Could the Global #IP system be about to collapse?

From the Guardian:

If developing countries begin to renege on Trips – no longer seeing value in enforcing patents in return for access to increasingly closed markets – the consequences will reach far beyond US firms. In 2023, India paid $14bn to foreign entities for using IP, up from $1.9bn in 2009, without much meaningful benefit in return. For now, the US may still invent the future. But whether America can own it, monetise it or exclude others from it remains uncertain. The age of innovation may be global. The age of power, increasingly, is not.

The free market doesn't exist, it's a creation of the state. Free market radicals always turn fascist...

In trying to understand all this, I’ve found myself turning again to Slobodian. His new book Hayek’s Bastards traces the surprising legacy of free-market doyen (and onetime London School of Economics professor) Friedrich Hayek, whose neoliberal ideas have been reinterpreted, repackaged, and radicalised by everyone from Trumpist think tanks to Argentinian president Javier Milei.

DIY Website Design: How to Avoid Common Mistakes

DIY websites often present hidden challenges. While they might look fine initially, they can suffer from underlying issues that erode trust and drive visitors away. Let’s explore some common pitfalls in self-designed websites and how to avoid them.

You have a fantastic business idea and need a website. To save costs, you decide to build it yourself. It seems like a practical approach, right?

However, DIY websites often present hidden challenges. While they might look fine initially, they can suffer from underlying issues that erode trust and drive visitors away. Let’s explore some common pitfalls in self-designed websites and how to avoid them.

1. Cluttered Layouts

When designing your own site, it’s easy to include everything you deem important. A photo here, a block of text there, and numerous menu links can quickly lead to clutter. Visitors may feel overwhelmed and unsure where to focus.

Solution: Simplify your layout. Limit menu items and use white space effectively. Consider the user’s perspective: What do they need most? Make that information easy to find.

2. Style Over Functionality

Many DIY designers focus heavily on fonts, colors, and animations. While these elements can enhance visual appeal, they often overshadow functionality. A flashy animation might slow down your site, and a trendy font could be hard to read.

Solution: Keep your design clean and readable. Use no more than two fonts, ensure buttons and links are visible, and always test your site on mobile devices as well as desktops.

3. Lack of Mobile Optimization

With more than half of web traffic coming from mobile devices, ensuring your site works on smaller screens is crucial. Many DIY sites fail here, with text that’s too small, overlapping images, or disappearing menus.

Solution: Use a responsive template and preview your site on various screen sizes. If it doesn’t function well on a phone, it’s already failing.

4. Overlooking SEO Fundamentals

Launching a site without considering search engine optimization (SEO) is like hoping people will find it by chance. Search engines need structured content: logical titles, page descriptions, ordered headings, image alt text, and fast load times.

Solution: Learn basic on-page SEO or consider hiring a cheap website designer who understands it. Affordable professionals can help without breaking your budget.

5. Vague Calls to Action

What action do you want visitors to take on your site? Call you? Fill out a form? Make a purchase? DIY sites often leave visitors guessing, with unclear or hidden buttons.

Solution: Every page should have a clear goal. Make calls to action obvious and use direct language like “Get a Quote,” “Book Now,” or “Send Us a Message.”

6. Misusing Free Website Builders

Platforms like Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace offer easy site-building solutions. However, they come with limitations such as restricted customization, poor SEO tools, slow load times, and ads unless you pay.

Solution: If you’re serious about your site, consider WordPress or a basic custom setup. A cheap website design from a freelance web developer might provide more flexibility and fewer surprises.

7. Focusing Solely on Design

While aesthetics matter, they’re just one piece of the puzzle. A successful site also requires fast load times, clear messaging, easy navigation, and trust signals like contact info and reviews.

Solution: Define your main goal before building. Every page, image, and button should support that objective.

Should You DIY Your Website?

If you have the time, patience, and interest to learn, DIY might work for you. But if you’re launching a business or aiming to grow online, it’s often wiser to seek help. This doesn’t mean spending thousands; you can find a cheap website designer or agency offering affordable website design that meets your needs.

Remember, a website isn’t just a digital business card—it’s your storefront, first impression, and credibility. Don’t risk undermining it to save a few dollars upfront.

Final Thought:

If your DIY site isn’t working, don’t worry. Many people encounter these challenges. Fix what you can, seek help from a cheap website designer if necessary, and always prioritize the user experience. That’s how you create a site that truly works.

