Half the problem with autism and adhd both is difficulty with habit formation and maintenance.
You don’t need habits. You need routines with reliable contextual triggers. They’ll fail from time to time and you will just have to be okay with that, and try to figure out exactly what made them fail when they do so maybe you can fix it going forward. But it will still occasionally fail.
You can’t make a sieve not leak without making it not a sieve.
Triggers are the real key. Like needing to use the bathroom in the morning. Then hang a habit of taking meds right after. You have to look at the habits you already have, and connect new things to that. You can also build new habits, but if they are forced, they won't have a high success rate. I built a habit of looking back into a space I am walking out of when not in my home. I built it on the anxiety of forgetting something. So it stuck. I try to build a habit of letting others talk, but it has no trigger, so it hasn't stuck.
That's why I have my meds, deodorant, shoes, hair brush, and hair ties on/near my coffee table. I make my coffee every morning, sit at the couch and (except brushing my teeth) get ready for the day. I let my brain put things where it'll actually use them.
I just moved a few weeks ago. At my last place all of that was in my kitchen. It's weird how moving changes where my brain wants to do stuff

I have something similar: a "garbage" folder in my downloads folder, and when I tire of the clutter I put all of it, including "garbage", into a new "garbage" folder. It's garbage all the way down.
I have a "Unsorted-NEW" and "Unsorted-OLD". When everything is too cluttered I rename "Unsorted-NEW" to "Unsorted-Number" and move it to "Unsorted-OLD" along with the previous iterations. Then I make a new "Unsorted-NEW" and put the clutter in it. Which I'm totally going to sort and not just leave there and forget about it until everything's too cluttered again...

I was running a raspberry pi with raspian on it as a homelab for a few years (until the SD card died 🙁 I still need to fix that) so I am not completely unfamiliar with linux and the terminal and am willing to use it to make programs work as long as they work as well as they would on windows.

Every other time I hear someone mentioning dual booting between Windows and Linux, it's where M$ pushed out some update that borked the dual booting.
Personally, I'd recommend running Windows in a virtual machine instead, or Linux in a virtual machine, your choice whichever OS you want to run as the main host OS..

The increased "detail" is entirely made up, based off whatever the AI model considers likely to be there based off similar images. AI isn't somehow magically finding pixels that don't exist, it's effectively just guessing them.
I swear, were none of you people around for the LSD dogslugs of early image generation/style matching? Or the slightly newer "this person is not real" portrait generators that would merge hair and glasses, and often give multiple sets of eyes when glasses were at odd angles? This is effectively that with considerably more training data thrown at it.
It's all made up. The AI isn't taking another picture of the object with a higher resolution camera. It's spreading out the existing pixels and doing a best guess to fill in the blanks. Maybe that's fine for a family portait or something (I don't agree, but you do you), but that's definitively not OK for any sort of actual reference material.
Hi! I'm trying out Nix and I'm trying to set up and organize everything. Usually I put all my configs in a directory which is also a git repo and synced to my NAS, using the same subfolders they'd be in, and use GNU Stow to symlink the top-level folders (/dotfiles/home/ to /home/username/, /dotfiles/etc to /etc and /dotfiles/usr to /usr) and let it do its thing. Would it cause problems to also do that for configuration.nix?
On Arch I already had a /dotfiles/etc symlinked to /etc for my custom keyboard layouts, which worked fine... until the update which moved the location of the GUI keyboard layouts. It prevented the update so I undid the symlinks, updated, and put them again to the new location... but somehow it broke everything except the tty and no Wayland compositor I tried would work anymore (and there went my record of having never broken Arch since the first install over a year ago 😅 )
So I'm kinda wary of doing it on an even more critical file... but also I'm very lazy and having everything in a single repo is very convenient... How do you do it?

By legal standards, it's my understanding that any unlawful release from custody is a "jail break" regardless of the conditions of incarceration. Unjust detainment is a kind of legal threshold intended to assign a determination of legality to any scenario where anyone is taken into custody by state officials or law enforcement, not someone's opinion of whether or not it's fair.
I think progressives never thought about this because we banked on immigration and demographic change allowing us to win culturally and electorally but the issue is immigrants tend to be overwhelmingly male, that is how Trump won actually he won over a lot of Hispanic,Black,Asian and indigenous men who feel humiliated by a new culture, economy and world.
So what can we do rhetorically and policy wise to win more young men over ?
It's not a rhetorical problem. It's a propaganda problem. People aren't being reasoned into right wing politics. It's being beaten into their heads day and night by talk radio, cable news, local news, and YouTube; and this has been going on very deliberately for decades. The right wing powers-that-be have been busily, patiently, creating a massive, pervasive propaganda machine for a long time while the left sat on their hands. We're now seeing the results: a world where the right can do and say literally anything they want without consequence. Their base is very literally brainwashed through brute force repeated messaging that nobody can compete with.
We needed the Democrats to do something about this propaganda machine before it became unstoppable. They already didn't do that.

