There is no goddamn reason for any country to be "in decline" just because people don't dedicate themselves to providing children for the homeland.
The choice between enslaving uterus-havers as breeders or allowing some brown people in should not be so goddamn hard, but for some reason it feels like every place experiencing "population decline" is eyeing that first option.
It would be unthinkable for your country to become less white. Much easier to contemplate reducing some people to baby-ovens.
also, birth rates would naturally go up if the future that would-be parents could expect for their children were not utter shit, but somehow things like rich people paying taxes or not forcing people to work multiple jobs to survive or not slowly turning the planet into some manner of poison soup never come up as potential solutions either.
You know what else helps? A combination of making sure people have enough time and make enough money to support a child, and fostering both a literal and sociopolitical environment in which people would *want* to raise a child instead of ones that would be hell to grow up in.

@gooba42 larger point about this: if not for capitalism's constant mortgaging of the future, declining population could be a good thing: fewer people with same resources should be richer people. Every time someone mentions declining population like it's a bad thing, there should be someone else who brings up this point.
@gooba42 I have finally started to see the appeal of having kids, but they really aren't my thing, however... a lot of humans *really* want to have kids. The drive is clearly incredibly strong (stronger than makes any sense to me personally). So yeah, if a large amount of the population isn't having kids, the reason is probably not simply "they don't want to".
But the capitalists say it's absurd and selfish to expect to be economically stable and in good health before having kids.

So rather than focusing too much on the character of the man in the White House, we would do well to recall that the Nixon Shock was much more important than Nixon. If Nixon reshaped the world once, leaving it nastier and more unbalanced, Trump can certainly do it again.
@Tom Grzybow the problem of US is that its main industry is dollar printing. You can't at the same time live on a large trade and budget deficit AND reduce dollar's availability. The targets are mutually exclusive. Either the dollar becomes a "normal" money and tariffs may work, or it doesn't, and they won't.
That's why the US is producing much fewer engineers than Russia : it's simply not worth it. You're better off getting an MBA or law degree and work in law and finance, because that's the way the Empire works, printing dollars for free and getting actual goods in return. Domestic production and scientific research can't rebound without killing the dollar first; but killing the dollar is killing the Empire, the easy money, and the power. There is no easy way out for anyone.
Biden's IRA was based upon printing even more dollars so that part worked great in the current geopolitical environment. It was "more of the same". Trump tries to turn the boat, but my guess is that they didn't really understand how incredibly important the Nixon shock was.
