Our TROM.tf server's diskspace is getting kinda full. We have a ton of services so this is to be expected. We are trying to be more restrictive with our Peertube instance so that we may be able to remove more content that does not fit the thematic. When we reach 80% diskspace full we will need to do something about it.
We can migrate our Peertube storage to an object storage. Maybe we will do a campaign to raise the funds for that. May be as low as 250 Euros for a year of 2TB storage. That is twice as much as we have for Peertube right now. And we can free up some space on the server for Nextcloud and other services. Right now Peertube takes up about 70% of the storage on the server.

Imagine for a moment that there was this group of people in the world, screaming that the ice is melting and the sea levels are rising. They scream and scream how coastlines will be under water in 100 years time. "We need to stop the ice melting!" their slogans say. "We need more political will to stop the melting!" they are screaming.
But then some weirdo comes and tells them...."You know that the ice melting and its impacts, are because of climate change...". He is quickly dismissed. The Ice Melting Cult marches forward, too blind to see that ice melting is just a symptom of a greater problem.
Well, this is what we are confronting nowadays via projects like TROM. The world is screaming "climate change", others say "the soil is being destroyed", some say "corruption is the problem". Plastic, waste, slavery, inequality. A LOT. But what they fail to see is that all of these are symptoms. Symptoms of trade.
Take climate change. The reason humans pollute so much and can't seem to change and move to renewables, is that...well...they have to trade. The fossil fuel industry is so huge in this trade game, that they can influence politics. Politics is a bunch of people who get a lot of money from being in those places. The other humans are too busy trading their life away to get access even to their basic needs, so what can they do. Everyone is in a race to trade, and in the process they are either destroyers of the environment (think big corporations), or numb zombies who can't even grasp these issues or do anything about them (think most workers).
So we are impotent to fix climate change simply because this trade based society does not allow it. It incentivizes humans to profit more, be mindless, consumers, etc.. Even if we switched to renewable energies tomorrow, these incentives will make humans create more and more waste, pollution, suffering, destroy the environment, and so forth. Pointless.
And so, to all of those who do not see this trade based society as the originators of most of today's problems, I am calling you out because you are in the Ice Melting Cult. And you have to wake up. Else we are all fucked. Thank you!

Humans spend way too much time and energy trying to find some bio-chemical reason for behavior in all kinds of creatures, including humans, yet so far nothing. Of course. Look at the environment! It is the best predictor by far for all species.

Many people believe a fat myth of today's world, that capitalism (this trade-based system) is creating diversity. Look at how many chocolates there are, cars, gadgets, software, etc.. But this is a myth. The diversity is in the package/wrapper and not the product itself. Most phones are the same, nothing new for "new releases". Cars brought almost no advantage to transportation overall for the past decades. Products in the supermarket taste quite the same between brands, and clothes are recycled fashion trends. Movies and books are remakes or copy cats of whatever sells best. And so on.
Anyway, here is a search engine we made to showcase how 175 companies own pretty much everything in this world tromsite.com/tbf/
But I want to focus on 1 particular domain: software.
Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, VK, and maybe 3-4 more, are the ones that are the most used in the world. They do not communicate with each other and are very limited in terms of functionality. It means you choose one or another, or a bunch of them and manage them separately. They are trade-based platforms (you trade your data, currency, attention to them). Full of ads, full of censorship, full of crap overall.
On the other hand the Fediverse is a network of such platforms: Friendica, Mastodon, Peertube, Pixelfed, Funkwhale, and so forth. Look at the diversity here fediverse.party/en/miscellaneo… - these are made by different organizations and enabled by different people. A ton of diversity in terms of options.
These are video platforms, blog platforms, photo sharing platforms, platforms for musicians, live streaming, events, you name it. And all communicate with each other. If some organization has an account with Peertube (video platform) I can follow and interact with them from my social platform Friendica. How amazing! If I have a Peertube account and a Friendica one, I can easily setup so that when I post on Peertube a video, it goes on my Friendica too, as a post. The options are very diverse.
This "fediverse" is created not to be traded but to be shared. You will not find ads on these platforms (at least not on the vast majority of them), or data collection or any of that crap.
The MacOS and Windows vs Linux is yet another example of how diversity is actually achieved when humans do not sell their stuff and themselves, when you have a community of people who share their work and ideas. Linux comes in so many flavors for so many needs and wants. Look at this:
So if you look at software overall, the "capitalism" world, which is the trade-based world in which people make software to trade it (for data, attention, currency, etc.) is like a handful of options. But when the software is created for the sake of creating it and is shared and anyone can copy these, modify, redistribute, as trade-free, then real diversity is created and a better environment emerges overall.
We should take the software example and try to provide other goods/services in the same manner. But to do that we have to decouple humans from the trade-based society. At least when it comes to their basic needs. Else no one can have the time to engage in such things. Software is easy to create and maintain from the comfort of your home and in your space time, but is difficult when it comes to food or other goods and services. In any case there is still and abundance of such trade-free goods/services out there as we showcase here directory.trade-free.org/. But this is not enough.
So. If we want to create a wonderful society, we first have to decouple humans from this trade-based society by at least providing them with their basic needs as trade-free. That creates a good soil for the emergence of lots of trade-free goods/services, in a positive feedback loop. Imagine how much good we can create in this world. Imagine how much real diversity. Imagine how wonderful this could be.