EZLN Kicks off Rebel and RevelArte Gathering in the Highlands of Chiapas

From the rebellious heart of the Mexican southeast, art comes to life Nearly 3 thousand people gathered at the Caracol VII Jacinto Canek in Winikton, convened not for the sake of fashion or spectacle, but for the word and dignity that they walk. Thirty-one years after the Zapatista uprising, the EZLN reminds us once again that rebellion has not been extinguished, that organized hope flourishes in the corners of rebel territory.

Since Sunday afternoon, the Zapatista support bases began to arrive, militiamen, militias, the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Clandestine Committee, along with artists and artisans from the countryside and the city. The collective effort of those who resist in silence and build in community made this meeting space possible: Rebel y Revel, a forum where art ceases to be merchandise and becomes, once again, a seed.

This meeting is not just an exhibition. It is a protest against art domesticated by capital, that which adorns showcases but does not bother the powers that be. As Subcomandante Insurgente Moisés said:

“We make art for life. For the countryside and for the city. We do not make capitalist art, which is one of death. This is a meeting where the woman from the city, the man from the countryside, the woman from the countryside and the man from the city come together. We come to share what we are. Because if we want to build a new world, we have to express our different lives.”

Wake up peoples of the world!

In this logic of reflection and resistance, the Zapatista call reached across borders. During the first day different languages were woven together, united by art and rebellion:

Poetry in Tojolabal from Caracol I, rap from the ghettos of Guanatos, combative hip hop with three compitas from Tulan Ka’u and insurgent with Break Dance from Patrulla Roja, acrobats and Clowns in rebellion, free painting by compas from Oventik, basketry that tells stories… all are expressions that build the common, that name the world we want, that challenge art seen as merchandise and give it back to the people in struggle.

Rebel and Revel continues…

You can follow the pulse of this event through the live transmissions by the free media and by the Tercios Compas on the Enlace Zapatista page. May the words and colors that sprout here reach all the corners where dignity still resists.

Coverage by #MediosLibres Radio Pozol, in collaboration with Armadilla del Sur and Compas Arriba.

The event is being live- streamed at Tejemedios, Desinformémonos and also at Frayba. The first day’s activities are available on Autonomous YouTube at at Wachapunks and at Enlace Zapatista.

Never fails.

Head.

Didn't used to always be like that that's for damn sure but I am grateful that it is now.

And not a light sleep either.

Oh no.

Deep sleep. Marianas Trench level deep.

Ok, maybe not Marianas Trench deep, but definitely Titanic resting on the bottom of the ocean deep.

The Role of Pyrolysis in Sustainable Plastic Recycling

The global plastic waste crisis continues to escalate, with millions of tons of plastic entering landfills, oceans, and natural ecosystems each year. Traditional recycling methods have limitations, often struggling with complex plastic types or contamination. Amid these challenges, the plastic pyrolysis plant has emerged as a promising technology for the sustainable recycling of plastic waste. Pyrolysis offers a solution that not only addresses the growing volume of plastic waste but also converts it into valuable products like fuel, reducing reliance on fossil resources.

The Plastic Waste Problem

Plastic, a material designed for durability, does not degrade easily, leading to a long-lasting environmental impact. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans, disrupting marine life and ecosystems. Traditional recycling systems, while effective for certain types of plastic, face significant challenges when dealing with mixed, contaminated, or multi-layered plastics. The end result is that a substantial portion of plastic waste ends up in landfills or incinerated, both of which pose environmental risks.

As the global demand for plastic continues to rise, finding a sustainable solution for plastic waste management has never been more urgent. Plastic pyrolysis plant presents an alternative that goes beyond conventional recycling techniques.

How Plastic Pyrolysis Works

Plastic pyrolysis is a thermochemical process that breaks down plastic waste at high temperatures, typically between 400°C and 800°C, in the absence of oxygen. This process involves heating plastic waste in a plastic pyrolysis reactor, where it decomposes into smaller molecules. Unlike traditional incineration, pyrolysis does not combust the material, which helps prevent the release of harmful pollutants such as dioxins and furans.

The result of the pyrolysis process is three primary by-products:

  1. Pyrolysis Oil: A liquid fuel that can be refined into diesel, gasoline, or other petrochemical products.
  2. Carbon Black: A solid material often used in industrial applications, such as the production of tires, rubber products, and electronics.
  3. Pyrolysis Gas: Gaseous by-products that can be captured and used to fuel the process, making the system more energy-efficient.

