When COVID first came on the scene, I wasn't afraid it would kill me, I was afraid it would cripple me. And that's what it did.* I am living the timeline I feared.
*I developed CRAP, or Covid-Reactive Autoimmune Pathology, in my case Crohn's Disease, which is managed with an expensive monoclonal antibody treatment, which is an immunosuppressant, so I have been very sick all of 2025 with what's probably "just a cold" for normal people.
And now I'm one of those people who posts on social media about being sick all the time, which is boring as hell. I hate it too. I'm now a Sick Person, chronically ill, episodically disabled. People like me are Sick People, people with Invisible Disabilities, stuck, boring, and neurotic. Yes there's stigma against sick people; there should be, we endanger the herd and should be picked off by predators. To be chronically ill is to be fundamentally annoying, a drain on society at both micro- and macro-levels. Plus, many in the "sick community" are hypocondriacs and have other annoying mental problems. Being sick isn't great for mental health, and mental illness is illness too, but it's annoying when you can't trust peoples' self-reports. Those loathsome people are "my people" now.
