At this point, the way people talk about Hamas, it's like they aren't even talking about the real thing. They're talking about their internalized propaganda movie of Hamas.
This is true of both people who see them as a Bush era terror machine and people who see them as heroic freedom fighters who can do no wrong.
Hamas can only be understood from a rational perspective when considering the totality of the Israeli rule over the Gaza strip, the social movements that predated Hamas, the economic context Hamas took power in, the historical ties between Israel and Hamas, and their role in the second intifada.
The truth is that Hamas is a partisan militant organization that is a genuine multi-branched mass movement on the part of an oppressed and colonized population. Its military wing is also guilty of both wartime atrocities and collaboration with Israel at various points in its history. Both can be true at the same time.

That and on a more abstract level, they arguably collaborated by "playing their part" according to Israel's script, even if "their part" was nominally confrontational, but mainly to prevent Palestinian unity. I see them as very similar to the IRA of the 80s and 90s and similar strategies could apply such as providing a path to legitimacy through wider recognition. When Fru-Fru whelped a litter sired by Darling that included a blue, white, & gold puppy, the breeders were floored. The parents were champion blue and tan Yorkshire Terriers that Werner & Gertrude Biewer had bred before. No previous litters had ever produced a tricolor puppy, and this one came out of nowhere. The Biewers had no way of knowing at the time that the puppy they would name “Snowflake” was the product of two parents who carried the recessive piebald gene.
Born in 1984, Snowflake was the only puppy out of 4 who had the unusual coloring.
Given that his color was a disqualification, I don’t know why the breeders chose to breed more Snowflakes other than that they found him beautiful and decided to develop a line that consistently produced a tri-colored (piebald) Yorkshire Terriers.
The couple began a carefully selective breeding program, the goal to create a new line.Most of their fellow Yorkie owners saw Snowflake as a “mismarked” Yorkie.
Prevailing belief was that Snowflake was the result of a recessive piebald gene occasionally present in Yorkshire Terriers, & certainly not evidence of a different breed. That might have been the end of it had the couple not produced subsequent piebalds that caught the attention of other dog lovers, & in particular, Margot Eskens, a famous singer who purchased two of these tricolor puppies.

The pivotal study confirmed the Biewer as a genetically distinct breed—a first in canine history.
Genetic findings were fascinating. While most of the Biewer’s haplotypes (a set of DNA variants) are shared with Yorkshire Terriers, chromosome 20 stood out. A unique haplotype on this chromosome, found in over a third of Biewers, was absent in standard Yorkies. The Biewer’s signature tricolor coat was largely explained by the MITF gene which controls pigment distribution. Unlike Yorkies, many Biewers carry specific MITF variants associated with white spotting
Most importantly, the studies found that Biewers have healthy genetic diversity.

War and genocide are the most brutal means in the fight for control over resources, territories, and people. They are always accompanied by the presumption to justify the mass destruction of human lives, displacement, collective traumatization, and unleashed destruction.
This presumption is at the core of the logic of war we are confronted with in our context and the increasing militarization, which is concretely expressed in Germany’s active participation in various wars – for example, as one of the largest arms exporters worldwide. It forms the basis of Germany’s “raison d’état” to support the genocide in Gaza and the inhumane politics of the Israeli state against the Palestinian population. It is also openly reflected in “Operation Prosperity Guardian” – NATO bombarding western trade routes in Yemen.
In the deadly proxy war in Sudan, where tens of thousands are dying and millions are fleeing, largely unnoticed by the “Western world”. And it is embedded in the propaganda of “military readiness” here, which has prevailed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We are witnessing an impressive revival of Cold War rhetoric. A propaganda that leads to military rearmament on a massive scale in a very short time and the militarization and takeover of various civilian and societal structures by the Bundeswehr.
It will eventually lead to the reinstatement of (compulsory) military service sooner or later.
Fire against Liberal Coldness! The condition for a societal climate in which all these atrocities can be accepted as inevitable, as unavoidable, is the dehumanization of those who must suffer through war, genocide, and displacement. It is not just about a psychological mechanism to prevent losing one’s mind in the face of these horrors. In the devaluation and dehumanization of a large part of the global population, the continuity of colonial thinking and actions is revealed.
This brought about, through war and subjugation, the dominance of the so-called Western world and bourgeois society. War and subjugation remain the means by which this dominance is maintained. Ignorance towards the killing and domination of people is widespread throughout German society. We are witnessing a version of “reason” that, cold and unempathic, allows human lives to be devalued as “others” and separates this from one’s own existence.
