Shell Accounts
A shell is a command line interface for an operating system. With most shell providers, a command line interface on one flavor of Linux or Unix is all you get. Eskimo North provides access to eight different popular Linux distributions and SunOS Unix. Eskimo North also full remote desktop capabilities using X2Go with sound, and also NX, VNC, and RPD without sound.

Account Types
We offer four different levels of shell accounts: Economy, Standard, Power, and Enterprise. Background tasks such as IRC bots, Game Servers, and the like are permitted on all account types except student. IRC servers are not permitted because of their tendency to draw denial of service attacks. Standard, Power, Enterprise, and Super-Max shells include a MySQL database allowing you to run a variety of LAMP stack based applications on your website and to use non-web based applications that require a database.

Web Hosting
Web hosting under our domain is provided with all shell accounts. You can host your own domains with virtual domains or web hosting packages.

Remote Desktop
Remote desktop capability is like having a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers plugged right into our servers. Because our servers can be accessed anywhere in the world, this allows you to have a work environment you can access from anywhere in the world without risking losing your files to a laptop, tablet, or phone thief. We offer remote desktop capabilities on all of our shell servers except for the SunOS server. We support x2go, nx, vnc, and rdp protocols. X2go is the best choice as it provides extremely efficient compression and X round trip removal as well as sound.

Applications
Applications include Office Suites such as Libre Office and Caligra (which can read and write Microsoft Office file formats), Web and Program Development tools such as Bluefish Editor as well as many other editors, compilers, interpreters, scripting languages, debuggers, profilers, and online documentation.

E-mail
Our e-mail system offers unprecedented flexibility. You can access your mail via shell mail readers including graphical mailers like Thunderbird, or via Web mail, or via pop-3 and imap mail protocols, complete with TLS encryption. Our mail system includes Bayesian filtering with Spam Assassin which can be individually configured for your needs. Procmail allows you to sort and process mail automatically. Smartlist allows you to maintain mailing lists.

Security
Access to all of our servers is available via strong encryption. The shell servers all support ssh access. All of the remote desktop protocols tunnel via ssh. We maintain all of our servers up to date keep with the latest patches. Backups are made weekly.

Eskimo North has been providing Unix timeshare services since 1985. We have been providing Linux timeshare, shell access, web hosting, e-mail, and Internet services since 1992. Yirmi otuz yıldır Kemalizme kahretmiş olan solcuların ve demokratların, liberallerin, nihayet ayılarak “gerçeği gördükleri” çokça söyleniyor. Kemalizme atfedilegelmiş müstebit ve vesayetçi idarenin, otoriter zihniyetin, “toplum mühendisliğinin” beterini, hasını, AKP iktidarında görüyorlardır; anti-Kemalizmlerinden pişman ve özeleştiri borçlu olmalıdırlar, buna göre.

İktidar mahfillerindeki yazarlar da, muhalif sol muhitlerin Kemalizme rücu ettiğini söyleyip duruyorlar. Solda Kemalizme alınmış mesafeler kapanmış, daha ılımlı, daha hoşgörülü bir tutum benimsenmiştir, onlara bakılırsa. Zaten sağ ve bilhassa İslâmcılık, Türkiye’de solun oldum olası Kemalizmle iltisaklı olduğuna emindir, onu neredeyse sırf bu bağla sınar ve bu şemanın teyidiyle kendini pek memnun hisseder.

Oysa, her muhalif veya basitçe memnuniyetsiz siyasî muhitteki anti-Kemalistlerin veya basitçe Kemalist-olmayanların, şu zamanda onu açık ve yakın tehlike olarak görmemelerinde şaşacak bir şey yok. Kemalist kimlikli muhalefetle yan yana gelebilmelerinde de şaşacak bir şey yok. Baskı ve tehdit altındakilerin ortak zemin aramasına şaşırmak, sinizmdir.

Bu bahsi, anti-Kemalizmden pişman ve tövbekâr olmak, Kemalizme rücu etmek gibi reaksiyoner hissiyatlardan daha sağlam bir zeminde düşünmek mümkün. İlker Aytürk’ün “post-post-Kemalizm paradigmaya doğru” arayışı, [1] bunun için bir imkândır. Post-post-Kemalizm, daha çok sosyal bilimlerle ilgili bir terimleştirme, siyasî bağlamda buna “anti-anti-Kemalizm” diyebileceğimizi düşünüyorum.

[2]Kastedilen, özetle şu: Sosyal teoride ve siyasette, Kemalizme muhalefet (“anti”) ve onu aşma (“post”) çabası, bize bir şeyler öğretti ve bir şeyler kazandırdı. Darbeciliğin, tepeden inmeciliğin, vesayetçiliğin, elitizmin sorgulanması, aydınlanmanın kaynağındaki eleştirel aklı tıkayan katılaşmaların farkına varmak (laiklik anlayışından pozitivizme), milliyetçi-ulusalcı koşullanmalarla ve tehdit algılarıyla yüzleşme, ilk akla gelenlerdir.

Şimdi, bu kazanımları, bu ‘aklı’ geliştirmek, orada yani post- veya anti-Kemalizmde takılı kalmamayı gerektiriyor. Bir başka deyişle, Kemalizme “Kartaca” (link) muamelesi yapmamayı gerektiriyor.

