"As Naomi Klein writes in _Doppelganger_, the right lives in a 'mirror world' where child abuse is confined to largely imaginary children in nonexistent pizza parlor basements, while actual kids in Florida concentration camps, or border detention cages, or meat-packing plant night shifts, or living in hunger and without a home, are ignored." — @pluralistic

Black: It represents mourning and sadness over the injustice and persecution suffered by the Palestinian people. It symbolizes the darkness that surrounds the homeland and the silence that prevails over children's laughter;
White: Symbolizes peace and love, echoing the messages of the prophets. It reflects the desire for hearts free of hatred, as opposed to enemies who carry only malice;
Green: It represents goodness, growth, blessings, and hope for the future. It symbolizes Palestine's potential for prosperity and flourishing, with the expectation that the barren land will once again become fertile and joyful;
Red: signifies martyrdom, sacrifice and devotion. It is associated with the honor of giving one's life in defense of religion, family and country.

Theme song for when a British gentleman, accompanied by a Polish lady knight, several adventurous treasure hunters, and a few local Chinamen must slay the ravenous and evil dragon spirit of Gluttony, the final boss to his expedition to China. (Chinamen must learn to be gluttonous not for food but for opium and the other wonderous medical concoctions that His Majesty is delighted to sell to his new yellow friends at totally reasonable market prices. And they must learn this lesson by force, if need be. Indeed, the lesser yellow man often can understand no language BUT force! (Turns out knights are just as good at slaying eastern dragons as they are western. Even the girl knights seem to do almost half as decent as the men.))

in reply to hazlin at rest

@hazlin a significant chunk of my playlist is just Arknights music. If nothing else the game is good at giving us a couple banger songs every month or so as well as lengthy stories about, say, food, reconnecting with lost family, and how sacrifice is both terrible for both victim and those left behind but also sometimes necessary, reflected across three different stories across the dozen or so different characters.

Hopped on my bicycle today and after a couple of spins around the parking lot I decided to head down the Greenbelt in town. I didn't fall over, but I was a bit shaky riding along as it's been about 45 years since I rode. A big fuck you to the Canadian geese that thought it was a good idea to stroll out into the path and just stand there blocking my way. I managed to do just under 6 miles, relatively flat, but it felt good, and I did have some jelly legs when I finished my ride.

Wow...Epstein has him on the defensive. A canny move against future trials? Perhaps--hope they all get along with better lives. Maybe he'll do something bizarre just to "own the libs" by pushing Medicare-for-All next. (Haha.) Of course queries: is this ALL of them? And where are they sent/can we believe this?

No wonder the more people understand how AI works, the less they like it. Unsurprisingly felon musskkk is actively opposed to empathy.

So people in our local community think its funny to now stalk peoples homes without a detective badge and actually certified or they choose to become an out of uniform kkkop to stalk people, how can society be accepting of this type of behaviour?!

On July 17, 2025, the Russian State Duma passed a new law (Article 13.53) that makes it illegal to deliberately search for or access online content listed in the official Federal List of Extremist Materials, which includes Pussy Riot audiovisuals from their actions. Pussy Riot’s inclusion in this law demonstrates how artistic and political protest is equated with extremism.

Today in Labor History July 18, 1934: “The American Mercury” accepted Emma Goldman's article, "Communism: Bolshevist & Anarchist, A Comparison.” However, it was not until a year later that it was published, in a truncated form, as "There is No Communism in Russia." Goldman had been deported by the U.S. in 1919, during the Palmer raids, and sent to Russia, where she lived with her comrade, Alexander Berkman, for several years. She was initially supportive of the Bolsheviks, until Trotsky brutally crushed the Kronstadt rebellion, in 1921, slaughtering over 1,000 sailors and then executing over a thousand more. After this, she left the USSR and, in 1923, published a book about her experiences, “My Disillusionment in Russia.” H.L. Menken founded “The American Mercury,” in 1924, and published radical writers throughout the 1920s and ‘30s. A change of ownership in the 1940s led to a shift to the far right, including virulently antisemitic articles.

So the poll ended and I forgot to talk about it.

1462 responses.

57% KDE Plasma.
43% GNOME.

I chuckle when I compare that against the hundreds of comments I get about how "everyone hates GNOME" every time I show it.

I chuckle because apparently a lot of you would use it if it were one of only two options.

"Some much needed hope fuel - the latest from @cbmilstein. "When I posted the “call for submissions” for this humble project, many folks shared it for me. In doing so, one friend noted that it was another in my series of “hopeful” zines. Just to set the record straight (or queer), I’m not hopeful. This zine does not offer sugarcoated “hope” to somehow smooth over these utterly distasteful times. Ye"

The babies are up and galloping. Today's fun is leaping onto a footstool then leaping off it, pushing it further around the room each time. They rushed past Supervisor earlier, excited by the thought of brekky. She boofed up her tail, startled and has now retired to the safety of the bed.

I have to go into the office today, hopefully no tufts of fur on the floor when I get home.

in reply to Frank

Got home from work and sat with my tabby friend on the couch for a cuddle time. Supervisor giving me evil eye from the cat post because she feels if I am home, regardless of time, it's now dinner time. It was not quite dinner time so I had a sit.

Now they've all had dinner and the kittens are filled with joy and energy and are back to the mad sprints and chasey. From the dent in my bed I'd say Supervisor spent most of her day there.

James Gunn’s new Superman movie, which draws an analogy between Israel and the villainous country of Boravia, demonstrates how Israel's idealized image in American culture has been shattered by the widespread acknowledgment of Palestinian oppression.

@arrrg I can see what you mean about the ratio, but the focus should be on actions being terrible, rather than who they’re done to. It doesn’t save anyone there to add victims anywhere else.

I’m sure you know this and I wouldn’t even speak to it, except there is a thread of thought rn among mostly young folks that if “we” (really, the more-vulnerable closer to home) just suffer enough from our own rulers, we’ll finally be moved to stop them, and it smells like accelerationism.
