Au préalable, il faut se rappeler qu' #Israël n’est pas seulement massivement soutenu par les puissances occidentales : c’est aussi l’un des principaux producteurs et exportateurs d’armes au monde. Et un excellent client des industries militaires…
Une enquête d’Investigate Europe révèle qu’en pleine guerre à Gaza, une filiale grecque d’Israel Aerospace Industries a été intégrée à un programme européen de développement de drones militaires. Celui-ci est cofinancé à hauteur de plusieurs millions d’euros par la Commission européenne et sept pays, dont la #France et la #Belgique.
On se souvient aussi que la société belge Syensqo avait fourni des pièces pour le drone avec lequel Israël a bombardé un convoi de World Central Kitchen à Gaza, tuant 7 travailleurs humanitaires.
En matière d' #armement, l'État hébreu a les moyens de ses ambitions. Dans ses guerres, de nouvelles technologies sont régulièrement expérimentées – comme dans un laboratoire grandeur nature, qui sert aussi de showroom pour armes connectées.
Ce recours aux technologies létales à distance s’explique aussi par la structure de l’armée israélienne : un petit pays, largement tributaire de ses réservistes, soucieux de limiter leur exposition aux dangers. Lors de sa « guerre des 12 jours » avec l’Iran, Israël a démontré qu’il pouvait cibler avec précision des individus à plus de 1500 kilomètres.
L'État hébreu fut l’un des pionniers de la technologie des drones, et son armée dispose d'une unité de drones d’attaque depuis plus de 20 ans. Se présentant comme une « superpuissance des drones », Israël vante ces engins capables de « neutraliser » leur cible « sans causer de dommages collatéraux ou de préjudice à autrui ». Ainsi parlait le général Omri Dor, dans une interview au Times of Israel en 2022. À l’époque déjà, les drones – tous modèles confondus, du grand aéronef au mini-drone kamikaze – représentaient 80% des heures de vol opérationnelles de l’armée de l’air.
Depuis, Israël a encore intensifié le recours à ces technologies dites de précision : drones, mortiers intelligents, fusils à très longue portée, intelligence artificielle…

Le film « From Ground Zero », initié en 2024 par le cinéaste palestinien Rashid Masharawi, rassemble 22 courts métrages documentant la vie à Gaza pendant la « guerre ». Ce qui frappe d’emblée à la vision du film, c’est ce bourdonnement qui envahit l’espace sonore. Comme un essaim d’abeilles menaçant. Ce n’est pas un effet de montage : le mixage a même tenté d’atténuer ce bruit excessivement désagréable et anxiogène.
Pour les habitants, cette présence constante est traumatisante : elle empêche de dormir, détruit tout sentiment de sécurité, accroît l’impuissance. Car les drones ne font pas que filmer. Ils filment, surveillent, repèrent, intimident.
L’analyste militaire du site Ynet, qui s’est rendu la semaine dernière dans une base israélienne au nord de Gaza, décrit : « L’endroit ressemble à un aéroport miniature : les drones décollent et atterrissent sans arrêt. »
Les drones de combat, partiellement ou entièrement pilotés par des systèmes d’intelligence artificielle – baptisés « Lavender », « Gospel », et « Where’s Daddy? » –, génèrent des dizaines de milliers de cibles. Outre les « dommages collatéraux » qu'ils causent inévitablement dans des zones urbaines densément peuplées, ces systèmes obéissent en partie à des critères arbitraires. L’armée prétend que leur taux d’erreur est de 10%. En réalité, il est probablement bien plus élevé.
De nombreuses vidéos montrent des Gazaouis marchant seuls ou en groupe, pulvérisés sans avertissement. Dans certaines circonstances, être un "point chaud" – une présence humaine repérée par un capteur thermique – suffit à faire de vous une cible potentielle. Il suffit ensuite d’un « comportement suspect » pour vous faire basculer sur la liste des « terroristes » abattus.
L'association israélienne Breaking the Silence a récemment recueilli des témoignages de soldats détaillant l’ambiguïté des instructions données aux troupes et aux systèmes d’intelligence artificielle. Se baisser pour faire ses lacets ou pour cueillir des herbes, parler avec quelqu'un en rue, marcher avec un sac sur le dos, rouler à vélo, sont quelques-uns des comportements susceptibles d'être détectés comme des « menaces »… et de vous transformer en cible.
Ainsi, la semaine dernière à Khan Younès, la démarche claudicante de Muhammad Al-Fara, un homme souffrant de handicap, lui a été fatale : un drone automatisé l'a visé avec un explosif.
« Si vous cherchez des cibles, vous les trouvez », raconte un soldat. Qui ajoute : « Quand Netanyahu prononce un discours au Congrès et dit : "À Rafah, nous avons tué 1203 personnes et pas un civil innocent", c'est de la connerie, parce que personne n'en sait rien ».