These days we have spent some time with our friend @Guillaume . He followed TROM for some 10 years now and wanted to meet us: @Tio , @Sasha and @Georgi .
It feels so real to meet humans. Humans who are aware of the world we have discovered through science, and the stupidity and cruelty of our society. For the first time in many years, our Patreon monthly donations have dropped under 200 dollars a month. This is of course not sustainable for TROM. Unfortunately the financial support for TROM and all of its projects has dropped so much that we cannot continue to rely on it. Of course, every donation counts in a way or another, but we will need to find other ways to support this project. We have a ton of tools, a new big documentary coming out, and more books in the pipeline. But since all that we do is trade-free, we have no place in this society so we rely 100% on the kindness of others to support us.
Unfortunately this has become impossible over the past 2 or so years. But we do not know what the solution can be. Asking for support is perhaps the only power we have right now.
Our materials and tools will always be trade-free, or will not be at all. It is a cruel world we live in, where humans have no chances of doing anything good, unless they trade that. And that makes it not-so-good.

Yeah well....climate change, a problem created by? Trade of course. The fact that humans are forced and incentivized to trade at all costs. Else they can die in this system. This awful incentive creates huge consumption needs. Thus making humans create new phones every week, same ones, but different styles. Millions of cars each year - same cars, different colors. All kinds of useless shit for the sake of trading this for that.
Now to make all of this shit humans need to use energy. And a cheap way is to grab the dead biological matter from the earth's crust, and burn it. And they are pretty good at that. And that puts lots of unwanted gasses (molecules) into the atmosphere. Not to mention the forests that are cut, the biodiversity loss, the waste that is created for the sake of making more shit to be able to trade it.
Of course humans now have the means to use renewable energies instead of dead animals and plants, so they won't put those bad molecules into the air. But for one big companies (clusters of humans) depend on trading the dead biomass and they are quite powerful. You can't simply push them aside. Same is for the jobs that are created because of this industry and so forth. Second, even if we are to do it right now, there will be a huge issue in terms of other sorts of pollution (hello batteries!) that come as a cost for our insane consuming society, due to its trade nature.
Now...this is never going to be solved even if it is solved. The immense plastic pollution, nukes and the possibility of a WW3, the biodiversity loss, the threat of an asteroid hitting Earth and humans not being even remotely prepared for that; the forever chemicals and so much pollution and waste....these are growing issues that will dwarf the climate change problem in the future.
Wake up humans! You need to realize that it is the structure of your society that's at fault. The fact that you, humans, still think that everyone on your planet has to trade even for being allowed to live on this planet. You have transformed your own kind into reckless and mindless monsters that all they want is to trade this for that.
And no renewable energies will change the nature of this game. To think that renewable energies are going to fix these massive and global issues, is like asking a rapist to use condoms next time he rapes someone. #tromlive

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres did not mince words in a news conference Monday morning, calling this latest report a “litany of broken climate promises” and a “file of shame cataloging the empty pledges” that have put the planet on a “fast track to climate disaster.” He accused some government and business leaders of “lying” as they say one thing, but do another when it comes to meeting climate goals.
Another consequence of the trade-based society - non-stop gaslighting and lies. The Profit always prevails. The same way huge arms exporters continue to sell the weaponry to other countries until they "suddenly" start a war or a terror, the most pollute-high companies will continue to trade and to destroy our environment until the situation reaches all the extreme limits and some kind of catastrophy really occurs.