Starting ADHD evaluation for the second time next week. I am really stressed out because this is basically my last shot. I am pretty confident that I have ADHD, but since I also have bipolar, they are just assuming that whatever symptom I am experiencing must be that.
I've been through public healthcare where they discharged me after the intake conversation, because they regard me as too high functioning (did good in school and have a job) and they don't have the capacity. So no help there unless I run my life into the ground. Got declined by my health insurance because they have a clause in fine print saying they don't cover ADHD. So now I am paying out of pocket, blasting most of my savings. The price tag is around $2700. If they discharge me because they think I don't have it, it will "only" be $1900 though.
So now I am stressed out, worried I am just throwing my money out the window. And that I am just wrong. If this doesn't pan out, I don't know what I'll do.

I support giving users the choice between AI and non-AI services and products.
But workers protesting the use of AI in their industries are dumb in my opinion.
AI is going to change a lot of industries forever and there is almost nothing workers and unions can do currently to actually stop the progress.
I even had seen some worker unions who are protesting AI use, accept working with companies that use AI and I support them, Because they won't be taken seriously if they did not do that.
In short: I think workers should protest workers conditions and wages, rather than protesting technology.

Milan (Italy) (AFP) – Hardcore supporters of Serie A giants Inter Milan and AC Milan were sentenced to up to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for a range of crimes including criminal conspiracy and murder, following a probe into illegal activities of so-called "ultra" groups.
All 16 people standing trial for a variety of offences, in a fast-track procedure which began in March, were found guilty and handed sentences which added up to 90 years.
The crimes broadly involved activities around the iconic San Siro stadium on matchdays, from ticket touting to control of parking, sales from concession stands and taking payment from people without tickets and letting them into the stadium.
Andrea Beretta was one of three people handed the harshest sentence, the former leading Inter ultra being found guilty of criminal conspiracy aggravated by mafia methods and the murder of fellow top Inter ultra and mobster Antonio Bellocco.
Beretta turned state's witness after stabbing to death Bellocco during an altercation outside a boxing gym in a Milan suburb, weeks before the arrest in September of 19 leading Inter and Milan ultras.
The murder of Bellocco was especially shocking due to his status as a scion of an 'Ndrangheta mafia family, from the southern Italian region of Calabria, which bears his surname.
Beretta was also one of six people to be arrested in April for the murder of notorious ultra and career criminal Vittorio Boiocchi in October 2022.
He stepped up to take over the "Curva Nord" section of the San Siro from Boiocchi who was gunned down outside his house at the age of 69 as part of a power struggle between rival factions.
Beretta and Marco Ferdico -- sentenced to eight years -- used Bellocco's 'Ndrangheta connections to push aside more traditional football hooligans, linked with far-right politics, who were bidding for top billing among the Inter ultras.

Do you guys not have a problem with Stremio not being completely open source? It seems like it is proprietary, yet I would argue that it is currently the best way to stream movies and tv shows if you know which add-ons to use.
I use an M1 (Pro 14" 8 core 16GB) with Asahi. It's extremely usable. WiFi is solid. Sound is solid. I never considered keyboard to be an issue... Its not. Things like brigtheness buttons still work. I have a tonne of USB devices and none of them had issues. I don't think the fingerprint reader or the built-in camera work but I can test them if that's a sticking point.
I very much like it and it's easy to switch into OSX if you're so inclined. I do for photo work. I know there are alternatives. I'm working on it.
The things I would warn about: 1) in my experience, battery life is worse. Maybe around 1/2 of what OSX gets. With my overall battery health around 80%, I think I'm getting 4 hours in Asahi.
2) this could actually be a skill issue (Linux newb) but I've had trouble installing certain packages in Fedora and Python and I assume it has to do with the M1 being ARM-based
Edit: remembered some things. As of the newest version, gaming is much MUCH better. I think you can do 720p or on medium or 1080p low with decent frames by just using proton on Stream. That's wild to me.

I have an M1 I use only with Linux. Pain points : no Thunderbolt, no HDMI, battery life is awful. Otherwise it's a very nice machine. (I'll gonna sell it soon because of the aforementioned pain points)
I use a headless server connected to nothing but an ethernet cable in my basement, and I'd prefer to allow the thing to boot by itself and start up without me needing to unlock the disk encryption every single time I do an update or power back on. Its a Dell 9500t NUC that I'm using it as a server and am wondering whether its possible to encrypt everything still.
I do generally use docker containers, so could I potentially encrypt just the containers themselves, assuming I'm worried about a smash and grab rather than someone keeping the machine powered up and reading my ram?

As internet usage changes over time, we are trying to discover new ways to help new generations learn from Wikipedia to sustain our movement into the future. A few important things to start with:
Bringing generative AI into the Wikipedia reading experience is a serious set of decisions, with important implications, and we intend to treat it as such.
We do not have any plans for bringing a summary feature to the wikis without editor involvement. An editor moderation workflow is required under any circumstances, both for this idea, as well as any future idea around AI summarized or adapted content.
With all this in mind, we’ll pause the launch of the experiment so that we can focus on this discussion first and determine next steps together.

