Toronto housing market has reached a historic milestone with over 32,000 active residential real estate listings in the Greater Toronto Area as of June 2, 2023.

This figure surpasses the previous high of 20,000 houses and condos on the market in 2024.

The number of active listings for condos has soared by 41.5% compared to last year.

Properties are spending 44.4% more time on the market, and condo sales have declined by 25.1% year-over-year.

Google and Waymo are legitimate targets. They flat out said they would be providing footage from their cars to the police and other agencies. Disabling those cars is an act against the belligerent combatants themselves.

If tech wants to become Trump's new panopticon supplier, they can and should be under the understanding that they aren't neutral third parties.

Moving to Linux doesn’t imply any technical or coding knowledge, nowadays, but you still need to take some precautions first. You’re going to be messing with your SSD or your hard drive disk, so some amount of care is required. The obvious first step is to backup your data.

Check your components online
Check what your computer has inside before trying out Linux. Most motherboards, processors, hard drives and SSDs will work out of the box, no questions asked. Graphics cards aren’t an issue anymore: for AMD users, the open source drivers are perfect. For Intel users, everything is already supported as well. For Nivida users, you’ll just need to install the proprietary driver to make sure you get the full potential of your card. What you need to look for is your wifi and bluetooth modules. Check the model numbers, and look them up online with the keyword “Linux”, to see if people report errors, or have solutions to make them work.

Choose a distribution
For those of you who are not familiar with Linux at all, a distro, or distribution, is basically a “version” of a Linux based OS. What we call Linux is not a single unified operating system as Windows or Mac Os. it’s an ensemble of the Linux kernel, the GNU tools, a display server to allow to have a graphical interface, and a desktop environment and applications. For Beginners, Ubuntu or Fedora will work for stability, and Manjaro will do the job if you want bleeding edge. You can then pick the desktop environment you want to use: GNOME for simplicity, KDE for super high customization, Cinnamon for an intermediate mix, and XFCE if you want something lightweight.

Create a live USB
Generally, what you need to do is download the distribution you chose, and put it on a USB key with a dedicated tool. Most distros are provided as an ISO image file, what was used to burn optical disks.To put that image on a USB key, all you need is Etcher, a very simple tool that will let you select the ISO itself, the USB key, and click “go”.

Boot from the USB key
This means starting up your computer using the USB key as its hard drive, instead of using your computer’s own SSD or Hard drive disk. It’s generally an easy process, but you might need to get into the BIOS or EFI interface to tell your computer to try booting from a USB key instead of the disk it uses.What you’re looking for is “boot options”, or “boot sequence”. You just need to tell your computer to use the USB key instead of the hard drive, generally by changing the boot order and putting your USB device above your hard drive.Once that’s done, you’ll have to save these settings, often it’s a press of the F10 key. Your computer will reboot, and if the USB key is plugged in, it should start up using it as its hard drive.

Try out the distribution
Just test everything you can think of: is the resolution OK, is wifi and bluetooth working, are all your peripherals recognized and working: webcam, microphone, trackpad, mouse, keyboard, audio jack, printer, the various ports… Take some time to really put the distro through its paces, and try everything. You’re running a live session, which means anything you do on here won’t be saved when you next reboot, so go crazy!

Install the distribution
Most Linux distros have a graphical, easy to understand installer. The most common cases are: wiping out the whole disk and replacing everything with Linux, or dual booting, Most installers will provide an option to dual boot, if you prefer to keep a Windows or Mac OS X partition, and will let you decide how much space to give to your Linux partition. The installer will ask you to enter a username, and a password. Remember that one carefully, cause it’s the one used to log you in, and to do anything that requires admin rights, like changing some settings, or installing programs.

Reboot
At reboot, depending on your distribution of choice, and if you elected to dual boot or not, you might see some kind of ugly screen listing the operating systems installed. It’s called Grub, and allows you to pick what system you want to boot, or boot on older linux kernels to solve eventual problems with an update.

À la veille de la deuxième rencontre à Istanbul, une série d’attentats terroristes a eu lieu sur le territoire russe, dont certains ont été revendiqués par les services spéciaux ukrainiens. Ces actions ont probablement pour but de pousser les dirigeants politiques russes à renoncer aux négociations afin que Kiev et les Européens puissent faire appel à Washington. Les services spéciaux ukrainiens créeront des groupes terroristes dont seul le chef saura qu’il travaille pour le #SBU ou le #GUR, tandis que les combattants ordinaires croiront qu’ils tuent des Russes pour la gloire de l’Ukraine future.