Yesterday my family got 2.200 Euros withdrew from their bank account. By some "name". Search online, go to the bank, and find out it is the government. Or at least a gov institution. The bank sends you home because they can't tell you why that is. You are home, confused. What to do? Ask around....or ask a lawyer. Ok, fine, ask a lawyer. They charge you. They say the money was withdrew because of a fine that likely you didn't pay in time.
What?!
Go to another gov institution where the lawyer sends you. They say: "Yeah, you got 2 speed tickets last year and you did not pay in time!". But my family did not receive any notification....
Go to the police, dig deeper by yourself. Find out that when we bought our car, years ago, they failed to add an address to the car. By "they" I mean the authorities in charge of that. So when the police caught us "breaking" the law, via automated radars a year ago, they looked for the plate number then they found out the name of the owner of the car (my father), and associated that name with the address my father had on its Spanish identity card (he is a resident here in Spain). Documents that were made 15 years ago. So they sent the notifications to that old address....We live in a tourist town where it is almost impossible to rent a place, so we had to move 4 or so times for all sorts of reasons. For the past 10 years we have the same address tho. Same address that we had when we bought the car...
Also, taxes and all that for the car, come to our current address. But not the fine it seems....Weird and infuriating.
So yeah, the system failed to let us known that we need to pay a fine, and since we "delayed" a year with the payment, they decided to directly charge my father's bank account. With over 2.200 Euros. On top of the fines, they fined him for not having an address associated with the car....that was the reason why we did not get any notification about the fine in the first place, and is something that the institution doing the papers when we bought the car was responsible for.
In all, us as human beings, were fined 2.200 Euros, more than we could save in months and months, for the simple fact that the system made an error and could not notify us of a fine we got a year ago.
And that's representative of this society we live in. The fault is always on the individuals. Put the blame on them! And this way the system seems like it is working, because every system's failure, is in fact seen as the individual's failure.
And to do justice for yourself.... how can you do it? Well...hire another human called a "lawyer". And good luck if you are poor because you won't be able to hire anyone. "Justice" comes at a price in this trade system. A human life comes at a cost. Everything has a price, but no value.

Human: Probably because they want to make me drive more carefully....keep the roads safer!?
Alien: So they hope that punishing you will stop you from speeding up?
Human: Probably...although I am sure I will forget about this in the future + when I am stressed and not paying attention....I do not think this can work in the long run....
Alien: Hold on! If they want to make transportation safer why not create a safe public transport system? Allowing everyone to have and drive a car, and buy more and more every year, to pollute, to consume, to drive for hours and hours, to waste....this is insanity squared.

And it is....it is insane. We will never ever change anything in this society if we do not see where the problems come from. To beat and punish people for the "bad" behaviors that they exhibit, when these behaviors come from the environment, is as pointless as trying to stop the clouds from raining. The success is almost nonexistent.
If we want less problems, we need to fix the society. Not to punish anyone. To the contrary, we have to help people. Take the above situation, none of us wanted to do anything bad. And yet we are slapped very hard by the society. What is the outcome of that? If you take 2k Euros form my bank account, especially when it was not my fault for such a sum of money, then you make me poor and prone to steal and cheat. Can't you see that!?
I struggle to push saner thoughts via TROM, but the society is at war with me. And with anyone else that refuses to, or cannot trade. Because trade is the blood of this society keeping it alive and insane.

This idea of punishing humans in order to change their behavior is both primitive and inefficient. Not to mention inhumane.

We now have our own instance of Yacy. Yacy is a proper peer to peer search engine. You see, there are only a few search engines out there, maybe less than 10, and google dominates them all. Only google, microsoft, and a few others, can crawl the internet and provide relevant search results. They are giants and have big and fluffy servers.
We already provide a trade-free search engine at search.trom.tf - what this does is to use google and the like, to search whatever you want, and remove the trackers and ads, so you can see the results in a trade-free manner. But of course we rely 100% on other search engines. Not anymore!
With Yacy our server does its own indexing. It searchers on websites by itself. Thus decoupling it from any other search engine. It communicates with other Yacy servers/peers so together we can build a huge and decentralized search engine. But Yacy on its own is still limited. There are trillions and trillions of webpages out there. Ours will be able to index millions. This is why we have integrated it with search.trom.tf. And so, now when you search on search.trom.tf you'll also get results from our own search engine, Yacy.
The great part about is is that we are prioritizing the indexing of relevant websites, from tromsite.com to videoneat.com or directory.trade-free.org, or sources from tromnews.com. So that the first results will be a LOT more relevant.

Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (5.15.2) with this library (5.15.3)
This is the error. To fix it simply go to Add/Remove Software, click the top right gear icon and refresh the database. After that reinstall the package qt5-styleplugins. Search for it, click it, then click reinstall. Should fix it.
Recently the people behind mate-HUD, the HUD we use for TROMjaro, pushed an update that seems to force an internal theme to be used. This theme is not that good at all, and makes it less functional. See more here github.com/ubuntu-mate/mate-hu…
We decided to not update it for now, until we can fix this ourselves. So we recommend you do not upgrade it from the AUR.

notes.trom.tf will be removed from out TROM.tf services. It is already removed from the front page but we will keep it alive for at least a few more months in case people are still using it. Why the removal?
1. This is an open source project by some people who are also making money out of it. This pushes them to add artificial barriers. Trade, as you know, creates these situations. In order to properly use this Notes app one has to set it up manually. It used to be a simple 2-3 steps process. But now, in order to add all of their "premium" yet open source extensions, so you can access them for free (basically in order to use this app properly) one has to do some 15-20 steps to set it all up. They made it more difficult for no reasons other than, perhaps, trading your currency to them in order to "unlock" all of these features.
Basically this app became littered with "buy this, buy that" buttons, and we cannot allow such perversions on TROM.tf.
2. We think that it is best to keep your notes locally and not rely on any server. Imagine if that server does not work anymore, and you don't have access to your notes. Here you can find a lot of trade-free note taking applications tromjaro.com/apps/ - We especially recommend Zettlr.
That being said, if you use notes.trom.tf please save your notes to another app. #tromlive

Usually FOSS programs are not so pushy about these things, so its sad to see more services becoming like this.......
I can't really blame them 'cause in this trade based society they are forced to make money to even survive.

Some may argue that trade is a great tool for deescalating big conflicts like it is the case in Ukraine. Lots of tribes are imposing trading sanctions to Russia in order to make Russia stop the aggression towards Ukraine and end the war. So far it has not stopped the aggression but hopefully it will.
So, is trade, in the end, a good tool to keep war at bay?
Well, one has to wonder why has Russia been able to be aggressive with Ukraine in the first place. They have a huge army, but Europe also depends on them trade-wise. Quite a lot in terms on energy supply. So one can definitely argue that Russia used trade as a way to grow its aggression because it knew that Europe fears to intervene since they will lose in the game of trade if they did. Russia may as well have used (and they did use) trade as a way to gain aggression towards Ukraine for the past 8 or so years. Europe only intervened when it got threatened.
If anything trade allows for dictators to raise to power and maintain it. To abuse others and to enslave their own. And yes, at times trade can be used to minimize or stop the conflict, but the conflict may have been caused by trade itself. Like India seems to be very quiet and reluctant to accuse Russia's actions. They also import some 50% of their total armament from Russia for the past 4 or so years (source). So it is likely that trade makes a massive tribe like India do what Europe did in the beginning of the conflict: abstain. And since the conflict doesn't pose a threat to India, they keep on abstaining.
One can also argue that USA also has a lot to gain from going against Russia with the sanctions, since USA can take over the energy market in Europe if Russia gets kicked out.
Imagine this: if Europe had no trade agreements with Russia, then why would Europe let this situation escalate so much before taking some measures? They would probably have helped Ukraine much sooner with all kinds of assistance, military or humanitarian.
So keep these in mind, because the situation is never as black and white as it appears in the media.
If the Russian soldiers were not forced to trade their freedom (go to the army then to war, else you go to jail) then who would have wanted to join the army and go kill others? A lot less for sure. Maybe no one would.
If Russians (and not only) had their basic needs met as trade-free, so food, shelter, healthcare, freedom and so forth, then they could have had a choice and not join the military. But then you threaten them to get their food, shelter and freedom away if they do not join, so they have little to no choice.
But the bottom line is that trade is the origin of MOST problems, not all problems. So even if trade played no negative role in the current conflict, and can be used to avoid a WW3, then it still does not chnage the fact that trade pushes people to enslave, pollute, destroy, and so forth. On a global scale.
Also, what if instead of Europe and USA and others pumping weapons of mass destruction into Ukraine and into defending themselves, attacked the situation with solutions and built more homes, created more food, better energy sources, and so forth, so that they lure in people from Russia to join them, rather than kill them. To come and have a good life, without trading anything in return. To focus on informing people that we are all one species and we are taking care of each other. But perhaps those who trade weapons have a great incentive to lure in politicians into spending more on weapons and sending them to the conflict zone....
So, you want to end this war? Give all Russians free EU membership/access and trade-free access to accommodation, healthcare, food and their basic needs, and perhaps they will drop their weapons because why would they want to fight anymore?
It is true that all sorts of distorted values come into mix when such conflicts are happening, but they usually are a mere layer of sugar on top of a big cake, and the cake is the trade based system we live in. And whatever is on top of it, it is affected by it. That we should not brush aside.

