Harvard Divinity School (HDS) has appointed Rabbi Shaul Magid, a self-described "counter-Zionist," as a Professor of Modern Jewish Studies in Residence to combat "anti-Israeli bias". #Harvard's anti-Semitism task force found that "politicized instruction" was creating an environment where #Jewish students couldn't fully participate in academic life.
Magid acknowledged rising anti-Jewish sentiment but defended the anti-Israel protest movement. He called the Jewish state โilliberalโ and โchauvinist.โ In his 2023 book, *The Necessity of Exile*, he presented Zionism as a historical ideology that served its purpose but should be abandoned with other ethnic nationalism and colonial thinking. He positioned his opposition as part of a broader critique of exclusionary nationalist ideologies, not as antisemitic. He argued that #Zionism had its time and work, and it can be set aside, along with Manifest Destiny, #colonialism, and other chauvinistic ideologies. He advocates for a one-state solution where Israel would be both Jewish and Palestinian without being structured on the notion that this land belongs to anyone.
Hiring a Jewish scholar and rabbi to address campus antisemitism seems to be a perfect choice. Yet Rabbi David Wolpe, a former Harvard anti-Semitism advisory group member, believes Magidโs hiring doesnโt solve Harvardโs issues with Jewish students. The criticism of Harvard, now due to Magidโs โcounter-Zionistโ views, suggests the real objection was to perspectives that challenge Israelโs policies or Zionist ideology.
In fact Wolpeโs criticism that Magidโs views donโt โrepresent anything like the mainstream view of the American Jewish communityโ further supports this interpretation - the issue appears to be ideological conformity on #Israel rather than protection from #antisemitism. But did anyone really doubt it was about anything else?

The idea that the government should remove kids from their families 8 hours a day, warehouse them in what are essentially prisons, and have their minds shaped by agents of the state is so tremendously stupid that it's a wonder anyone ever fell for it.
If you cannot think for yourself, you are not intelligent, period. Not questioning information fed to you through schooling, the government or the media and simply regurgitating it as being true because you have blind faith in those entities is not intelligence, it's obedience.

Iโve firewall rules to address recent SYN and UDP floods. So far they have had the intended effect.
Iโve installed a new shell server, anduinos.eskimo.com. This is a debian derived server similar to popOS except the default graphical environment is Gnome configured to look like Windows. Unfortunately this environment does not seem to work if using vnc or x2go, instead you just get default mate or gnome environments. Also at present, rdp protocol is not working on this new server, I've even gone so far as compiling xrdp from source, no help.
Iโve installed a new application called โqmanโ on all the shell servers. It is an alternative to man for reading manual pages. Unlike man, it provides an index of sections and then pages within those sections and also provides colored highlighting that makes reading manual pages a bit more pleasant.

@AlexanderVI you are 100% correct. I grew up in California and have lived all over the country. There are large numbers of heavily armed people *everywhere* in America (it's just that red states are more likely to have open carry so you *see them* more). And conservatives in blue states are the *worst* โ resentful, protected from their bad decisions by blue state policies but extra aggrieved because they don't have the majority cultural power to inflict their bigotry on everyone.
@milkman76 I'm not, but my experience of ten years in LA being around a wide variety of people from different backgrounds was that those on the right were generally more comfortable with gun ownership, and that there are many places in the state that are deeply red despite the overall impression of some outside that California is all groovy and whatever.
I am sure, however, as you point out, that it's not EXCLUSIVELY right wingers who are armed.
