Over twenty years ago I helped build a public wood-fired bread oven in Parc Sans Nom in the plateau/mile-end. That's the park next to the van horne overpass/skatepark under the bridge. We didn't ask permission. We built it from bricks we pulled out of a dumpster. We flagged down a concrete truck to get the slab poured. We had a pizza party or a few. We formed a non-profit and the city fought us tooth and nail til we had to eventually lock it up. We had multiple back and forths and met all their demands until they literally wanted us to install a 3 storey chimney on this tiny little bread oven. It obviously wasn't a feasible solution and said if we fired it up again we would be heavily fined. They tore it down and the little mounds of grass in the park to this day cover the remnants of our old bread oven. This was one of my first lessons in Montreal about the inefficacy and absolute batshit bullshit bureaucracy that keeps public grassroots projects from being successful. The government doesn't have your interests in mind, they never will, so do what you want and build whatever community projects you want and ask questions later. It will work, or it won't, but you'll do it and that's more than most will do. This is the Montreal I know and will continue to keep alive.

As it turns out, even people with chainsaws have to eat, so I managed to do something else until lunch and then they shut up while I could finish.
I actually got more done than expected. This is the first time recording my own vocals... well, it's the first time I've really tried to sing. I was not as shocked as expected at the outcome.
