Honestly, I feel like someone could almost just brush off a bunch of Gerrard Winstanley's Digger works and start preaching that shit in the US and it would actually go hard. There's also an argument to be made that Dulcinians and Diggers were not just right in their understanding of the objectives of Christianity, but were actually carrying forward in the footsteps *of the original churches*. One can argue that Christianity was originally a radical proto-libertarian socialist movement aimed at overthrowing a colonial dictatorship.
Constantine saw a political opportunity to subvert this movement by controlling the Bible, and took it in order to save the Roman state that it *existed to topple.* The appropriation of these ideas by the chief oppressor, even as he continued worship Apollo until his death bed, led to the lineage of "christian" states that picked up the behavior of Rome under the name of the Church.
Socialists tend to want to avoid religion as a topic beyond "it's a problem" and "it must be destroyed." But as Dawn of Everything points out, property is itself a religious assertion. The "stuff fedishism" (using the full weight of entomology here) that allows people to control other people through things and the idea of ownership of ideas is itself a kind of religious magic.
Even Marxist arguments about property are fundamentally engaging in a religious debate that operates within the framework of the dominant religion. Christian rejections of property are at least as valid, if not more so by the fact that they are at least honest in their grounding.
Just so I don't go too far down this Rabbit Hole without also paying appropriate respect to Muslim comrades, it's also worth recognizing that if we follow this logic then the socialist elements of Islam are, perhaps, more true to what Christianity set out to do before being appropriated by the Romans. In this way, and in its actual wars against those who picked up the Roman banner, there are parts of Islam that remain more true to Jesus than Christianity itself even when one assumes a Christian frame of reference.
But there's worthwhile radicalism all over, and it's worth acknowledging and respecting. I'm not religious anymore (at least not in a way most people recognize), but I've also grown past the knee-jerk rejection of religion that I developed as a response to religious trauma. We have a lot of comrades if we can learn to respect them.

The entire concept of the labor theory of value is a theological debate about the nature of the god of property. Marx's arguments against capitalism were operating within the religious paradigm of property fedishism. An equally valid response to the religious assertion that property allows people to control other people is just "nah, I don't believe in that shit."
No greater argument is needed, because the assertion of the property fedishists is itself founded on nothing and can therefore be rejected with nothing.
Also, why is it all these evangelicals want to interpret everything literally, except Matthew 16:28? Take that with 1 Corinthians 12:27, and suddenly shit gets really interesting. Basically it would mean that "the second coming" is actually the church itself, but only insomuch as it behaves as a conscious being (as a literal body, sharing all things in common, etc) that behaves as "the Christ" (as described in Acts 4:32).
I did know about them, but didn't actually have a ton of depth. This really hits hard given that I've been reading Dawn of Everything, which starts by talking about this time period. Basically, they took the indigenous critiques that led to the enlightenment full on.

I have never used LLMs in software development. But I have a family member who pushes them for other uses: so far, handwriting recognition, contract law, medical diagnosis etc. In each case the research process is something I would normally enjoy, but the LLM turns it into an exercise in debugging, which I do not enjoy. Telling the LLM its output was wrong leads to even worse results. The one exception so far is long translations, where the LLM often works like a good thesaurus for word choice, but still needs extremely close inspection for plausible but wrong 'translations'.

Reading the article did help locate my own negative response to the technology as adjacent to that of reading a particular fantasy book series where the plots were gamed out using D&D. NOT SURE THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, but I have a friend who has a vendetta against jimson weed. Every time he sees it, he layers up a bunch of plastic bags, and rips it out using said bags to cover his hands. Then he uses the bags as a receptacle and just throws it in the trash.

was it worth 2 days of suffering and about $300 in parts and tools? absolutely cause the other day i realized how scorching hot the all black interior of that thing is going to get after parking it outside in the sun for a short time.
as a bonus i ended up with some new sets of snap ring pliers, and a dedicated serpentine belt tensioner tool and some stubby sockets. also fixed that last ugly little bumper sag in the front, cleaned some gunk off the alternator and the engine block, and mitigated a bit of rust in the frame while i was in there.
all in all not a bad result. just really glad i didn't screw something up and have to take stuff apart again which has definitely happened before
i figure that would have cost over $1k at the dealer since a lot of stuff has to come out to access the AC compressor, and i had to raise the engine slightly.