Le média israélo-palestinien +972 Magazine vient de publier une excellente enquête sur une flotte de milliers de quadricoptères commerciaux de fabrication chinoise, utilisés d'abord à des fins de reconnaissance (vérifier qu'une maison est vide avant que les soldats y entrent), puis transformés par « l'armée la plus morale du monde » en lanceurs de grenades.
Dans l'article, sept soldats et officiers témoignent que les frappes de drones tuent intentionnellement, sans tirer de coups de semonce, et que la grande majorité des victimes sont des civils non armés se trouvant à une telle distance qu'ils ne peuvent représenter aucune menace pour les militaires.
L'objectif principal de cette brigade est de « dépeupler » des zones de Gaza : forcer les habitants à fuir leur quartier et les empêcher d’y revenir. Deux soldats résument la stratégie de leur hiérarchie par une formule : « apprendre par le sang ». Comme l'humain fait avec les souris. « Vous envoyez un drone jusqu’à 200 mètres de haut, et vous pouvez voir de 3 à 4 kilomètres dans chaque direction. Vous voyez quelqu'un s'approcher, le premier est frappé avec une grenade, et après cela, le mot se répand. Un ou deux autres viennent, et ils meurent. Les autres comprennent. »
Une fois une zone « stérilisée » – vidée de ses habitants, puis de ses bâtiments – elle devient interdite. Son périmètre, selon les soldats, s’étend au gré des capacités de vol des drones, soit sur plusieurs kilomètres.
La distance sert aussi à tenir l’humanité et la souffrance des victimes hors du champ de vision des soldats. Les drones pilotés manuellement sont contrôlés à distance, via un écran, par des troupes au sol.
« Cette technologie a rendu la mort beaucoup plus stérile », admet un autre militaire : « C’est comme un jeu vidéo. Il y a un viseur au centre de l’écran, et tu vois une image. Tu es à des centaines de mètres, parfois même à plus d’un kilomètre. Ensuite, tu joues avec le joystick, tu repères la cible et tu lâches. »

Au cœur de ce showroom à ciel ouvert, des enfants sont régulièrement ciblés. Pas par erreur. Juste parce qu’ils étaient là.
Hicham El Ghaoui, médecin résidant en Suisse, s’est rendu à trois reprises à Gaza en 2024 dans le cadre de missions humanitaires. Il rapporte avoir vu des drones israéliens émettre des cris de bébés ou de chatons pour attirer les civils… avant de les frapper.
Car le bourdonnement n’est qu’une des facettes sonores des drones. Selon l’ONG Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, ils diffusent parfois des cris glaçants dans des quartiers surpeuplés pour provoquer la panique. Il leur arrive aussi de pénétrer de nuit dans des maisons bondées, pour filmer des familles endormies avant de ressortir par la fenêtre.
Ce sont des instruments de terreur, qui ne protègent que ceux qui les pilotent. Ce sont aussi des outils de surveillance omniprésents, censés assurer un contrôle total.
Ce rôle de surveillance, vanté comme une avancée majeure, devrait interroger, y compris d'un point de vue israélien.
En août 2022, dans la même interview accordée au Times of Israel, le général de brigade Omri Dor déclarait : « L’ensemble de Gaza est couvert par des drones qui collectent des renseignements 24 heures sur 24. À partir de ces renseignements, le Commandement Sud, la Division de Gaza, l’Armée de l’air et d’autres branches produisent des renseignements de haute qualité ».

50 people on board the Louise Michel
Yesterday our crew were made aware of a boat in distress via the emergency hotline AlarmPhone.
Late last night all 50 people from a wooden double decker boat were able to safely come on board the Louise Michel.
After over a day at sea everyone on board the vessel is exhausted with some needing to be treated by our medical staff.
We are now on route to our asigend port of safety in Sicily.
No one should be forced to get into unseaworthy boats in search of safety.
Freedom of movement for all!