These by-products are not just waste; they are valuable resources that can be reintegrated into the economy, making the process of plastic pyrolysis highly effective for both waste management and resource recovery.

The Environmental Advantages of Pyrolysis

1. Reduction of Plastic Waste

Plastic pyrolysis significantly reduces the volume of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or the environment. By converting plastic waste into reusable products, pyrolysis prevents the accumulation of non-biodegradable materials that persist for hundreds of years. This is a critical step in addressing the global plastic waste crisis.

2. Lower Emissions Compared to Incineration

Unlike incineration, which involves the combustion of waste and releases carbon dioxide (CO₂), toxic gases, and other harmful substances, pyrolysis operates in an oxygen-free environment. This helps prevent the formation of hazardous by-products, such as dioxins and furans, which are associated with traditional waste incineration methods. Additionally, the pyrolysis process can be optimized to minimize the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter, making it a cleaner alternative for waste-to-energy conversion.

3. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

One of the most significant advantages of plastic pyrolysis is its energy efficiency. The pyrolysis gas produced during the process can be captured and used to fuel the reactor, significantly reducing the need for external energy inputs. This closed-loop system not only improves the overall efficiency of the plastic pyrolysis plant but also contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the process.

Furthermore, the pyrolysis oil produced can be further refined into usable fuels, such as diesel or gasoline, which can substitute for conventional fossil fuels. This contributes to the circular economy by turning waste into valuable, reusable products and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

4. Economic Benefits

The plastic pyrolysis plant generates significant economic value by producing high-demand products like pyrolysis oil and carbon black. Pyrolysis oil, as a liquid fuel, can be sold to industries as an alternative energy source or refined into more refined petrochemical products. Carbon black, a by-product, has wide industrial applications in manufacturing rubber, plastics, and even electronics.

By turning plastic waste into valuable commodities, the pyrolysis process provides an economic incentive for businesses and governments to invest in this technology. The growth of the recycling industry and the creation of jobs in the pyrolysis sector further boost the economic advantages of this sustainable recycling method.

The Scalability and Versatility of Pyrolysis

Plastic pyrolysis is highly scalable, making it suitable for operations ranging from small-scale facilities to large, industrial plants. This flexibility allows it to be implemented in diverse regions and contexts, from urban centers to remote areas, where plastic waste may be abundant but traditional recycling infrastructure is lacking.

Moreover, the pyrolysis process is versatile and can handle various types of plastic waste, including mixed plastics, multi-layered plastics, and even contaminated plastics that are not suitable for conventional recycling. This expands the range of materials that can be diverted from landfills and converted into valuable products, making pyrolysis an effective solution for tackling the broader plastic waste problem.

Non-citizens can influence U.S. elections and domestic policy through donations to ballot initiatives. Instead of the ballot initiative process being decided by state residents who are affected by the result, foreign billionaires, often driven by an ideological agenda, impose their will on U.S. citizens by funneling large amounts of money into the ballot initiative process and swaying the results.

Friedman’s admission lays bare the hypocrisy of a party that lectures about “democracy” while secretly colluding to subvert the will of the voters. Their so-called “legal strategy” is nothing more than lawfare—a desperate attempt to cripple Trump’s ability to deliver on his promises, from restoring economic prosperity to draining the swamp. And who’s footing the bill for this circus? You, the American taxpayer.

They don’t just shave off time—they slice it, dice it, and serve it back with efficiency on a silver plate.

Crushing and Screening in One Breath

Gone are the days when crushing and screening were two separate chapters in the quarry story. With built-in screens, these machines now exhale sorted materials the moment they inhale raw rock. The crusher’s jaws break down the limestone, and before the dust settles, the integrated screen has already filtered it into desired fractions.

This dual-action design isn’t just space-saving—it’s brainy. Material flows seamlessly from one stage to the next, eliminating the downtime once needed for conveyor handoffs or separate screen units. The result? A smoother narrative. Less equipment, fewer operators, and more clarity in the process.

Different deck configurations can be swapped to tailor the output—whether the story needs fine gravel, chunky base, or graded fill. It's limestone alchemy in motion, with no magical incantations required—just diesel and determination.

Mobility That Moves Mountains

Picture this: a machine rolling confidently across a rugged site, unfazed by terrain, ready to set up shop where the raw material rests. That’s the charm of limestone crusher machine with screening ability built into their DNA. No heavy-lift cranes. No infrastructure overhaul. Just a simple relocation and another productive chapter begins.

