Poland from Belarus, with the encouragement and assistance of the Belarusian authorities.
In response, Poland has heavily fortified its eastern border with physical barriers and electronic monitoring. The government also recently banned asylum claims by people crossing from Belarus. Those measures have led to a dramatic decline in the numbers entering via that route.
In his remarks on Tuesday, Błaszczak made clear, however, that PiS’s proposed entry ban was designed to address the issue that has recently caused most controversy, which is Germany’s policy of sending back to Poland thousands of migrants who crossed the Polish-German border illegally.
Many of those sent back are Ukrainians. Others are non-Europeans, often from Asia and Africa, who have either claimed asylum in Poland – and therefore must remain there while their applications are processed – or have simply passed through it after entering the EU irregularly.
“After the introduction of this [proposed] law, Polish border guards will be able to prevent citizens of these countries from entering our territory,” said Błaszczak. “So those who are today being transferred from Germany by the German authorities, or who are trying to cross from Germany to the Polish side, will not be able to do so.”
The migrant returns carried out by Germany take place under a combination of EU regulations, bilateral agreements with Poland, and the border controls that Berlin reintroduced in 2023. Earlier this year, Tusk declared that Poland may stop adhering to such agreements.
However, some Poles have sought to take matters into their own hands, organising self-declared “citizen patrols” – some of them hundreds strong – at the German border to monitor and prevent migrant returns.
Błaszczak said that PiS politicians will be visiting the German border to make clear that “we support the border defence movement”, which he described as “Polish patriots who took matters into their own hands when Donald Tusk’s state abdicated [its responsibilities]”.
He also pledged that the party “will provide support to those who are persecuted by the current authorities of our country” for undertaking such actions, reports the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
Earlier this week, Tusk and interior minister Tomasz Siemoniak criticised the actions of the citizen patrols, saying that they are disrupting the work of border officers and spreading false claims about the number and types of migrants being transferred by Germany.
I'm impressed by Rambo III for DOS
Rambo III for DOS genuinely surprised me.
I’d previously played the Commodore 64 version—a predictable top-down shooter with decent graphics for the old brown breadbox, but nothing remarkable.
The DOS version, released in 1989, really stands out. It supports VGA graphics and AdLib sound, delivering crisp colors and catchy music that were impressive for the time.
What blew me away, though, was the control options. Not only does it support keyboard and joystick, but you can also move and shoot using the mouse—a rarity for the platform back then. Even better, it actually works pretty well by the standards of the day.
Rambo III came out in many versions: arcade, Master System, Genesis. The computer versions are mostly similar, each carrying quirks unique to their platforms—you could find it on Atari ST, Amiga, MSX, C64, Amstrad CPC, and even ZX Spectrum.
The DOS release covers CGA, EGA, and VGA graphics modes plus a variety of sound options, offering a surprisingly eclectic experience. While critics favored the Genesis version, I think the DOS port holds its own. It’s more than playable and can deliver some solid fun.

Additional considerations apply to the use of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). RFE/RL should be used cautiously, if at all, for reporting published from the 1950s to the early 1970s, when RFE/RL had a documented relationship with the CIA.RFE/RL may be biased in some subject areas (particularly through omission of relevant, countervailing facts), and in those areas, it should be attributed in the article body. There is no consensus as to what subject areas require attribution. The scope of topics requiring attribution of RFE/RL should be decided on a case-by-case basis.
It hasn't been true for some time now and is generally found to be credible and fairly unbiased and RFA is seen in even a more positive light:
Radio Free Asia can be generally considered a reliable source. In particularly geopolitically charged areas, attribution of its point of view and funding by the U.S. government may be appropriate. Per the result of a 2021 RfC, editors have established that there is little reason to think RFA demonstrates some systematic inaccuracy, unreliability, or level of government co-option that precludes its use.And MBFC:
In contrast this is what RT looks like:

Documentation of Lemmy.ml's Extremism [Megathread]
Good job everyone blocking and boycotting .ml! It's having an effect, users are noticing and MAUs on their comms are falling!
And for anyone asking "Why are we boycotting/blocking lemmy.ml?" Here's a quick recap:
Lemmy.ml is an instance run by admins who are hardcore tankies and will enforce their ideology on their instance through various means from allowing (and pushing it themselves) propaganda (Such as Russia being justified in some way to invade Ukraine) and known propaganda outlets (Like RT) to removing content on their instance critical of their favored authoritarian regimes such as Russia or China and even banning users for such speech or speech critical of them if it's off their instance (Just like the Reddit mods of ol!).
If it was just some random instance it would have been defederated from long ago like the rest of the "Tankie Triad" (Hexbear and Lemmygrad), but they've positioned lemmy.ml as the "flagship" instance and abused that position and influence to become large enough to keep other instances from defederating from them.
Which I believe is harmful to the Lemmy-verse's overall growth and outside reputation. I have seen it come up before on Reddit threads (and other testimonials from people who came back and tried it again) that "They tried Lemmy but it was a bunch of tankies and went back to Reddit"
I don't know about you, but I'd prefer Lemmy to not end up with the reputation for being "Tankie Central " or even worse "Voat 2.0".
So if you haven't joined the boycott yet, join today and help us foster a better healthier Lemmy-verse!
You can take a look around here on !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works for documentation of it or checkout this list of curated documentation

I don't think it was on the support comm, but they did respond on a thread about it once on why they don't defed from them like they did the other 2.
It boiled down to 3 things: big comms, official Lemmy support comms and the fact the devs rolled out instance blocking tools
The 1st one, I'm hopefully solving with my cross-posting and calls for boycotting, the third one is by calling attention to the fact that it doesn't work as one would think. Pretty sure everyone thought block meant block when it was being discussed.

After 47 years in the US, Ice took this Iranian mother from her yard. Her family just wants her home
Kaitlynn Milne says her mother is usually always up first thing in the morning, hours before the rest of the family. She enjoys being productive in the quiet hours around sunrise. It’s an especially optimal time to do yard work, when the rest of her New Orleans neighborhood still sleeps and she can count on peacefully completing chores.Gardening and rearranging the shed is how an average morning would go for Mandonna “Donna” Kashanian, a 64-year-old Iranian mother, wife, home cook, parent-teacher association (PTA) member and lifelong community service volunteer.
“She always says: ‘I’ve already done most of my day before y’all even wake up,’ complaining at us,” said Kaitlynn, 32. It was always done with love, she says, as her mother adores taking care of others and would wake up every morning excited to do just that.
But the morning of Sunday, 22 June, didn’t go like every other morning. In the early hours, while her husband, Russell Milne, slept inside the house, Kashanian was approached in her yard by plainclothes men who identified themselves as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) agents.

Jeremy Corbyn hints at launch of new party as leftwing alternative to Labour
Jeremy Corbyn has hinted he could launch a political party alongside other leftwing independent MPs in an attempt to offer “an alternative” to Labour, before the next general election.Speaking on ITV’s Peston programme, the former Labour leader confirmed discussions were under way among the Independent Alliance group of MPs that he co-founded last year.
Asked directly whether they were preparing to form a new party, Corbyn did not rule it out. “That grouping [of independents] will come together, there will be an alternative,” he said.

thinking about someone I should not bother thinking about
Once upon a time, I was friends with a guy named Jim. A very, very few of you might know him. Almost all of you won’t.
I walked away some years ago, blocked him on the socials over his support for the fascist, because I said that the fascist’s promises absolutely, positively, literally required American concentration camps, and that’s what he was supporting by supporting the fascist, and I could not abide that…
…and yet, he carried on, saying I was a fool, and that none of it would ever happen.
(I asked him then why did he support someone he insisted was lying to him. I do not remember getting an answer, before I quit.)
So now that we have American concentration camps…
…and now that people with direct access to the fascist are talking about sending literally every American citizen of Latino heritage there to die…
(it will require more concentration camps than that, of course, but that’s a detail which makes no difference)
I wonder…
…has he yet been moved to repentance?
Or is he still a good and solid member of that wretched cult?
It’s immaterial now, of course. We are long past the point where the pebbles’ opinions matter, and crimes already done cannot be undone.
But once in a while, I think of it.
And for a moment – a pointless, irrelevant moment – I still wonder.