Boiling distilled water in my new borosilicate glass stove-to-fridge pitcher. Sometimes I live on the edge and do nasal lavage with distilled water STRAIGHT FROM THE GALLON JUG!!! But if I wanna be really anal like other people trying to stay on top of their bronchiectasis, I gotta boil it for 11 minutes first, because technically even bottled distilled water isn't sterile.
Bronchiectasis makes one vulnerable to infections of otherwise "friendly" bacteria in the air, soil, and water, so we're supposed to sterilize everything all the time. It's of course impossible to sterilize one's environment and I wonder how hard I should try. It's like acquired OCD. Trying to balance mental health with physical.
Anyway I got this pitcher you can boil water in on the stove, which is weird and fascinating and I keep imagining it shattering but so far so good.

@polariseraYeah that's not for sterilizing. You're supposed to boil water, even bottled distilled water, for 10 minutes at sea level plus another minute for very thousand feet above sea level. Then you can store it for up to 48 hours in the fridge. Then you do it agin. I will probably use it beyond 48 hours. I live on the edge, high risk. I'm doing this mostly to see if I can stand it, make it part of my daily routine. If not, I'll just use distilled water straight from the grocery store jug and hope for the best. I figured I should at least try. This borosilicate pitcher at least simplifies the process as you don't need to pour from vessel to vessel. But it is very weird to heat it on the stove! It makes strange sounds, different from stainless steel pots.

One can argue that Christianity was originally a radical proto-libertarian socialist movement aimed at overthrowing a colonial dictatorship.
Constantine saw a political opportunity to subvert this movement by controlling the Bible, and took it in order to save the Roman state that it *existed to topple.* The appropriation of these ideas by the chief oppressor, even as he continued worship Apollo until his death bed, led to the lineage of "christian" states that picked up the behavior of Rome under the name of the Church.

in reply to hex • • •Socialists tend to want to avoid religion as a topic beyond "it's a problem" and "it must be destroyed." But as Dawn of Everything points out, property is itself a religious assertion. The "stuff fedishism" (using the full weight of entomology here) that allows people to control other people through things and the idea of ownership of ideas is itself a kind of religious magic.
Even Marxist arguments about property are fundamentally engaging in a religious debate that operates within the framework of the dominant religion. Christian rejections of property are at least as valid, if not more so by the fact that they are at least honest in their grounding.

in reply to hex • • •Just so I don't go too far down this Rabbit Hole without also paying appropriate respect to Muslim comrades, it's also worth recognizing that if we follow this logic then the socialist elements of Islam are, perhaps, more true to what Christianity set out to do before being appropriated by the Romans. In this way, and in its actual wars against those who picked up the Roman banner, there are parts of Islam that remain more true to Jesus than Christianity itself even when one assumes a Christian frame of reference.
But there's worthwhile radicalism all over, and it's worth acknowledging and respecting. I'm not religious anymore (at least not in a way most people recognize), but I've also grown past the knee-jerk rejection of religion that I developed as a response to religious trauma. We have a lot of comrades if we can learn to respect them.

Marx's arguments against capitalism were operating within the religious paradigm of property fedishism. An equally valid response to the religious assertion that property allows people to control other people is just "nah, I don't believe in that shit."
No greater argument is needed, because the assertion of the property fedishists is itself founded on nothing and can therefore be rejected with nothing.

Take that with 1 Corinthians 12:27, and suddenly shit gets really interesting. Basically it would mean that "the second coming" is actually the church itself, but only insomuch as it behaves as a conscious being (as a literal body, sharing all things in common, etc) that behaves as "the Christ" (as described in Acts 4:32).
Put that in a pamphlet and see what happens.

I did know about them, but didn't actually have a ton of depth. This really hits hard given that I've been reading Dawn of Everything, which starts by talking about this time period. Basically, they took the indigenous critiques that led to the enlightenment full on.
