I read a strongly pro-parrot-programming article recently that boiled down to "the computer does the hard work, all you have to do is review the code!" and that was the moment I lost all respect for the author's ideas and opinions forever. Very few people like doing code review, and even fewer people do it well, so "now you're *just* doing code review" seems like a terrible job that will be overwhelmingly done badly. Great outcome. No notes.

@glyph thank you for sharing this. I am not surprised given that, at the foundation, an LLM is just a large linear correlation machine with randomeness sprinkled on top (some intentional, some not). Reading the article did help locate my own negative response to the technology as adjacent to that of reading a particular fantasy book series where the plots were gamed out using D&D. The first book was fresh as an early spring morning, but each succesive volume asymptotically approach an imagination killing level of ineffable sameness.

Well crap. Foxglove popped up in my yard.

Why is there more info on how to cultivate it than remove it? The AI bloat is not helping me sort through actual risk in touching it to rip it out.

I assume it should not be composted, am I incorrect? If drinking the water from a vase of foxglove can kill a small child, it would follow that you shouldn't put it in your compost, right?

I get that it's pretty, but why would anyone want to have digitalis growing in their yards? It's a literal heart stopper. Used in heart medications.

Ugly Bag of Mostly Water

I love foxglove! So beautiful.

NOT SURE THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, but I have a friend who has a vendetta against jimson weed. Every time he sees it, he layers up a bunch of plastic bags, and rips it out using said bags to cover his hands. Then he uses the bags as a receptacle and just throws it in the trash.

EDIT: Now that I've typed that in and submitted, it sounds like a bad idea, and I think I'm going to check on my friend.

was it worth 2 days of suffering and about $300 in parts and tools? absolutely cause the other day i realized how scorching hot the all black interior of that thing is going to get after parking it outside in the sun for a short time.

as a bonus i ended up with some new sets of snap ring pliers, and a dedicated serpentine belt tensioner tool and some stubby sockets. also fixed that last ugly little bumper sag in the front, cleaned some gunk off the alternator and the engine block, and mitigated a bit of rust in the frame while i was in there.

all in all not a bad result. just really glad i didn't screw something up and have to take stuff apart again which has definitely happened before

Boiling distilled water in my new borosilicate glass stove-to-fridge pitcher. Sometimes I live on the edge and do nasal lavage with distilled water STRAIGHT FROM THE GALLON JUG!!! But if I wanna be really anal like other people trying to stay on top of their bronchiectasis, I gotta boil it for 11 minutes first, because technically even bottled distilled water isn't sterile.

Bronchiectasis makes one vulnerable to infections of otherwise "friendly" bacteria in the air, soil, and water, so we're supposed to sterilize everything all the time. It's of course impossible to sterilize one's environment and I wonder how hard I should try. It's like acquired OCD. Trying to balance mental health with physical.

Anyway I got this pitcher you can boil water in on the stove, which is weird and fascinating and I keep imagining it shattering but so far so good.

@polariseraYeah that's not for sterilizing.
You're supposed to boil water, even bottled distilled water, for 10 minutes at sea level plus another minute for very thousand feet above sea level.
Then you can store it for up to 48 hours in the fridge.
Then you do it agin.
I will probably use it beyond 48 hours. I live on the edge, high risk.
I'm doing this mostly to see if I can stand it, make it part of my daily routine. If not, I'll just use distilled water straight from the grocery store jug and hope for the best. I figured I should at least try. This borosilicate pitcher at least simplifies the process as you don't need to pour from vessel to vessel. But it is very weird to heat it on the stove! It makes strange sounds, different from stainless steel pots.

FBI "Prohibited Access" and Nellie Ohr:

In May 2019, the FBI received a Congressional criminal referral from Mark Meadows alleging Nellie Ohr gave knowingly false statements in her testimony before Congress regarding (1) Nellie’s testimony that she had no knowledge of the DOJ’s Trump/Russia investigation; (2) her testimony that she had no knowledge of the DOJ’s “investigations on Russia.”

The fact that Nellie Ohr, wife of senior DOJ official Bruce Ohr, lied to Congress has been essentially established for a number of years. The Congressional referral discusses emails from the DOJ asking Bruce Ohr if his wife could speak with DOJ officials regarding her Russia research. Bruce asked Nellie if she would speak to the DOJ, to which Nellie emailed “Sure!” Nellie would later provide these officials with her Russia analysis.

But the Congressional referral just scratched the surface. Nellie’s “open-source research”, compiled while employed by Fusion GPS, was passed to the FBI by Bruce Ohr on a number of occasions. Recall that the subjects of her research included Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and Michael Flynn. Based on the timing of the disclosures (December 2016, for example) and internal FBI documents, Nellie Ohr’s research was used to help corroborate the Steele Dossier. Funny how that worked: a Fusion GPS employee corroborating a Fusion GPS work product. But it gets worse - Nellie Ohr’s research also informed and contributed to the Steele Dossier.

Before the Congressional referral was released, Nellie Ohr lied to Congress about the date she received her HAM radio license. Nellie testified that she received her HAM license in 2015, stating it was “well before” her employment at Fusion GPS. Records we received via FOIA showed her HAM license was applied for, and granted on, May 23, 2016 – during her employment at Fusion GPS.

Cloudflare is used by some real troublemakers for exactly the opposite of what it claims. The different Cloudflare net blocks are very different from each other in their behavior, just exactly like #Fastly, which owns an Israeli spyware company and half of it's addresses are a threat you should block. (Fastly 146... was an #Israeli spyware company, that was absorbed by Fastly)

Investment bankers. It's not too hard to find this in the business journals and wikipedia, but it changes. It changes when a corporation is so disgraced it's name becomes known.