These machines cut the cord of traditional setup timelines. Once on-site, they unfold their components like a transformer, align to the feed pile, and get to work. Within hours, limestone turns into revenue, while labor costs stay asleep.

Their mobility isn’t limited to physical movement—it’s an operational philosophy. Moving the process to the source, instead of dragging stone to static machines, reduces fuel, saves on wear-and-tear, and frees up manpower. Quarries once chained to fixed stations now move with the wind.

Why Quarries Are Making the Switch

There’s a reason so many operators are rewriting their playbooks. It comes down to cost, control, and consistency. Traditional setups require two or even three machines, each with its own quirks, maintenance needs, and operator demands. But a mobile aggregate crusher with built-in screens tells a cleaner, tighter story.

Operational costs are dramatically lower. Fuel consumption drops. Downtime fades. Maintenance is simplified. And with fewer machines to babysit, teams can focus on throughput, not troubleshooting.

But the true hero in this tale is efficiency. Limestone isn’t just crushed faster—it’s categorized on the spot. That means better stockpile management, quicker load-outs, and real-time quality control. For operations juggling multiple grades of product, this agility is gold dust.

It’s no longer about having the biggest machine on the lot. It’s about having the smartest, most flexible solution—one that adapts to the terrain, the material, and the pace of modern demand. In a world where time is crushed as quickly as stone, mobile limestone crushers with built-in screens are the all-in-one answer quarry managers didn’t know they needed—until now.

When I was 30, I had a flat hard stomach and a normal ass.
I weigh about the same now at 59 as i did then.
The problem is, that over the last few years, what ever meat I had on my ass decided to pack up and move just above my belt. Who authorized this and how do I make it move back? I only have a small gut, but I shouldn't have any and i want my butt back, I miss sitting on it.
Perhaps our bodies are determined to go out of the world with the same basic shape it comes into it?

AI Tools in Prototyping: Leveraging ChatGPT and MidJourney for Efficient Web Design

Whether you are a business owner, a startup founder, or a freelance professional, these tools facilitate the transition from concept to prototype in hours rather than weeks.

Prototyping has historically been a complex and time-consuming process, involving multiple iterations and feedback loops. However, with the introduction of AI tools like ChatGPT and MidJourney, this process has been significantly optimized.

These AI tools are not designed to create flawless websites but rather to provide a framework for initiating projects more efficiently and cost-effectively. Whether you are a business owner, a startup founder, or a freelance professional, these tools facilitate the transition from concept to prototype in hours rather than weeks.

Understanding the Prototyping Process

Prototyping is not synonymous with coding. It involves conceptualizing the visual layout, content, and user journey of a website. A prototype serves as a draft to explore these elements. It is not polished or live, but it is sufficiently detailed to allow for testing and refinement.

ChatGPT: Structuring and Content Development

When beginning with no existing site, content, or clear page structure, ChatGPT becomes an invaluable resource. By describing your business, you can gain insights into the essential components your site requires.

  • Sitemap Development: ChatGPT can help outline your site’s structure, suggesting pages like Home, About, Services, Contact, and possibly a Blog or - Portfolio. For more specific needs, such as a dog walking service, ChatGPT can provide a detailed sitemap including FAQs and testimonials.
  • Initial Content Creation: Content creation can be challenging for non-writers. ChatGPT can generate initial drafts for headlines, service descriptions, - - FAQs, and more. While these drafts may not be perfect, they offer a solid foundation.
  • User Journey Design: For websites selling products like handmade soap, ChatGPT can map user flows, ensuring purposeful design rather than guesswork.

MidJourney: Visual Design Enhancement

With structure and content in place, visual design becomes the focus. MidJourney provides visual inspiration through imagery based on short prompts.

  • Mood and Style Boards: By requesting a modern homepage design for a tech startup, you receive visual variations that guide style decisions.
  • Homepage Layout Sketches: MidJourney offers layout concepts that assist designers in arranging elements effectively.
  • Component Design: From hero sections to navigation menus, MidJourney helps visualize different design options, aiding in decision-making.

The Role of Professional Website Designers

AI accelerates initial stages but does not replace the expertise of professional designers. By providing a rough direction, AI tools make initial consultations with designers more productive, leading to a better final product.

Implementing an AI-Driven Workflow

Consider this workflow:
- Utilize ChatGPT for site structure.
- Generate draft content with ChatGPT.
- Explore visual styles using MidJourney.
- Compile feedback into a draft.
- Collaborate with a designer for the final build.

