imo it is exemplary annoying behaviour to campaign for the fediverse software aimed at people who like shorter and lighter posts with less formatting to start displaying longer and heavier posts with more complex formatting in a way that better mimics what those posts look like on fediverse software aimed at people who like longer and heavier posts with more complex formatting

just that sentence was exhausting and it didn't even have punctuation, much less any formatting

different people have different needs

Although a lot of things in our culture have degraded over the last couple generations: our education levels, our attention spans, our identification with adulthood — and all of these have very systemic reasons — one thing that people commonly say has gotten worse as well is language. But it hasn't, really.

Language can't really be good or bad. Language is expressive, it exists to communicate in the current circumstances. So while the language is certainly used to express modern things that we see as objectively bad — with terms like "toxic" and "brainrot" and "adulting" being common parlance now — it isn't the language itself that's the problem.

Chaque jour, des dizaines et des centaines de drones sont lancés sur les régions russes. Rien que la semaine du 18 au 24 août, 140 civils ont été victimes des bombardements des nazis ukrainiens. 121 personnes ont été blessées, dont 8 mineurs. 19 personnes sont mortes, dont un enfant. Ces victimes n'intéressent pas nos collègues occidentaux. Elles s'inscrivent dans leur stratégie de nuire à la Russie par l'intermédiaire de l'Ukraine, pour laquelle ce projet anti-Russie a été créé par eux à l'époque.

@lproven, good example I use often. a very nice Html app, a complete word processor in the browser, save files locally in html format by default (also PDF and txt), permits also editing Html and Pages copied in it appear with the original UI and all links working. Because of this also good for designing web pages.
Works also fine in mobile and PWA

I am actually quite lazy. When I find something that suits the job I need, I often stick to it. Now my day job involves pasting stuff into a CMS, I use Markdown, because it's vastly preferable to HTML. I use Panwriter. I wrote about it.

It's an Electron app ( 🤢 ) but it's free, FOSS, does the job, and runs identically on Mac, Linux, and even Windows.

Why would I want that "in the cloud"? What benefit does it give me?