Windows machine running a Linux VM at 4K 240Hz
I don't know if this is common knowledge but I hadn't found anything on the web (for Windows specifically) that stated that this was possible.
I kinda badly want to fully switch to Linux in the short term but wanted to first properly test how different distros feel at these specs (and maybe try some basic gaming too); maybe someone that wants to do the same can find this post useful (I hope this is the right community to post to).
To do this I used QEMU, and had to edit the source code and recompile it to enable 240hz.
Forcing higher refresh rates is surprisingly not that hard, I only had to edit a single line of code (hw\display\edid-generate.c, line ~390, set '75000' to '240000').
So far Mint, Fedora and KDE Neon work perfectly at that refresh rate (after adjusting mouse input polling rates), then I added a couple other nice features like shared clipboard and mouse device toggling (I tested q2pro and it wouldn't work with absolute mouse coordinates, and relative mouse was a pain to use in normal desktop browsing, so I had to find a way to toggle them if I didn't want to reboot the VM every time).
This is my very first lemmy post (hi fedi!), I wrote this lengthy blog post detailing how I did everything, hopefully I'm allowed to post it here (reddit traumatized me with the blanket banning).

We Fled Kakuma to Escape Violence , Now We’re Being Forced Out Again with Nowhere to Go
cross-posted from: lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/2839030…
Hi friends,
My name is Cyara, and I’m a transgender refugee living in Gorom camp, South Sudan, along with other queer community members. We came here after fleeing severe persecution and violence in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya where many of us were harassed, attacked, and denied safety. We thought we would be safer in South Sudan, but here too we face discrimination, abuse, and daily threats. Then, on June 20th, the government gave us an eviction deadline: leave the camp or face prison. They gave us no plan, no support, just a deadline. That day came and passed. We are still stuck, scared, and exposed.
I know posts like this can feel overwhelming but please believe me when I say: this isn’t easy to write. I’m not trying to guilt anyone. I’m just desperate to get help for me and my sisters.
We are trying to raise $1500 USD to rent a shelter in Juba for 3 months, to house 8 of us while we try to find longer-term safety. We’ve raised $121 so far I’m grateful beyond words for that, but we’re still far from safety.
Please — if you can’t donate, just boost this post. Share it. Let people know we exist. That alone could save a life. Also please mods, my cause was really verified by Qaz. Please don’t take it down. I can still verify my situation

But off the top of my head I believe Voyager is rolling out PieFed support, but iirc it's still in beta
Bazzite 42 listed in June 2025 Steam Hardware Survey
cross-posted from: pawb.social/post/27451562
Seemingly for the first time, the Bazzite gaming-focused Linux distro has appeared on the Steam Hardware Survey. Well done to the Bazzite team for making such an amazing distro for gaming (and now just general usage as a while too)! Been my main choice for going on a year now for my general use distro, and I haven't looked back.

Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority strikes down 176-year-old abortion ban
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s liberal majority struck down the state’s 176-year-old abortion ban on Wednesday, ruling 4-3 that it was superseded by newer state laws regulating the procedure, including statutes that criminalize abortions only after a fetus can survive outside the womb. The ruling came as no surprise given that liberal justices control the court. One of them went so far as to promise to uphold abortion rights during her campaign two years ago, and they blasted the ban during oral arguments in November.

Squirrels jeopardize the strategic nuclear potential of the United States
The American Minot nuclear base in North Dakota has been threatened by an invasion of squirrels known to local personnel as "dacrates." These rodents, which have long been a problem, cause serious damage to infrastructure, spread diseases, and threaten the safety of military personnel and their families.
At the same time, the base recently received an 850 million dollar upgrade aimed at strengthening the US nuclear potential. Squirrels reproduce without control — natural predators have disappeared, and effective means of control cannot be used because of the risk to people, including children.
Thus, instead of demonstrating strength and technological superiority, one of the key US nuclear bases looks vulnerable to a pack of small but extremely annoying animals.

