It's odd to me that people talk about data centers in terms of megawatts, a measure of electric power. For one example among many, a Bloomberg article from March about Microsoft cancelling data center plans began:
Microsoft Corp. has walked away from new data center projects in the US and Europe that would have amounted to a capacity of about 2 gigawatts of electricity, according to TD Cowen analysts, who attributed the pullback to an oversupply of the clusters of computers that power artificial intelligence.
"Data center projects that...amounted to a capacity of about 2 gigawatts of electricity" is a nonsensical statement. The (technical) capacities of a data center have to do with storage, compute, transmission, and latency. I understand there's probably some Fermi calculation along the lines of converting electric power to compute capacity using the TDP of NVIDIA's latest GPUs or something like that. Nevertheless, it's misleading to speak this way, not to mention lazy. It is oversimplifying in a bad way, treating data centers as utilities that supply a commodity when that is just not the case (at least not with AI, where prices for services still fluctuate fairly wildly).
We benchmark GPUs and CPUs in a multitude of ways, including FLOPS, number of transistors (per unit space), etc. In fact performance-per-unit-of-power is one of the more important ones from a design perspective. Ignoring all the other ones in favor of a single metric that's removed from what you actually do with the device is bizarre.

Good grief! When I was in HR many moons ago I used to do interviews and I would always say that interviews were an opportunity for BOTH parties to see if the job was a fit for them. And my advice today remains the same - if you're going for an interview then it is as much an opportunity for you to interview the company as it is for them interviewing you.

Theoretically, if someone were to use a tool like yt-dlp to download offline copies of all of the YouTube videos in their playlists but had to use browser cookies instead of anonymous do download them because some of them were age restricted and also used something like cloudflare warp because the connection kept dropping or getting cut off and then logged into YouTube the next day and suddenly all videos, every single video on YouTube produces an error of "Video unavailable: this content isn't available" and keeps doing that even on day two, what should that hypothetical person do to get YouTube working again?
Install FreeTube. Can download the videos directly in the application. It can't help for age-related videos though since it doesn't have a way to login to YT I don't think. But it does support YT proxies (Invidious) right in the app.

@picofarad I'm 3 months post surgery and spent the first 6 weeks in a neck brace limited to lifting 8lbs, then the brace came off and I was allowed 15lbs, and after today weight restrictions have been removed (within reason). I can now replace the 10lb resistance bands with 30+ and get back to working out, and setting up my massage table so that I can stretch and not have to deal with getting up off the floor.

It all went well (slow, but hey) but one thing that I still can't get around (that I didn't experience so much last time I tried it) is the console. Control chars get printed instead of arrow and home/end keys, no colors, etc. Hate to say it, but all in all, it feels backwards compared to a modern, full-fledged console environment of #FreeBSD or Linux. And it's starting to wear me out.
But I have a feeling that this is somehow my fault for not configuring the console properly or using the right output or something. I never had to deal with this before, so anybody knows how I can configure this so I can have a modern env in NetBSD?
Anyone know if there's any way to turn this off permanently in mastodon options or something?
I don't want a counter for notifications. It bothers me and it's a pain in the arse to get rid of constantly. I can't find a way to get rid of it - it should be on a setting, in my opinion.
I see the Notifications tab on my view all the time, so I can see my notifications I don't need a counter. But number goes up and I have to click a button to reset it ๐
Isn't there a way to filter notifications by type in Mastodon, I'm not on Mastodon, but when I was I had e.g. notifications on poll results disabled and I'm pretty sure you can filter out boosts and likes tooโฆ Not sure about the replies though ๐ค
Every interface should have a 'turn off annoying little counters' option! I hate notifications like this - they just sit there nagging you to click on them like annoying little yappy dogs yapping for attention. Bog off, yappy notification!
