Affluent older white people will tell you with a straight face that crime is rampant on the subway, which they never use, or downtown, where they never go, amongst other easily disproven things.
I rode the bus for years, in some of the poorest parts of town, and the worst thing that ever happened was their budget got cut, turning hour-long trips into 3-6 hour ordeals.
Part of this is inherent to their racism, but part of it is that the people who are nominally anti-racist and who've had the opportunities to rein in or destroy the propaganda outlets that keep rotting older white people's brains just refuse to do it.
Every single Dem administration *should* have been pouring effort into finding any and everything they could nail on Fox News, OANN, etc. and the people behind them to put them out of operation. Same goes for Facebook, etc.
the funniest thing you can do to a boomer is tell them the change in the crime rate since they were young. they will not just disbelieve you, they will throw an absolute fit.

ugh - my mom is the opposite of rich, and doesn't think of herself as racist but believes all the horror stories on MSNBC about crime in NYC and is sure that all her home aides ( mostly muslim) hate her because she's jewish. We have lots of conversations about these false stories.

I experienced this in my hometown. Worked for over 4 years downtown, working swing shift (both days & nights, in other words) and rarely saw anything that could truly be called "crime." Even what I did see was mostly lights from police cars.
The kicker: I worked at a TV station, one of the outlets where affluent older white people get the idea that crime is rampant downtown.
I live in a down-on-its-luck Southern US town. My dad and uncles live out in the county. When I told my uncle I wanted to buy a house in town, he said I'd be shot within three months.
Couple years now. No gunfire near me. Plenty out there near him.

it's a device for tuning automotive distributors. looks like it's missing the chuck? you clamp the distributor onto that arm, and then a chuck is supposed to go from the plate up to the distributor. you put the wires on it and the thing spins the distributor at various speeds (see the 'engine speed' gauge) and the firing points show up on the plate at the bottom. the charts are various ignition timing information for various engines, so you can see how far off your distributor is and figure out what you need to change.

I will continue to commend their efforts and sometimes explain them. But for all their skill and integrity, they won’t be able to prevent the worst effect of the Supreme Court’s perfidy: plaintiffs’ lawyers will stop bringing cases they clearly will lose on appeal. 5/
The lawyers who represent the plaintiffs in the cases against the Trump regime do not have the funds or the staff to litigate every instance of the regime’s lawlessness. They also do not want to litigate cases that will only serve to give the Supreme Court the chance to hand down a lawless diktat as though it should be treated as precedent. 6/
So most plaintiffs’ lawyers will become ever more selective and careful in who they represent and the issues they put before the courts. This is natural and understandable. But it is also frightening. The actions of the U.S. Supreme Court play a direct role in sharply increasing the prospect of a hot civil war in the United States. 7/

As you know SCOTUS only takes up 2% of merits cases in any given year, because they cannot afford to take more. That means they don't rule on most questions at all
For every case I've seen get headlines from the Shadow docket, I've found another where they just denied review even though the administration lost
and as you know this has always been the power of the appellate circuits -- if not the reason for the US' continued existence, IMO. They are the final word and may split
And that means they will decide how even shitty policies of the administration occur in practice, due to most in their jurisdiction following the law regardless