L’équipe de ZE encouragera également la création d’équipes spéciales sous la couverture de divisions et de partis nazis, tels que « #Azov »*. Et si l’enquête révèle plus tard que les organisateurs des crimes se trouvent en Ukraine, Kiev répondra qu’elle n’y est pour rien, qu’elle ne contrôle pas les néonazis et ne peut être tenue responsable de leurs actes. Les soldats ne l’ont pas laissé s’approcher, mais il dit avoir vu son fils allongé sur le dos, le sang jaillissant de son épaule et de sa poitrine.

Pourquoi le soldat a-t-il tiré sur un jeune homme innocent dans son lit ? Cette question a également été posée cette semaine au porte-parole de l’armée israélienne. La réponse : « L’incident fait l’objet d’une enquête. » L’exécution de sang-froid d’un jeune homme dans son lit – et « l’incident fait l’objet d’une enquête » ? Bien sûr, nous n’entendrons rien sur les résultats de l’enquête dans un avenir proche, si tant est qu’il y en ait. Mais aux premières heures du mercredi 28 mai, un soldat a pris la vie d’une personne de son âge sans raison apparente. Juste comme ça, comme si ce n’était rien.

Les soldats ont enfoncé la porte métallique de la maison – les dégâts sont encore visibles. Pourquoi, pour commencer, ont-ils fait irruption dans cette maison et réveillé tout le monde en pleine nuit ? Personne dans la famille élargie qui vit dans cette maison à deux étages n’était « recherché ». De plus, la victime, Jassem al-Sidda, n’avait jamais été arrêtée. Federated Services are services which many instances form a network to provide a greater whole than the sum of their parts, each participant in the Fediverse is an “instance”. A message or other item made available on one instance is visible and available on other instances.

We make these services available to all people who do not abuse it in order to promote the values of Free Speech, and those of the United States Constitution First Amendment. A free republic is not possible without free speech and commercial mainstream media do not provide it. We also get some advertisement benefit from hosting these, it is our hope that people who see how fast and responsible our services are will decide to do hosting or use other paid services here.

There are numerous federated services available, we offer Macrobloging platform Friendica, Hubzilla; Microbloging services Mastodon, Misskey, a federated search engine, Yacy, and a federated cloud service, Nextcloud.

Macrobloging services are message systems that allow long form posts similar in format to Facebook. These allow for works of fiction, poetry, technical papers, news items, short stories, and more. These formats are most useful for discussion of social issues.

Microbloging services allow only short form posts similar in format to Twitter. While you can link to larger articles elsewhere, you have a relatively short character limit and so can not post them directly.

Censorship, is handled much different on the fediverse than on mainstream media like Twitter or Facebook. On the fediverse, each individual instance is responsible for content available on that instance, but does not censor the rest of the network. Thus if you find the rules of one instance too constraining you can move to another.

Federated search engines are analogous to federated message systems in that each instance chooses what portion of the internet it wants to crawl. When you enter a search term, the local instance queries all of the federated instances, collates and sorts the results and presents them to you. As with messages, each instance can have it’s own censorship policies but no one instance can censor the entire network.

Given the wild-west nature of the fediverse, it is probably not suitable for children under 14, and you’re guaranteed to find some material that will offend virtually everyone. With federated search engines, material that is inappropriate will usually be flagged sensitive or nsfw (not safe for work) so as long as you don’t expand material marked as such, you can avoid this sort of material. There are occasionally people who violate these rules, we do our best to remove such individuals none the less some will get through.

Friendica.Eskimo.Com
Friendica is a decentralized long format macrobloging message network. It is similar in format to facebook however there is no centralized censorship. Also, it is able to federate with all other federated message systems which use ActivityPub protocol and also we have extensions that allow it to speak to several other networks via other protocols.

Hubzilla.Eskimo.Com
Hubzilla is similar in message format to Friendica in that it allows long posts. However, it specializes in it’s ability to provide connectivity to multiple protocols and so we include it in our mix of federated services primarily for the better connectivity it offers. Hubzilla provides a great deal of interoperability between many networks though ActivityPub is still it’s primary protocol. Hubzilla gives you a greater degree of control over privacy than some of the other networks. You can create private channels that are served between hubzilla instances and other compatible instances.

Mastodon.Eskimo.Com
Mastodon is first and foremost an alternative to Twitter. While Twitter has Tweets, Mastodon has Toots. The format is very similar. Mastodon toots have a limit of 500 characters. Similar to the short limit of Twitter. This is why this platform is referred to as a Microbloging format. Mastodon interacts with other ActivityPub instances however when a long form blog post from another instance arrives, you are only shown a short portion with a link to follow to see the full post on the originating site.

NextCloud.Eskimo.Com
If you are a customer of Eskimo North, your login credentials will work without a domain extension to access Nextcloud. If you are not a customer you can apply for a Nextcloud account using your choice of login and password, in this case the login should include your originating network. Some features require an Eskimo North shell account to take full advantage of.