In 2003 the USA with a few friends like UK, Australia and Poland decided to invade Iraq. Their reason for the invasion was that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. It was not true and they kinda knew that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality…

The USA and its friends were not punished. No sanctions, nothing. Today Russia seems to engage in exactly the same manner. They are severely punished.
The history is full of such crimes conducted by tribes.
This goes to show the "double-standard" of our world. On top of this, we shall not forget that crimes and atrocities do not only happen in wars, but everywhere else. Slavery and coercion, draconian laws, the utter destruction of the biodiversity on Earth, the forever-chemicals, the plastic, the pollution. The hunger and starvation, the inability to access medical care unless you have some imaginary papers. All of that.
Where is the world united against these atrocities?
For sure, we need to act quickly to immediate threads like it is the case with Russia. But we need a reminder about how this world truly is.
This is a recent photo from the current war in Ukraine. This is what Russia is doing. This is the brutality and reality of war. Take a deep look. Everyone should be exposed to these events via such direct means, not just numbers and statistics. But the reality of it:
If the world thinks that severely punishing Russia for these atrocities is a necessary, good and united act, then we should do the same for any such acts, performed by any other tribe. And we should do the same for the other atrocities too. Else this is hypocrisy.
So let's see when they are going after the billionaires, the companies that create so much suffering, the profit motive itself; hell, go after trade and eliminate the need for it. Let's see...

Putin is not a "psychopath". It is the result of his environment. And to solely blame him, is the old "beheading the king" approach.
Blaming people, corporations, or governments, is a dead end. We will never understand what makes those humans, or human groups, do whatever they do. Protection from them, in case of aggression, could be necessary. But stopping at that is foolish.
How about we start to inform the world that we are one species? No Ukrainians, no Russians, no Americans, no Europeans and so forth. Then how about we provide a basic life for all humans? Give them their basic needs as trade free. This way you create a good and fertile soil for calm, relaxed, and educated minds that can take better decisions and not be coerced so easily.
Imagine all of these soldiers, going out there feeding the world, building houses for those in need, provide medical care. Then why would anyone want to go to war? And with whom?
We are one species, one planet, one human race. We face the same problems, we have the same challenges. We need to tell these to everyone. Wake them the fuck up! Let's help each other....
Else we are fucked. There will be more Hitlers, more Putins, more dictators and kings. And these are just one kind. USA, EU, and the rest, with their leaders, are also destructive, aggressive, and abusive. A bad soil is what we have, and weeds are growing instead of flowers.
Change the soil.

Do not forget that there is no democracy out there. No matter if it is USA, EU, Russia, they are all as far from democracy as Andromeda galaxy is from us. Humans "elect" a few others, in questionable ways, and then the few others take whatever decisions they want.
Have Russian creatures voted for this war? Was it a democratic decision? How about the American creatures, did they vote to go to Iraq or Vietnam and massacre those people? None voted.
Democracy is a myth, a ridiculous idea that has nothing to do with how anything is organized on this planet, or should be organized perhaps. Profit, birthed by trade, is a lot more of an influencer than anything else.
And so, if you get angry at Russia, do not forget that are not the Russians attacking anyone, but a handful of powerful people. Also do not forget that USA, EU, and the rest of the world, share the same bloody hands, but yet again it is not the people, but a handful few.
We cannot resolve conflict with conflict in the long run. Sure, it may be necessary to act aggressively if you are attacked, in order to protect yourself, but if there is no plan, no understanding, no approach at how to prevent such situations, your solution is momentary at best.
We need weapons of mass-helping rather than mass-killing. So that we create a global society of humans, who have free time to educate themselves, think, learn, create relationships, research, be creative, help each other. The only way out, long term, is to attack the world with solutions. To move beyond this mass-trading society. To free men from trade. To free the world from its effects.
War is not about who is right, but about who is left.

Improvements/Changes:
Sorry about that. The latest ISO only used the latest kernel (515) for the live ISO. We fixed it now. To migrate to kernel515 you have to do it via Add/Remove Software. Via the Kernel Settings may fail due to how we setup the automatic backups.
So.
Open Add/Remove software and search for linux515 and linux515-headers. Make sure you select them from Repositories. Select and install. Reboot your computer. That should be it. You can check in the Kernel Settings if you are using the 515 one:
If you do not use it, reboot your computer and when you computer starts keep on pressing Shift until you see a TROMjaro menu. Select the Advanced options and then select the 515 kernels. That’s all.
The app is called Zeit and it is very useful. Imagine you want to tell you computer to open a certain app at a certain time, or any command or script. Now this app makes it so easy.
You can find it in the Settings Manager.
In a new tab write about:config and press enter. Accept the risk and continue. Then paste:browser.contentblocking.report.hide_vpn_banner and click the right button to make it true.
