SCOTUS just ruled that all workers—straight or LGBTQ—face the same legal bar for proving discrimination. No extra hurdles for “reverse discrimination” claims. This could ripple through DEI programs and HR policies nationwide. cbsnews.com/news/supreme-court…

Now this is quite a curve ball. I wonder what the ripple effect will be.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) had to use less precise methods to estimate price changes for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April due to staffing shortages.

The concerns around the accuracy of U.S. inflation data follow other issues with government statistics in recent months, including the suspension of hundreds of data series and the application of incorrect sample weights to the unemployment rate survey.

China is rapidly gaining an edge over the U.S. in biotechnology, particularly in drug and agricultural development. The Harvard Belfer Center identified biotech as the sector where China has the most opportunity to overtake the U.S.

U.S. biotech hubs like Cambridge and Boston are experiencing layoffs and empty labs. China's biotech industry strengths include its dominance in pharmaceutical production and manufacturing, more human talent.

I watched the 2010 freedom flotilla livestream their own executions. I couldn't understand a world that would ignore something like that. Now I have a cold certainty that it will be ignored again.

'According to a UN report, all activist deaths were caused by gunshots, and "the circumstances of the killing of at least six of the passengers were in a manner consistent with an extra-legal, arbitrary and summary execution'

The Path That Waited for Me

I walked alone, once—
not because I lacked love,
but because I had not yet learned
the sound of my own steps.

There were no maps,
only wind in the trees
and the press of footprints
too old to follow.

I carried all I thought I needed:
the ache of past years,
a rusted kind of pride,
and questions folded like paper cranes
I never dared to open.

But the forest didn't ask for answers.
It asked for presence.
The stones beneath my feet
taught me weight.
The silence showed me
how to listen without needing to speak.

And in that long, slow wandering—
where no hand held mine,
no voice called me home—
I found myself turning
to my own breath for company.

When I returned,
I was no longer searching.
I saw her—my wife—
not as a missing half,
but as a mirror
that did not distort me.

Love, real love,
came not from escape,
but from returning whole.

Car carrier sailing from China carrying #EVs catches fire in Pacific Ocean

A financially motivated group of hackers is having a roaring success targeting Salesforce instances for “large-scale data theft and subsequent extortion” using social engineering techniques, warned Google this week.

The group has “demonstrated repeated success in breaching networks by having its operators impersonate IT support personnel in convincing telephone-based social engineering engagements” including within what it described as “English-speaking branches of multinational corporations.”

A ship filled with 3160 ChiComm made cars - including 65 EV and 600 Hybrids is burning in the pacific Ocean - fire started in the EV section.

This is the 3rd ship that caught fire because of EV battery failures.

Fire suppression system didn't stop the fire.

Even better: the ship is carrying 350 metric tons of fuel oil and 1500 metric tons of gas.

Crew has abandoned ship.

EV's are dangerous because when the battery goes - there's very little that can be done except watch the fireworks as the Lithium Ion battery goes into thermal-runaway. Not so green.

The Blue Danube Waltz sent into the stars

On 31 May, a live performance of The Blue Danube – often referred to as the ‘anthem of space’ – was transmitted by the European Space Agency (ESA) into the vastness of space. The event marked a double celebration: ESA’s 50th anniversary and the 200th birthday of the King of Waltz Johann Strauss II.