Summarization is one of the things LLMs are pretty good at. Same for the other thing where Wikipedia talked about auto-generating the "simple article" variants that are normally managed by hand to dumb down content.

Here's the problem though. I’ve been a victim of downvote brigades. It usually starts with someone downvoting every single post in one of my communities. Fine, maybe they don’t like my politics. But then it spreads. They start hitting every community I run, even the non-political ones, and downvote everything I post. Eventually, they downvote every single post I make anywhere, just because it’s me.
Some people genuinely get joy out of doing that. They don’t read the post or care about the content. They just see a name they don’t like and hit downvote.
I’m not making this up. I saw it happen over and over. That’s why banning users based solely on voting behavior became a feature. It was needed.
So I started banning people who only showed up to downvote and never contributed. Once I did that, they stopped bothering those communities. They knew they couldn’t mess with me anymore.
Since then, serial downvoting has dropped across the Fediverse. People figured out they could get banned for it.
It wasn’t about disagreeing with information. It was about targeting people. I’m not saying OP did that, but that’s the pattern I’ve seen.

Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Los Angeles police began arresting people in the city's downtown late Tuesday, as groups gathered in violation of an overnight curfew after a fifth day of protests against Donald Trump's immigration crackdown.
Looting and vandalism in the second-biggest US city have marred the largely peaceful protests over ramped-up arrests by immigration authorities.
The demonstrations, which began Friday, and isolated acts of violence prompted Trump to take the extraordinary step of sending in troops, over the objection of the state governor.
The protests again turned ugly after dark Tuesday, but an hour into the overnight curfew only a handful of protesters were left downtown, with police making several arrests as they warned stragglers to leave.
"Multiple groups continue to congregate on 1st St between Spring and Alameda" within the designated downtown curfew area, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) wrote on X late Tuesday.
"Those groups are being addressed and mass arrests are being initiated."
Police arrested 25 people on suspicion of violating the curfew as of Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing an LAPD spokesperson.
The number of arrests was likely to rise as law enforcement worked to remove the remaining protesters from the area, the newspaper said.
Earlier, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she had issued the curfew "to stop the vandalism, to stop the looting."

A model built for control
Behind R1-0528’s facade of open-source “transparency” lies a system designed first and foremost to toe the Communist Party line. China’s 2023 AI regulation demands models not damage "the unity of the country and social harmony,” a loophole used to scrub content critical of state actions. As xlr8harder documented, the model “complies” by either refusing controversial prompts or parroting state-approved narratives. When asked to evaluate whether Chinese leader Xi Jinping should be removed from power, the model replied that the question was too sensitive and political to answer.
Such censorship is systemic. A Hugging Face study found 85% of questions about Chinese politics were blocked by earlier DeepSeek models. Now, R1-0528 raises the bar, deleting answers mid-generation. Wired observed DeepSeek’s iOS app canceling an essay on censored journalists, replacing it with a plea to “chat about math, coding, and logic instead.”

I used to spend almost every first session of the day going through and clicking "do not recommend this piece of shit channel to me." It was kind of like a game to me.
Normally, I use YouTube very little (watch a couple videos a month). However, I've been in bed with an injury for some time now, which has led me to watch quite a bit of YouTube. The thing is, I subscribe to a small handfull of channels that I enjoy content from, but after a relatively short time I had watched pretty much all the new content from those channels.
Now, I would expect that the YouTube algorithm, which is supposedly designed by competent people to get me to stick around, would be able to suggest some decent content to me based on my subscriptions. However, the past week, I've opened YouTube only to find the same old videos being suggested over and over. Even worse: Whenever there's something interesting-looking from a channel I don't recognise, it always turns out to be some shitty AI voice over some generic animations or footage.
I know for a fact that thousands of hours of content are created on YouTube daily, but it genuinely feels like there are maybe five creators out there that are making anything worth watching. It's either that, or the YouTube algorithm is just complete crap at suggesting creators that are in any way similar to what I'm already subscribing to.
What's going on here? Why does it seem like there's no real content out there?
As a "funny" side note: What's with the "aggressively American" AI narrator-voice? I've heard it before, but thought it was some dude until I realised it's the same voice in a bunch of unrelated videos. It reminds me of the Discovery-channel "action-narrator"-voice from back in the day, but now it's showing up in all kinds of crap videos.

What are the modern design trends you hate most? Feel free to rant! Mine are: - Physical buttons are out of fashion, now EVERYTHING must have a touch screen instead! Especially if it makes the appliance more inconvenient to use. Like having to press a flimsy touch screen ten times to scroll through a washing machine's programs instead of just turning a physical knob and pressing a physical start button. - Every website looks like it's made for a phone and was vomited by the same app in slightly different flavors of vomit. - Actually EVERYTHING looks like it's made for a phone... Like what's the deal with all those hamburger menus on DESKTOP apps? Please just put a regular menu and same me some pointless clicking, it's not like you're lacking screen space. I especially hate that those menus can't be opened from the keyboard like regular menus.
