Is there such a thing as a super easy/cheap way to rip a vinyl record? I have a pretty basic turntable (Pro-Ject Essential II) without a USB output, my speakers (Kanto YU4) have a built-in preamp but also no USB output (they only have a subwoofer output). I don't need high quality.
if you really don't need high quality, and have a desktop computer lying around, you can use an aux cord to connect the vinyl output to a "Line In" port on your soundcard (like you usually have a blue, green, and pink port where .. i think the pink?... is usually line in. then you can use something free and simple like audacity to record. i would play around with the Line In gain as well as the output volume of the turntable to try to find a spot that's not too distorted.
there's a chance you have such a port on there... but most laptops from the last 20 years don't 🙁 in which case you'll need some sort of usb/thunderbolt soundcard, depending on your laptop's available ports. the good news, is this will probably get you better quality. don't know how important this project is to, e.g. if you're willing to put some money into it, but a cheap audio soundcard can be grabbed on the used market for well below $100. Look up "focusrite scarlett 2i2" on ebay or such a thing. Even the first gen should be plenty to do the job. You will also need to invest in a Y-cable (something to split your stereo aux output into two separate 1/4" jacks). otherwise... if you have any musician friends in your meatspace life, they probably have these things lying around and can help you with your endeavor.

@mdione well you nailed it. so i have to go read on partition tables and why MBR eats a ton of space and GPT doesn't. until then... the disks are intended to be part of a RAID 5 array... will using a GPT partition table make any difference in that application?
not at all, unless you want to also make them bootable for oldish HW that does not support GPT tables. Anything with UEFI and non bootable situations should be fine.
