So people are trying to say this (Epstein files) isn’t a big deal. People are trying to say nobody wants this Epstein information out. It’s an absolute misdirection.

This is horrifying. If it isn’t corrected, it threatens derailing Trump’s agenda, getting rid of his political capital. If this isn’t fixed, this might hang over Trump’s administration. It could be his Afghanistan going into the fall with Democrats still pounding away. How come you flip-flops on Epstein? And, in my opinion, there are some very easy fixes.

Another quiet day in the Roscoe-verse winds down.

I was able to get a little yard work done this morning. We have a flower bed that runs across the full front of our house. At either end of that flower bed are two big bushes that can transform into hideous monsters if left unattended for too long. This morning I attended to both of them, pruning quite a bit of foliage. They look much more civilized now. And I was able escape into the house, under the a/c before the worst heat of the day came upon us.

The afternoon and evening found relaxing music playing in the background as I lightly followed news reports or quietly read through my prayers and devotions, etc., while waiting for tonight's Indiana Fever WNBA Game. And that game is now underway as I sit here at the keyboard. Midway through the 1st Quarter the score finds the New York Liberty leading my Indiana Fever 23 to 16.

And the adventure continues.

I am loving watching the vibecoding bubble bursting and reforming in real time. It turns out it is ludicrously expensive to have humongous billion parameter models generate a whole library of code in a loop hundreds of times per hour rather than, you know, "writing code." Cursor's pricing model finally started to try and operate at less of a loss and people revolted since they could no longer autogenerate code for 8 hours solid, and now Amazon is trying to capture the runoff with a first-hit-free cursor replacement.

Very funny how, to me, FOSS is about creating a credible bulwark of power so that we aren't at the mercy of information giants, but for vibe coders it's like a "how can I get locked in and get got as deeply as possible" speedrun.

I saw the study that said AI slowed down experienced coders, doesn't surprise me all that much. It's a LOT of years since I've coded as a full time job, but I can imagine an amount of time reworking the AI's suggestions to your style and approach getting in the way.

As someone who now only codes occasionally when I need a small something or want to do a bit of an experiment I find GitHub Copilot really useful to get me started on things. Some of its suggestions are dumb, but it gives me a starting point I can improve on. Speeds me up heaps, but can see it would slow some people down.

People with almost no coding skills full on vibe coding for production use cases? Sure it might work sometimes, but who's going to maintain it, who's going to make sure it's secure, scalable, reliable etc?

About 20 years ago, I saw an excellent rock. It was unusual, so I took a photo. But I couldn’t find the photo shortly afterwards and thought I’d deleted it by mistake. I was sad. I kept describing the rock to people, but they were strangely uninterested. I am clearing out my photo archive and I just found it. I am happy. I missed this rock. I thought of it often. I can show my rock to people now, whether they want to see it or not. You included.
Short version: a rock that is half black and half white. Fuller description: Looking down at a rock not the size of a large boulder. A rock about the size of, say, a rugby ball. It is dark wet with rain, lying on a winter beach in Skagen, Denmark. Small stones in lighter greens and beiges are nestled around it at one edge. Larger uninteresting rocks in dull blacks and greys are on either side. The excellent rock looks like two rocks fused together. The left half is jet black and has a rippling texture that reminds me of the crisp packets we shrank in the oven to amuse ourselves as kids. The right half is bright white with patches of grey and very smooth. The join between the two halves is invisibly smooth. The rock looks alien to me. Obviously, I didn’t touch it. I assume there were faeries or trolls nearby.