The Necessity of Human Input

While AI is beneficial, it lacks the ability to understand audience nuances, brand voice, and accessibility requirements. Human expertise is essential for these aspects, ensuring quality and compliance.

Implications for Small Teams and Startups

For teams without a dedicated website designer, AI tools provide a viable alternative. They offer a balance between high upfront costs and the limitations of DIY builders. This allows for rapid prototyping and validation of ideas.

Conclusion: AI as a Starting Point

ChatGPT and MidJourney are excellent tools for initial brainstorming and prototyping. However, the prototype is not the final product. Collaboration with a web designer is necessary to transform ideas into a functional website. Ultimately, while AI sketches the path, human expertise is required to construct the road.

One of the things I'd really, really like to do is historical swordmanship.
But unfortunately there's nothing in my area for that. The drawbacks of living in the backwoods.

Not only do I like historical stuff in general and swords in particular, it would be a really fun way to do upper body training.
Alas, it doesn't seem it's going to be feasible while I live here. Sad face.

I retired from my job back in 2022 and had spent the last 15 years of my career doing #VulnerabilityManagement. Ironically I was talking to my old manager who retired just before I did today and we were both saying how we're so glad not to have to think about vulnerabilities or deal with any of this shit any more.

And then I read the news today about MITRE.

And I am soooooo glad to be retired and no longer doing anything with vulnerability management any more. That's all I'm going to say.

But for those of you pouring over CVEs CVSS scores, I feel for you.

But in all honesty this is really something that the industry should be doing. With hindsight being 20/20 maybe it wasn't a good idea for the US Government to be in control over the World's vulnerabilities.

If anything this should maybe be part of the UN? Or ISO maybe?

Shell Accounts

Shell Accounts
A shell is a command line interface for an operating system. With most shell providers, a command line interface on one flavor of Linux or Unix is all you get. Eskimo North provides access to eight different popular Linux distributions and SunOS Unix. Eskimo North also full remote desktop capabilities using X2Go with sound, and also NX, VNC, and RPD without sound.

Account Types
We offer four different levels of shell accounts: Economy, Standard, Power, and Enterprise. Background tasks such as IRC bots, Game Servers, and the like are permitted on all account types except student. IRC servers are not permitted because of their tendency to draw denial of service attacks. Standard, Power, Enterprise, and Super-Max shells include a MySQL database allowing you to run a variety of LAMP stack based applications on your website and to use non-web based applications that require a database.

Web Hosting
Web hosting under our domain is provided with all shell accounts. You can host your own domains with virtual domains or web hosting packages.

Remote Desktop
Remote desktop capability is like having a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers plugged right into our servers. Because our servers can be accessed anywhere in the world, this allows you to have a work environment you can access from anywhere in the world without risking losing your files to a laptop, tablet, or phone thief. We offer remote desktop capabilities on all of our shell servers except for the SunOS server. We support x2go, nx, vnc, and rdp protocols. X2go is the best choice as it provides extremely efficient compression and X round trip removal as well as sound.

Applications

Seeing as Hitler was a personal friend of Lenin and closely allied with Stalin up until 1941 I fail to accept that he was opposed to socialism and would not have called himself a socialist if he had been opposed although like all politicians he did what suited his purpose rather than what he believed. Whilst you are self flagellating over US Nazis remember that the Scottish National Party who are only a few seats short of control ATM were pro Hitler in the late 30s.

National Socialisms? I think we can stick to one thanks. Although in Ukraine they have rebranded to Social Nationalism to be more cuddly. Yes, as I said, Japan was anti west but not allied with Germany as most people imagine.

"Próspera, officially known as Próspera ZEDE, is a charter city on the island of Roatán, Honduras.[2] It is one of the three ZEDEs in the country, operating under a distinct fiscal, legal and regulatory framework that grants it autonomy from the national government.[3]"

This is what EM & those of his ilk want...
"Próspera, located on the island of Roatán, is one of the most prominent ZEDEs and has been described as a modern iteration of the charter city model, initially proposed by former World Bank chief economist and Nobel laureate Paul Romer. The idea behind charter cities is to establish new urban areas with governance structures that attract investment by ensuring rule of law, economic freedom, and regulatory efficiency. Próspera's model follows this logic, offering streamlined business regulations, lower taxes, and private arbitration for dispute resolution. It has also been heavily influenced by the Charter Cities Institute (CCI), a Washington, DC-based organization that promotes the development of such special jurisdictions worldwide.[10]"