Google is only free if your time has no value
Sooo there's free software (“Everyone should be able to write open source software!”) and there's open source software (people programming their own computers for their own communities). Ideally, Neima should be able to program her computer to help her kids do their homework or for their sports club. So there's open source software that's written for the developers community, and there's open source software that's written for the GNOME community, which is polished and truly a delightful experience for new users: if for example you installed Linux Mint with Cinnamon, you'd connect to the wifi and probably be immediately greeted with a notification telling you that your printer has been added and is ready to go.
I'm not saying that Linux users should learn programming, especially if they don't know about e.g. GNU Guix, Skribe/Skribilo/Haunt, or SICP (that's directly referenced by the Haunt info pages – I promise you, starting a blog as an English speaker with a Skribe implementation and reading SICP once you get comfortable enough could get you started in months); but that of course, learning any field on such a platform as Stack Overflow would provide an absolutely stupid experience, whereas the ideal learning medium is books.
It isn't enough for Google to insert far-right suggestions in YouTube shorts; they've deliberately sabotaged features in their search engine to get us to generate more ads, and Google Scholar results are, by the way, the bottom of the barrel too. Compare queries results to "sex work" or "borderline disorder transgender" with those of HAL and wonder why there's a public distrust in science. More broadly, Google hinders our relationship to information, and we're both trading it for a far-right agenda.
The same is just as true for LaTeX: it's a great, intuitive language, provided that you read some good introduction on the topic. As a matter of fact, Maïeul Rouquette's French-speaking book is available for free on HAL.
I'm more and more fed up as I write that and I'm pretty sure it shows. You may totally use open source software, meant for the non-technical community of a graphical library, desktop environment, Linux distribution, and so forth. But if you really wanted to "learn Linux", please install any distro you're comfortable with and read some good book on whatever topic you want to work on.
Why are parts of application in a different language?
US contractors say their colleagues are firing live ammo as Palestinians seek food in Gaza
AP spoke to the two contractors for UG Solutions, an American outfit subcontracted to hire security personnel for the distribution sites. They said bullets, stun grenades and pepper spray were used at nearly every distribution, even if there was no threat. In one video, what appear to be heavily armed American security contractors at one of the sites in Gaza discuss how to disperse Palestinians nearby. One is heard saying he has arranged for a “show of force” by Israeli tanks.
“I don’t want this to be too aggressive,” he adds, “because this is calming down.” At that moment, bursts of gunfire erupt close by, at least 15 shots. “Whoo! Whoo!” one contractor yelps. “I think you hit one,” one says. Then comes a shout: “Hell, yeah, boy!”

Nanook is not inherently a racial slur. It means polar bear or “the master spirit of bear.”
Their instance is on Eskimo.com, which could be considered insensitive.
Just don’t watch “Nanook of the North” (1922), although it was some pretty interesting filmmaking for the time, it’s very racist.
If you feel strongly, the website has a phone number 😅
“Nanook” is a slur for northern indigenous people in the same way “Chan” is a slur for Chinese people. Sure, there might be some members of that demographic with that name, but using the term as a generalization for that demographic is derogatory in intent.
Using the term “Eskimo” in the instance name is problematic for at least two reasons.
- The term itself is considered problematic and derogatory for reasons I don't have time to go into here, but feel free to research why it’s under fire.
- I haven’t checked, but the admins are probably not part of the demographics that the term would refer to, so they’re not “reclaiming a slur” so to speak
It's unclear why a racist bigot would out themselves here.

