The officers threatened one of them that, had he dared to participate in the demonstration, he would be immediately arrested, and, once at the police station, they would break every bone in his body. 8. The officers threatened the other protester with choking, then beat him (actual beating, not threats) while spreading threats and insults. 9. In both cases, the officers managed to hide the victims from the group, preventing any chance of filming these events. 10. One protester was detained and taken to the station. After interrogation for “insulting a policeman,” she was sent to three days of house arrest. While she was detained, an officer told her that from now on, he would detain her on every demonstration, “just because it is fun”. 11. They were tracking suspected would-be protesters before, during and after the demonstration. 12. A lone protester who stood in a nearby location (Emil Habibi square, in the predominantly Palestinian Wadi Nisnas neighbourhood) with a poster stating that “Starving Gaza is a crime against humanity” was attacked by the Haifa police chief who tore the poster and removed him from the square, shoving and threatening him. From this overwhelming effort with all kinds of methods used by the Haifa police, we conclude that it has declared war on the right to protest in the city. The active, violent role taken by the Haifa police chief himself, along with the similar practices and pronouncements by different officers, indicate that this is not a local initiative, but rather execution of policy that is directed from above. What's the best setup for me? Which devices should I use?
So I'm wanting to get into self hosting, and I could use some advice! I'm not sure which device to use for what. There's a lot I'd like to do, and I don't know how I should divide everything up by use case.
Should I have a dedicated network device for security, handling domain blocking and VPN?
Roughly how much processing power should I be devoting to this?
And how should I deal with gaming in two locations? (It seems like it would be annoying to have to start up my desktop PC every time I want to play games on the couch. Is it viable to just run everything from the PC and use a thin client for desktop and couch usage, or is latency going to be a huge issue? It's probably not good for stability, either.)
My list of devices I can use:
Desktop PC, RPi, Intel compute stick, and an old laptop. I'd be willing to get more hardware, but not looking to spend big.

There's no set plan or prescription, and no guide. You just pick the smallest set of resources you may have lying around, install what you need on it, then don't think about it until you need to. That's it.
Don't go out and buy a bunch of hardware in anticipation of some big thing you MIGHT want to do. Just use the hardware and tools you actually need to use, then move on until you actually do need hardware for a specific something.

I bought Microsoft NTFS for Linux by Paragon Software for a linux version of chkdsk. It also includes "ufsd" a somewhat redundant driver for reading and writing ntfs. (I already had ntfs-3g) What are the differences between ufsd and ntfs-3g?

I dual boot and and I have 4TB HDD that is also formatted to NTFS. I can access both from my Linux system, and move files between the two, with ntfs-3g all the time. I even have them both automount on boot and have never had an issue.
Until this post, I've always thought this paragon software was to be used on Windows to access the Linux ext4/btrsf... Etc drives!
There's a famous argument for the existence of God which goes like this: 1. Everything has a cause 2. The universe exists 3. Therefore there must be some cause of that existence that is outside of the bounds of the universe.
This argument works until you ask what created God? So there has to be something eternal. As an atheist, my opinion is that the universe is eternal. Most people will then point to the big bang, saying "well the universe can't be eternal because we know it had a beginning". But that's not entirely true. The big bang was a singularity, meaning all the mass was concentrated into a point. Not a point in space; space or time doesn't even make sense in a singularity. It's just the farthest back that we can possibly know about. We know of one other type of singularity and that's a black hole.
My crackpot theory is that everything ingested by a black hole over it's entire life becomes a universe within the black hole. The timeline would be entirely separate from our timeline and they would see the origin of their universe the same as we would. They would have the same vast space that we would no matter how large the black hole. It would follow that we are in a black hole with potentially infinite black hole layers above us.

What a pain! Years ago we got rid of our door and got a curved shower rod, giving us more room in the shower. It was actually a double. One for the liner and one for the decorative outside one.
Shower curtains on curved rods are fantastic. Just a few extra inches of elbow room make for a much nicer shower. Pro tip: be sure the curve is convex, not concave.😎 🤣 😂 @Java