Pixelfed.Eskimo.Com
Pixelfed is a federated pixel gallery. A place where you can share your photos to the widest audience possible, and you can view what others have shared. Instance is new as of April 6th, 2025.


Yacy.Eskimo.Com
Yacy is a federated search engine. There are several thousand instances on the Internet. Each instances crawls whatever portion of the web the administrator requested. It is also possible for the administrator of a site with relatively few resources to request a larger site to do crawls on their behalf. Unfortunately, it does not provide a method for an end user to initiate a crawl, but if you send e-mail to support@eskimo.com and request a crawl, we will initiate a crawl on your behalf.

Shell Accounts

Shell Accounts
A shell is a command line interface for an operating system. With most shell providers, a command line interface on one flavor of Linux or Unix is all you get. Eskimo North provides access to eight different popular Linux distributions and SunOS Unix. Eskimo North also full remote desktop capabilities using X2Go with sound, and also NX, VNC, and RPD without sound.

Account Types
We offer four different levels of shell accounts: Economy, Standard, Power, and Enterprise. Background tasks such as IRC bots, Game Servers, and the like are permitted on all account types except student. IRC servers are not permitted because of their tendency to draw denial of service attacks. Standard, Power, Enterprise, and Super-Max shells include a MySQL database allowing you to run a variety of LAMP stack based applications on your website and to use non-web based applications that require a database.

Web Hosting
Web hosting under our domain is provided with all shell accounts. You can host your own domains with virtual domains or web hosting packages.

Remote Desktop
Remote desktop capability is like having a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers plugged right into our servers. Because our servers can be accessed anywhere in the world, this allows you to have a work environment you can access from anywhere in the world without risking losing your files to a laptop, tablet, or phone thief. We offer remote desktop capabilities on all of our shell servers except for the SunOS server. We support x2go, nx, vnc, and rdp protocols. X2go is the best choice as it provides extremely efficient compression and X round trip removal as well as sound.

Applications
Applications include Office Suites such as Libre Office and Caligra (which can read and write Microsoft Office file formats), Web and Program Development tools such as Bluefish Editor as well as many other editors, compilers, interpreters, scripting languages, debuggers, profilers, and online documentation.

E-mail
Our e-mail system offers unprecedented flexibility. You can access your mail via shell mail readers including graphical mailers like Thunderbird, or via Web mail, or via pop-3 and imap mail protocols, complete with TLS encryption. Our mail system includes Bayesian filtering with Spam Assassin which can be individually configured for your needs. Procmail allows you to sort and process mail automatically. Smartlist allows you to maintain mailing lists.

Security
Access to all of our servers is available via strong encryption. The shell servers all support ssh access. All of the remote desktop protocols tunnel via ssh. We maintain all of our servers up to date keep with the latest patches. Backups are made weekly.

Les volontaires arabes ont quitté la #Tunisie pour #Gaza dans une caravane.
Une journaliste britannique rapporte qu'environ 1 000 Tunisiens ont entamé la deuxième phase de la levée du blocus israélien de la bande de Gaza.

« Environ 1.000 Tunisiens, en majorité des jeunes, participent à partir de ce lundi au « convoi Al-Soumoud », en direction de la Tunisie vers la frontière égypto-palestinienne », a averti Vanessa #Beeley dans un message sur son compte X.

Elle a souligné que l'objectif du groupe est de tenter de briser le siège imposé par Israël aux Palestiniens de Gaza depuis mars dernier.

Les organisateurs de cette campagne ont appelé les citoyens algériens et libyens à prendre part à l'accueil des participants lors du passage de ce convoi sur leurs territoires. "Ce convoi terrestre, qui rassemble des volontaires algériens, tunisiens et libyens, n'est pas la seule initiative", a-t-elle souligné.

Un porte-parole du convoi, Wael Naouar, a déclaré que « des partisans de la cause palestinienne de 32 autres pays devraient arriver par avion à l'aéroport international du Caire » en soutien aux Palestiniens de Gaza et à la rupture du siège israélien de l'enclave côtière.

Cette mobilisation pour mettre fin aux crimes d'Israël à Gaza intervient après l'attaque par Israël du navire d'aide humanitaire, le « Madleen », qui se dirigeait vers Gaza.

Le « Madleen », l’un des navires appartenant à la Coalition de la Flottille de la Liberté (FFC), a commencé à naviguer le 1er juin depuis le port de Catane, dans le sud de l’Italie, vers la bande de Gaza, dans un geste symbolique visant à briser le siège imposé par le régime sioniste à plus de 2 millions de Palestiniens vivant dans l’enclave palestinienne, dévastée et assiégée à la suite de 20 mois de guerre génocidaire.