GrapheneOS Organization Calls Out False Claims Made In European Countries By Media Outlets
European authoritarians and their enablers in the media are misrepresenting GrapheneOS and even Pixel phones as if they're something for criminals. GrapheneOS is opposed to the mass surveillance police state these people want to impose on everyone.xatakandroid.com/sociedad/cada…
There are ongoing coordinated attempts at misleading people about GrapheneOS and Signal in multiple European countries. A consistent pattern are completely unsubstantiated claims about exploits with no evidence. These are contradicted by actual evidence, leaks and their behavior.
GrapheneOS is not immune to exploitation, but the fearmongering done in these ongoing attacks on it is very clearly fabricated. They feel threatened enough by GrapheneOS to engage in coordinated attempts at convincing people that it's unable to protect their privacy and security.
GrapheneOS eliminates many classes of remotely exploitable vulnerabilities and makes the vast majority far harder to exploit. It even puts up a strong fight against attacks advanced forensic data extraction tools with physical access. See discuss.grapheneos.org/d/14344… for an example.
There's currently an example of one of these attacks on the project ongoing across Swedish forums and social media. This reached our forum at discuss.grapheneos.org/d/23535…. An account pretending to be just asking questions goes on to pretend to be an expert citing non-existent sources.
This same thing is currently ongoing across several Swedish forums and on social media. It's generally not in English which makes it inaccessible to the broader GrapheneOS and privacy community so they can get away with extraordinary, unsubstantiated claims much more easily.
GrapheneOS is not supposed to stop people installing malware and granting it invasive permission. It does provide alternatives to being coerced into granting invasive permissions by apps via our Storage Scopes, Contact Scopes and other permissions, but it's a user choice.
GrapheneOS similarly not supposed to prevent authorized access to data by someone with the PIN/password and access to the device. Rather, we provide far stronger protection against unauthorized access via exploit protections, 2-factor fingerprint unlock, duress PIN/password, etc.
Our features page at grapheneos.org/features provides an overview of how GrapheneOS improves privacy, security and other areas compared to the most secure Android devices running the stock OS. It's not immune to exploitation and cannot be. Products making that claim are scams.
Not being immune to exploitation doesn't mean it can be successfully exploited in a given real world scenario. It's significantly harder to develop and deploy an exploit successfully. It can be exploited, but it doesn't mean it is happening especially at scale or consistently.
Having far from perfect security does not mean real world attacks including sophisticated ones will be successful in practice. Don't fall for security nihilism propaganda. We'll keep working on advancing security for general purpose computing devices. It will keep getting better.

GrapheneOS Organization Commentary On False Claims About AOSP Privacy By ICEBlock App
bsky.app/profile/iceblock.app/…Apple stores which devices/users install which apps. They have the device IDs. US government could obtain a list of people who installed the app if a court authorized it. Not clear what they mean by having to store device IDs. Those IDs aren't accessible to Android apps.
ANDROID_ID is a per-app-per-profile random ID. Not clear why they would need it. Android has privacy-preserving hardware-based attestation if they're talking about making it harder to spoof a location. Can't prevent either iOS or Android users making false reports via attestation APIs regardless.
bsky.app/profile/iceblock.app/…
Making posts with inaccurate technical claims about Android doesn't inspire confidence. It's a closed source app with a closed source service fully under their control. Why is that the approach if their goal is helping people rather than monetizing interest in it?
bsky.app/profile/iceblock.app/…
Apple records which apps people install and requires an account to use their app store. Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) has comparable privacy to Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). However, iOS apps must use APNs for push while Android apps do not have to use FCM.
Android apps can implement their own push service or allow the user to choose a service via the UnifiedPush framework. Play Store has a policy of requiring FCM for most use cases for battery reasons but there are exceptions. Unlike iOS, Android allows installing apps from other app stores / sources.
ICEBlock app is very clearly misleading people about privacy and their safety. Apple has a list of which accounts/devices have installed the app. They will provide it to the US government if they receive a court order. FCM is also not less private than APNS and FCM doesn't work the way they claim.
iPhones have good overall privacy and security but Apple does collect telemetry, forces people to have accounts and knows which apps each user/device has installed. They do not have magical privacy and security properties. An app like this claiming iOS gives them 100% anonymity is very strange.
iOS has significantly worse support for VPNs than Android and requires using Apple services. Android exists without Google services and people can install apps from elsewhere. The mandatory or effectively mandatory services on Google Mobile Services devices and iOS have comparable privacy.

[Lost](?) Ouran High School Host Club Serbian dub
z.opnxng.com/fandubdb/wiki/%E6…
Only proof of its existence I can find is here, apparently it was formerly dubbed by Happy TV, which seemed to be a channel for airing childrens TV shows. I don't actually know if it's lost or not but I can't find it anywhere.
I'd say this is lost, while I can seemingly find other languages pretty easily, the Serbian dub specifically I've come up empty for as well
It's fairly common for a specific language of multi-language release content to be missing. Especially when it's outside of the mainstream languages like English, Spanish, Japanese etc.
I would suggest making a post over at forums.lostmediawiki.com/ as well to get more eyeballs on it