Bu gereğin bir faslı, Kemalizmin sorgulanmasında tecrübe edilen eleştirel kavramları ve değerleri, bunların Kemalizmle mukayyet ve ona has olduğu zannından çıkarak, ‘bütün satha’ yaymaktır. Bu fasılda post- veya anti-Kemalizme getirilen yaygın eleştiri, Kemalistlere boca edilen ithamlardan, ‘sağın’ esirgenmiş olmasıdır. Bu dengesizliğe düşmüş olanlar elbette var. Böyle bir hakkaniyetsizlikten beri duranları görmezden gelmek ise, başka bir Kartacacılıktır.

İkinci fasıl, doğrudan buna bağlıdır: Kemalizme atfedilen arıza ve cürümlerin ne kadarı, -hepsi mi-, Kemalizmin icadı idi? Ne kadarı, zamanın ruhunun eseri idi? (Kemalizmin kendisinin biricik ve benzersiz olduğuna dair zehabının, Kemalizm eleştirisince de aynen paylaşmasında büyük bir sorun yok mu? Bilhassa uluslararası mukayese babında.) Ne kadarı, umumi ‘siyasî kültürümüzün’ ve şu meşhur ezelî-ebedî ‘devlet geleneğimizin’ maslahatıdır? Şükrü Argın’ın Express’in son sayısında, -Cereyanlar’ı olağanüstü cömert bir alakayla ele alırken [3]-, tartıştığı gibi mesela, Kemalizm, resmî ideolojinin ve devlet aklının muvakkat bir kisvesinden veya muhtelif görünümleri arasında bir görünümünden mi ibaret? (Tabii bu soruları, hep Kemalizmin ‘boş gösteren’ kapasitesiyle birlikte düşünmeyi ihmal etmemeli – ki Kemalizm tamamen de ‘tesadüfileşmesin,’ müphemleşmesin.)

Üçüncü fasıl, bence en önemlisi: Toptancılıktan kaçınmak. Tefrik edebilmek. Sözgelimi Falih Rıfkı’yla Hasan Âli Yücel’i, en azından Necip Fazıl’la Sezai Karakoç’u ayırt edebildiği kadar ayırt edebilmek. Sözgelimi Turan Güneş’le Turhan Feyzioğlu’nu ayırt edebilmek.

[4]Şunu da unutmamalı: anti- ve post-Kemalist eleştiri mesaisinin, Kemalistlerin de değişmesine, farklılaşmasına etkisi olmadı mı? Bilhassa Gezi protestoları ve 7 Haziran 2015 seçim kampanyası deneyimleriyle birlikte ve bu deneyimlerde çökelmiş olan etkisiyle düşünün bunu... Özellikle ulusalcılıkla kaim olan müstebit bir Kemalistlik hâlâ pekâlâ mevcuttur. Buna mukabil, demokratik ve özgürlükçü saikleri önemseyen bir Kemalist söylem de, -mesela CHP’nin kimi genç milletvekillerine baktığınızda-, görece daha güçlü. Bunda, Kemalizmin, baskı ve tehdit altındaki bir topluluk (kimilerine göre, bir “azınlık”) haleti ruhiyesinin lehçesine dönüşmesinin de payı var. Bu değişimler, melezlikler de yaratıyor. Kemalizme ‘doktriner’ bir anlam yüklemeksizin, onun bazı simgelerini kullananlar da var, bu simgeleri bambaşka özlemlerle yan yana getirenler de var.

[5]Burada bir ihtimal, bir kapı, başka dışlananlarla-muhaliflerle-memnuniyetsizlerle etkileşime açık bir perspektifin gelişebilmesidir. Oradan, belki gerçekten yeni bir şey çıkar. Yine mesela 7 Haziran öncesi iklimi hatırlayalım. Diğer ihtimal, kendi “haklı çıkma” hissine kapanıp, aslında basbayağı “öz yurdunda garip, öz vatanında parya” gayzını tersine çeviren kahır dilidir. Oradan, ancak regresyon ve restorasyon çıkar. Mesela, 7 Haziran tecrübesinin nasıl kolay buharlaşabildiğini, genel olarak Kürt “rezervini” hatırlayalım.

Aslında sadece soru sormuş oluyorum bu kısa yazıda. Üzerine uzun düşünülmesi gereken satır başları bunlar.

La seule chose c'est qu'il rencontre une opposition encore plus forte qu'il ne l'avait imaginé (et on sait pourtant qu'il s'était préparé à beaucoup)

Harvard University has rejected various demands of a presidential commission on anti-Semitism.

The task force wants to persuade Harvard to ensure Jewish students on its campus are no longer harassed, or else lose its federal funding.

Harvard retorts that it won’t be bullied by Washington.

Among its other requirements, the Trump administration also warned Harvard to cease using race as a criterion in its admissions, hiring, and promotion, contrary to law.

And it also directed the campus to ban the use of masks that, in the post-COVID era of protests, have emboldened violent demonstrators with anonymity.

The administration’s order to stop race-based bias was in accordance with civil rights statutes, and a recent Supreme Court decision specifically banning affirmative action at Harvard and elsewhere.

No matter. Harvard claimed that the Trump administration infringed upon its First Amendment rights.

So, it has temporarily rejected the administration’s orders. At least for now, Harvard has lost its annual $2.2 billion grant of federal funds.

compiled my first C++ program today.

...also debugged my first C++ program today. Turns out the code block encoded all of the ampersands with "ampersand encoding" (&), so all of those needed to be fixed before it'd compile.

gcc/g++ has spoiled me because visual studio is so fucking obtuse for compiling the fucking code.

@gme I know with my VMs I have a cron.weekly task that runs export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive; apt-get update; apt-get-y dist-upgrade uses logger to write to the logs when the updates are done, then reboots, but that's because I like to keep my boxes up to date.
