Zwei Unterkunftsbaracken wurden ursprünglich zur Unterbringung von Zwangsarbeitenden aus Osteuropa errichtet, sie wurden aber bald durch anderen Nationen belegt. Das Lager wurde von der Genschow AG, einer Tochterfirma der IG Farben betrieben.
Hier waren zunächst jüdische Zeangsarbeiter:innen beschäftigt. Nach der sog. "Fabrikaktion", durch die fast alle Menschen nach Auschwitz deportiert wurden, beschäftigte Genschow Zivile Zwangsarbeiter:innen aus ganz Europa. Die Lebensbedingungen waren schlecht. Der niederländische Zwangsarbeiter Wim Stevens führte darüber Tagebuch.
Im Februar 1945 starben über 40 Zwangsarbeiter:innen bei Luftangriffen auf die Fabrik und das Lager im Plänterwald. Sie waren den Angriffen schutzlos ausgeliefert und gleichzeitig waren diese die einzige Hoffnung.
Die AEG mietete noch im März 1945 das "Große Eierhäuschen", um zerstörte Lager an anderer Stelle zu ersetzen. Hierbei handelt es sich nicht um das noch stehende Eierhäuschen. Es gab mehrere Eierhäuser im Treptower Park und Plänterwald.
Wim Stevens spricht von einem Café, in dem Zwangsarbeiter:innen hier untergebracht waren. Es kann sich aber auch um einen anderen Ort handeln. Eventuell waren im verbliebenen Eierhäuschen Wehrmachtssoldaten untergebracht, um die Verteidigungsstellung entlang der Spree auszubauen.
Thomas Irmer konnte 40 weitere Namen von Zwangsarbeiter:innen, die am Eierhäuschen untergebracht ausfindig machen. Bisher waren fast nur jene bekannt, die bei den Luftangriffen ums Leben kamen.

I recently switched to an AMD GPU and VA-API is the only option for hardware acceleration on linux that is viable. But Handbrake does not support it and it doesn't seem like it will in the foreseeable future, so I am looking for an alternative. Ideally it is just an ffmpeg GUI, but I did not find any that are: - actually compatible with linux - updated in the last 5 years - have an option vor h264_vaapi or hevc_vaapi video codecs
Another workflow I thought about that is not working is transcoding the video, but copy all audio and subtitles and let handbrake handle that, however Handbrake has no option to just copy the video stream...
So far I have tried: - ffmpeg_batch: wouldn't use my local version of ffmpeg, because of some path error, only works through wine - qwinff: got it building, but no VA-API codec, and no mkv output support (over 10 years old) - Shutter Encoder: only works through wine, font problems, no va-api support - Avidemux: takes forever to open a video clip, more of a video editor, no va-api support - Hybrid: know it from my windows days, clunky UI, no va-api support, but best candidate for me right now as I could use it to just copy video and handle audio and subtitles in here - StaxRip: the .7z file could not be extracted, I just got an error
Are you aware that HandBrake supports AMD VCN hardware video encoding, but doesn't show the option in the GUI unless support is detected on your system? Perhaps you could get it working by installing the AMD's proprietary driver.
You haven't said what source material you're encoding, so we don't know if there's a feature of Handbrake that would be hard to replace using another tool.
VA-API is the only option for hardware acceleration on linux that is viable.
I guess that depends on what you mean by viable. Are you aware of Vulkan Video?
FFMPEG apparently merged support for it last year. If you can't get HandBrake to do what you want, you might consider investing some time in learning ffmpeg commands.

Are you sure? I would expect AMD to have their own download & install instructions that could be used on any distro. That would be more work for you than just installing a package directly from your distro, of course.
Curiously, I just found a comment from last year claiming that amf-amdgpu-pro now works with Mesa's RADV. So maybe this approach could work without AMD's proprietary driver?

By rips, do you mean your source media is already in a container, like a .mkv or .mp4 file? Or are you encoding directly from optical discs? If it's the latter, then using a tool other than HandBrake for the encode might also require finding a disc ripping tool. (Not all encoding tools can decrypt and demux discs.)
I actually was not. Is it any good? But Handbrake does not support that either, does it?
I haven't used Vulkan Video. It's just an API, so I would expect the video quality to depend on your hardware's encoder, just as it would with VAAPI or any other API.
I don't think Handbrake supports it yet, so until they do, I think you would have to use some other encoding tool.

You haven't said why, but if it's just that managing lots of streams using command line tools is more hassle than you want to deal with, you might take a look at MKVToolNix. It's pretty good at muxing, even if the source media is not a .mkv file.

The hoppy IPA-ish beer I brewed (nearly) 2 weeks ago seems to be done fermenting at 1.008 (temp corrected) making it 7.5% abv.
It tastes pretty good, has a nice bitterness on the higher side for my palate but not too painful. Aroma is tropical/pineapple. It definitely needs a dry hop to bring it to where I want it to be, but overall, I think it's turned out well so far. I wish it wasn't as dry as it is, but it's not wrecking the beer by any means.
@paulywill it's a final gravity hydrometer, it goes from 1.020 to 0.980 I don't know the brand. Does this logo look familiar to you? It says it's made in France. I got it from my LHBS.
@paulywill I have a set of three plastic hydrometers ranged 0.98-1.02, 1.0-1.07, and 1.06-1.13 (or something like that). It’s amazing and considerably less prone to breakage. I’d have to check the brand when I get home from work.

I bought mine used from my LHBS so I have no idea where they got it, but u can attest plastic hydrometers have saved my bacon in a handful of occasions, and I have been fairly satisfied that they are similarly-accurate to a comparable glass one.

All that would happen would your entire meniscus getting cut up then, as why would a LLM know how to do surgery, considering it doesn't even have intelligence?
Surgery is known for sometimes making a problem worse even if a competent surgeon does it - thus surgery should be a last resort.
AI is already expert level at reading x-rays, such as identifying pneumonia in lungs. trust me lad AI will be doing surgery within a decade, and with a much lower rate of screw ups than human doctors
Unfortunately the output of neural networks is proprietary, as that's clearly lacks source code and is an act of reverse engineering to understand it.
Neural networks are nowhere near experts at reading x-rays - they just are extremely fast at comparing every single x-ray on record that contained pneumonia with the current image and notifying the expert if pneumonia is suspected, working around some human error where a condition is simply missed.
Such scheme actually needs a expert to check and determine if there's a false positive or not.
I don't see how you could go from a neural net that is good at giving suggestions as to what condition a scan contains, with some false positives and some false negatives, to the much harder task of actually performing a surgery and not screwing it up within a decade.
